thinks they are going to have a few buggs.....i tried to upgrade earlier....it froze now i go ad look and it says i've upgraded my songs (no i haven't) and now they wont show up on the need to upgrade part.

I had the same problem. Simply go to Store>Check for purchases. My downloads started, but some stopped with errors. Gr..

So I thought I would be able to upgrade an individual song. Turns out I can only upgrade them all or none??? This seems like a pretty poor implementation.

I vote negative.

I saw the little plus sign next to the song, and thought you could just upgrade one at a time, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Every so often I keep getting 'Failed to download' message after upgrading songs. It happens with every other tune and I'm worried that I have wasted my money. Could it be my bad internet cnnection, over wifi plus apples busy servers? Can i get these songs back?

Is anyone else getting an error "iTunes needs to close" everytime you try to open iTunes after installation? I've tried everything to fix it. I've uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime, Installed Quicktime separately then installed iTunes, etc. and it still gives me that error when I try to open iTunes.

I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop, both running Windows XP. The desktop installed it fine, the laptop is the one I'm having problems with. It was working perfectly until the iTunes 7.2 update.

Anyone else getting this?

You will be hard pressed to find many XP users here........

That's what I thought initially too. As it happens I am banned from buying anything on iTunes but to be honest I don't give a damn right now. I want my upgraded music, so that will be how it is!!:D

Why are you banned?

Apple's servers are being hammered right now. I would try later when they get the kinks out.

Keep track of what you tried to purchase and make sure you don't get charged twice (or charged for something you couldn't download).

Overspending slightly. Having said that I'm 19 this year and right now I bank online, have plenty to see me through until my next pay is due and don't want my purchases to be ruled with an iron fist.

What would happen if you removed the purchased songs from your library that you didn't want to upgrade (back them up elsewhere) and then ran the upgrade. It should only see the songs remaining in the library.
I don't think it goes by purchase history because I'm at work and I don't have my full library here and it doesn't list any music that isn't actually on this machine.

Cost

I upgraded - I'm guessing lots of people are as I'm getting some errors downloading (but I can restart them).

I had 170 songs that were upgradeable. Cost: $39.00. Not bad considering that 170 @ $1.20 would have been $204.

AAC was already a superior codec (as I wait for blasts from the MP3 crowd) - but the 256k bit rate sounds even better.

I'm very glad you don't have to pay .30 per song to upgrade a whole album. 30% of the album price preserves the "bulk discount" you got by buying the whole album in the first place.

I hope they add the feature to upgrade just SOME of your music, but for now, not much that I have is upgradable anyway. 37 songs--I'll pay $10.50 for that, to support the principle of no DRM. (And I guess I could just remove certain songs from my library so they don't upgrade, and then put them back.)

I notice that NO free songs are listed for upgrade. That's good--I wouldn't want to pay .30 for those.

I also notice that this does not seem to use your Cart. It just says "Buy" rather than Add to Cart or something.

Anyway, it's all very clear and organized, with the + symbols etc.

This is what the error looks like when I try opening iTunes.

Hopefully there are some XP users on here.
As of now, I luckily found a site that had the iTunes 7.1 setup file still on it, so I'm downgrading back to that for now.

Yes, you can...

As folks have mentioned go to store and then check downloads.
You then have a download item show up on the left under music that spins while a download is under way.

You can click on it to see the outstanding ones remaining. I had to click resume about 10 times since the servers are being assaulted right now.
I'm on the last song of my second album finally. But it's not done yet.
But soon, it will be. :)

If you have a code for a free tune, does it work for either a DRM tune or a more-expensive DRM-free tune?

I don't have any unused codes at the moment, so I can't check this myself. Just curious.

It's kinda interesting seeing the iTunes plus section being built through out the day, there's top albums and top songs now too.

I'm getting a lot of these errors, in fact theres another one now:mad:

Am I going to be ok without having to buy these tunes again? I'm beginning to regret this completely.

It's happening with all my songs by The Bees mostly.

I did this for music freedom, so I can do what I like with it in the years to come.

If i purchase tracks without DRM then when i get my new iMac will i be able to transfer those songs to the new iMac and play them??? I dont quite get this business.

iTunes Store is very busy!

9 of my songs were eligible for upgrade, 6 downloaded so far (very slowly), 3 timeout errors. Keep retrying and it works...

Yes, but if you autorized both computers you would be able to play the DRMed ones also.

It's ok for Errors

iTunes tracks your purchases and will retry later (or immediately after an iTunes restart). Lots of people (including myself) are trying to do mass upgrades to their libraries - so I would say expect some slowness.

Yep their servers are getting slammed. The downloads started out fast but now they are very slow. And mass time outs.

Where is My "Dark Side of The Moon"?

I have the DRM version of "The Dark Side of The Moon", but it doesn't appears on the "Upgrade My Library". Anyone having the same problen?

I like how the upgrade works. It list all your music and gives you a total price to upgrade it. Mine was around $11 bucks. I was disappointed how little music was upgradable. I wish everything could be upgraded.

I like how I can include my music with iMovie without the restrictions.
