I hope it fixes the problem where iTunes asks permission to accept incoming connections on launch. If not, I will be

It didn't

Yeah wtf is up with that ****? I thought it was just me. Thank god it isn't just me who is getting that firewall issue.

Why is this >100MB. Seriously, Apple really needs to take a leaf from Microsoft's book and implement an updating system that only updates the actual components that have changed rather than the whole application.

(I know this may not be a big deal to most people, but it is to me as my uni only allows 1GB/day - completely cutting off if you go over the limit - it really helps to save every last byte that comes through my system, especially when I go through a lot of required webpages for API documentation and the like)

I'll take better compatibility over 100mb updates anyday. Most users don't have this issue.

For everyone saying I hope this fixes..., especially for the older issues that haven't been resolved over multiple update cycles...

Have you reported the issue to Apple?

http://www.apple.com/feedback/

You can't expect them to know about every little bug. Some can be isolated. I haven't experience any of the playlist bugs, for example. The only way they can fix it is if they know about it. The more people who report it, the more likely and sooner it will be looked at.

Can't see in the release notes - any 4.0ers able to see if this version of iTunes respects folder structures?

Yes it does! Pretty happy about that... Still refuses to perform a backup, at least with Beta 1... And then there is this "File Sharing" thing, not sure exactly what it does... Can't find anything in the help system either...

I've learnt this trick which did for me: trash the iTunes app from Aplications folder, download the iTunes from Apple website, and install it again. ;)

PS: Just the iTunes application from APPLICATIONS folder, NOT the "iTunes music" folder, the one containing the music and stuff. That shall stay!

I am a little disappointed that this update did not fix the extremely slow sync with the iPad.

You need the SDK to perform backups of iPods/iPhones running 4.0 beta.

Make sure you're using Beta 2 of the SDK.

I know myself (and many others) have tried the feedback route multiple times. The smart playlist thing doesn't really fall into "every little bug" since it's a huge functionality issue. It's not like smart playlists are an obscure entity, since "recently added" and "top 25" are there by default etc. Like I said this has been around since 3.0 and it's usually the first question asked (other than "will this ruin jailbreak) when itunes is updated.

Trying it now. It's gonna take a long time to delete.

EDIT: YAY it worked!!!

It looks like this might fix the ringtones 128 AAC bug. I submitted a bug report so I am hoping this fixes it. :D

Gotcha. ;) I know what you mean. But so many times when new software updates are out, I see so many "I hope it fixed this" posts, and I always wonder if those people do something about it or just sit there and expect it to magically discover itself at Apple. So, figured I'd point people who don't do something or know how to do something, in the right direction. :)

That pesky little FW is just bag of hurt... Try deleting FW preference files after you've removed all the apps from the FW list. After some tinkering it worked for me and all my apps work fine with FW.

I hate the lyrics bug. hope it is fixed.

my genius data could not be sent to apple and iTunes freezes, whole puter goes mad...:mad::mad::mad:

also, converting to 128kbps took AGES. what's up with that?!?!?!?

is it only me or has anyone a bug that comes when your ipod finishes syncing and says that it is safe to remove but the little wheel that turns when syncing keeps turning and turning and if you want to eject the ipod it says it is still syncing....:confused::confused::confused: :(:(:(

also, why does it happen that everytime i sync my ipod since the 9.1 it wants to gather info about non stop continuous play and it takes extra time to sync? what's that about!??!?!?!?!

wow, that's a lot of bugs.

help!!!!!

No, it's not only you. I'm having the same issue with my iPhone3G... :/

hey Apple guess what! Genius is still making itunes to freeze!!! my issue was not fixed at all!!!

Two things I am happy with 9.1.1:

Now you can use delete key for going one page back and shift+delete for one page ahead. (I am nor sure if the previous version could do that, but I am sure that I missed it once.) iTunes resembles more and more a good browser.

No more error messages when downloading more than twenty (or so) app updates. Until this version I got always an error and it stopped downloading, I had to download each app update manually. Now tried with 50 updates: Okili dokili.

I can confirm that the LYRICS bug on the on the fly 128 bit conversion is FIXED! It now properly displays lyrics on your device after the conversion for songs that have embedded lyrics! This effectively doubles my capacity with little audio degradation.

However, it does take FOREVER to sync the first time. I have about 5,000 songs on my iPhone now, and it took 12 HOURS to convert them and sync!

Well, now that the lyrics work with the 128 kbps on-the-fly conversion, I'm having a different more significant problem. Everytime I sync my iPhone, it deletes everything and resyncs. I have 25 GB of music and it literally takes 12 HOURS to resync everything (while converting to 128 kbps). Obviously unacceptable!

Man, I KNEW this was too good to be true. :( How could this not have been caught during Beta testing? It always takes Apple about 3 tries to get a new feature working completely right!

I haven't tried yet, but does this ONLY happen if the 128 kbps conversion is checked? If anyone having this problem with normal music sync (i.e. without this feature checked)?

I used to have a similar problem when this feature was only available for iPod shuffles. Some of my purchased songs always got deleted and resynced after a lengthy 128kbps conversion. It was very annoying. Now, I am afraid to update iTunes. I'd rather live without lyrics than hit this bug again. I'll wait to see if this is a widespread bug.
