Apple Releases iTunes 7.0.1

Went to repair permissions after the update and got this error.

Windows version is now much faster. Opens a lot quicker and is quicker overall. Much less of a resource hog! I think Apple was in a rush to release iTunes for Steve's Special Event, but things seem right now.

ps: I also got "The version of iTunes is the current version" message, so I just downloaded the updated version from Apple.com

Sometimes it takes a while for it to automatically show up. I guess Apple doesn't want everyone hitting their servers at once.

I noticed that on my WinXP machine, iTunes 7.0 seemed to be much slower in transferring the library to the iPod (took me about 4.5 hours to transfer, via USB 2.0, 14,000 songs - no videos, no games, no photos). Hope this update corrects that - have you noticed if it does?

I'll have to try it when I get home

The 7.0 release was constantly giving me BSD's on Vista RC1. Whenever I started to really scroll through the cover art it would just lock up and I knew it was only a matter of seconds before I'd be seeing blue.

Oh well, at least Vista RC1 boots faster.

This is great, iTunes 7 is one of the best things that has happened to my Mac.

And now it gets better...!

W00T !!!

Does this update fix that?

If you're using a Mac, it's really easy to change the dock icon and the Front Row icon back to green. I did it, though of course I'll probably have to do it again after this update.

iTunes fullscreen videos still aren't pause-able in fullscreen (after update) without iTunes automatically quitting fullscreen.

If you bring up the about iTunes screen and when the credits begins to scroll hold the Alt key the credits change direction, as this been mentioned before?

Hehe. It's done that pretty much forever :)

I remember when in OS 9 you could drop a movie into the folder that iTunes was in and it would play the movie when you went to About iTunes...

14,000 songs?!? I imported every singlw CD in my house (that includes both my parents, my own & my sister's) and got 12,000. And all that took about 40 GB. Don't forget USB 2's top transfer speed is 480Mbits/sec (60 MBytes/s). So a little math tells us 30 GB = 30*1024 MBs = 30720 MB / 60 MB/s = 512 seconds = 8 minutes 32 sec. Remember the 480 Mbits/ sec is the theoretical max, actual throuput would be a LOT less.

Ok, I know what repairing permissions MEANS, I meant how does it affect you? Is something actually not working the way it's supposed to? Like iTunes won't shut down or freezes up or won't import music? Something like that?

I'm asking if something is actually WRONG.

Because what you've shown me is just that the permissions are DIFFERENT from the default OS X installation.

Just being DIFFERENT doesn't prove that anything's actually wrong.

Hopefully this will turn iTunes back into something useable again. I had to go back to Winamp - the playback was awful and jumpy, iTunes just randomly crashed and ate my CPU, couldn't use sound enhancer or crossfade playback.

And yes, I tried fiddling with Quicktime settings. I tried everything. Apple did release a piece of c**p - it didn't seem like they even tested it with PCs!

Yeah buy did you actually read it?

Sometimes, key system files have their permissions changed to something other than what they are supposed to be by applications and, more often, installers.

Many people, including myself do this to avoid potential problems caused by recent installs. This is especially true for those of us who seldom reboot or shut down our systems!

I already found a bug of iTunes 7.0.1 in Windows XP.

I have 2 songs showing up by search. When second song hit EOL but iTunes stop. I have to use forward to complete it.

Right. But you've also used the phrase "potential problems" whithout saying what that means.

That's all I'm asking!

Can anyone confirm that the playback skipping issue is solved by this update.
I wont be able to check till I go home in 3+ hours.

Grrr, iTunes is still crashing after the update, but now I don't get a "report error" window.
