That was rather quick, although I haven't had any issue with iTunes 7 on PPC Macs.

I hope it fixes some issues I have when burning CDs... With my v7, it just keeps spinning when checking for media until...forever  :(

What Mac? Only have USB 1.1 on it? My experience with USB2 is the same speed as the FW was.

Well, I have a 4G (with both USB and FW) and on my machine (iMac CoreDuo), there is a difference in speed transfer. Especially if you are moving (or updating) your entire library. :(

Here's hoping for the ability to copy and paste album art again.

Looks like that was one of the fixes in iTunes 7.0.1. I was able to drag & drop, as well as copy & paste several new album covers to my songs after I upgraded last night.

WTF does everyone have against older hardware.

Nobody has anything against your hardware. They're pointing out that you wrote a tirade about iTunes being "absolute crap" while you're trying to run it on an old machine that doesn't even meet the minimum system requirement for the version you're complaining about.

Your post should have been more like "Wow, I can't believe the latest version of iTunes still runs on my antique machine. Thanks Apple!"

But why would Apple release iTunes with the drivers and commands for synching a mobile phone? They could release the updated iTunes with these files along with the release of the phone right?

Keeping the rumor sites busy? :)

I still can't get the damn program to download the covers for albums. I ripped a couple cds(Beatles, more mainstream stuff) and it doesn't do a thing for my PPC iMac.

Beatles is not sold through iTunes, so no covers available from there. Copy and paste the artwork from Amazon.

For me 7.0.1 is the worst itunes release with regards to stability. I hadn't experienced any crashes or slowdown (on a quad I guess I shouldn't) with 7.0 but with 7.0.1 I get frequent crashes - during playback, getting album art. Performance alse seems slower. I guess I should have stayed with 7.0 :(

i think iTunes 7 is absolute crap. and the update fixed nothing. i cant see what it takes 25-30% of the CPU to play any MP3 of low quality. the older versions only took like 10%-15% to play a high quality MP3. this version is just really not optimized enough to use properly on anything below a 1ghz cpu . granted it has great features and all and correctly implemented then iTunes 7 will be great.

but the movies/video's hardly play at all. the video looks like a slideshow when movies are playing then the video moves normally then goes back to jumpy. i can play higher quality video in VLC compared to the video on iTunes and VLC play's it smooth compared to iTunes. in iTunes your are hardly even likely to even see 0.5 FPS of the movie that is playing.

this version of iTunes isn't fit to recommend. but it does have cool features with it once its all said and done maybe apple will set this version right. dont get me wrong i like iTunes and all but this version was just was not ready to be released yet

Are you using a G3? iTunes video requires a minimum 1GHz G4. iTunes is great on my old 600MHz G3 iBook but won't play videos. You can download them for your iPod still...

PC Version?

Anyone on the PC version? I loaded it on my PC I use as a server to store all the video/audio. 7.0 Playback was fine, now with 7.0.1 I get static/popping sounds....

Apple needs to take a step back and make iTunes work great on all machines (PC's as well as Macs).

maybe he just wants everything to be ready for the phone when it comes out. ie someone can buy a phone the day it comes out and immediately use it with his mac without having to download new software or something. They might just be trying to streamline the integration process by paving the way before the product rollout. Or maybe they are having a LOT of fun at our expense...

I disagree, both 7.0 and 7.01 are two of the coolest and most stable of iTunes yet. Everything works perfectly for me. Granted I'm on a new machine, but still even on my old G4 it works perfectly.

I think it is just for the rumor mongers! We love it though! Don't we?
And it also helps keep their share prices up based on the speculation of the iPhone! Smart move Steve!

Cover Flow Displays Wrong Album Art

I haven't seen anyone else post about this bug.

When iTunes 7.0.1 (also in 7.0) the Cover Flow view doesn't work correctly.

On just about every other song it displays the wrong album art. I mean this is ridiculous.

Also, when advancing to the next album art using the arrows of the album art viewer in the lower left-hand corner, iTunes is extremely slow.

In fact the whole app seems to have gotten a dose of rheumatism and alzheimers. Whoever programmed this must have made major changes to the iTunes architecture and guess what - it's not working correctly.

Please Apple, fix iTunes! I know you can do it! :)

Must be just your machine because I haven't noticed anything of the sort. iTunes 7 is fast, stable and works just as I would want it to, even on this ageing 1.2GHz G4 iBook.

haven't read through all the posts but one thing that did get fixed is copying album art to multiple files. previously, when i selected a number of files and tried to paste album art to multiple tracks, it wouldn't do it. now it's fixed.

coverflow is still way too slow for my tastes, though...

Don't know why some of you suffer from memory problems... both 7.0.0 and 7.0.1 only take up a maximum of 85 MB of RAM on my PC in CoverFlow mode for a 14.000+ songs library.

What's up with the copy/paste? I have the same problem at home... Hopefully the update will fix that. Pretty annoying... :(
umm, read post #194 right above yours.

Scroll through all of your covers from front to back, a few at a time, and then check your memory.

Unfortunately, that's the way with technology. When you have a really old machine, things don't work as well. Obviously, a 450 MHz or even 466 MHz machine goes back 5 or 6 years. Most computer companies wouldn't keep 3 year old machines in mind for software and game companies don't. Plenty of 1.25 GHz G4s are out of date already.

You shouldn't expect the latest software to run on your machine well.

ok fine... but how about a 1 year old g5 imac??
itunes 7 takes over 90% of that cpu and runs the fans full blast...
ive said it before, some people may not have had problems, but that doesnt mean that this version was ready... just because YOU didnt have problems doesnt mean it isn't crap... it is crap if this many people are having problems... an mp3 player shouldnt max out a g5's resources, especially when the previous version of the mp3 player worked fine... if ford put out a new car where even 10% of the finished products were lemons wouldnt you admit that it wasnt ready for prime time?
