Dammit, I wanted Pages '11 with a notetaking mode tomorrow...somehow I don't think that's going to happen.

Edit: Apparently Apple released an update to iWork '08 right before '09, so maybe there is hope for tomorrow.

You never know... They may have had it ready for some time and are just waiting on the App Store to release it.

There was a rumor to that effect...was going to come out along with iLife, and they decided to keep it for the App store.

should I bother updating? I'm hoping to get iWorks 11 tomorrow through the MacStore :)

I've used NeoOffice for years. Any reason to change?

Download the free trial and see for yourself ... I was using NeoOffice for too long. NeoOffice is nice, but still doesn't feel like a true native Apple Product. Might be just my personal preference, but I prefer iWorks - everything looks and feels just better, smoother, prettier.

The trolls on this site get worse and worse....

Anyways... do you think this mean my hopes for iWork '11 are over? It seems rather odd of Apple to update an app close to the expected release of a new version.

So we got choice from:
- iWork
- OpenOffice
- NeoOffice
- LibreOffice
- Microsoft Office

Anyone noticing that there are four things for lying around the office but only one works? (Pun intended)

Am loving Office '11 for Mac, but would welcome being able to just buy keynote, I'm sorry, pages and numbers, I gave you 2 years of my time, you didn't do it for me...

I use pages most days, it is easy to make very professional looking work.
I get asked all the time who does our design work for us.
I don’t know why people still use office, every document comes out looking like it was produced by the accounts department, with Pages documents come out looking like they were produced by the art department.

This is a flyer i made in about 15min using pages for the work christmas party

**yawn**

they still make iWork.???

What a complete and utter waste of time...

I use Pages and Numbers every single day at work and home. My GF uses iWork on her iPad all day. We are both health care providers and I see iWork being used in the professional world so much more now. Everyone either has a MacBook or an iPad at the hospital. All of our teaching presentations are made using Keynote. iWork is alive and well.

agreed!

also, i know im beating a dead horse buttttt....... iweb update?????????

I think there was a very good reason why there was no iWeb update when the new iLife came out. I think Apple stopped development on that version and have created a new, built from the ground up HTML5 standards version of iWeb. But either through internal timescales or the gerneral lack of browser support for some of the new HTML5 standards, Apple decided to pull it from the iLife lineup until HTML5 becomes more mature and IE catches up.

This would explain why there wasn't even a piecemeal update. Apple have been banging on about HTML5 being the future and we should ditch Flash, iWeb creates nasty code and CSS control is poor, not a glowing advert of their beliefs, and it was never going to be fixed. So I predict a new amazing application with the iWeb name next year, and no update to the current version of iWeb until then.

iWork is so 90s!

Increasingly, I have been writing, making spreadsheets, and producing presentations using Google Documents. While I haven't abandon Microsoft Office entirely, I haven't touch it in about a month. The cloud is where it is at! iWork is competing with the past. Office and iWork has no place in the future unless it migrates to the cloud.

Beautiful hardware and elegant software in the cloud is where it's at!

But Cinch, are you able to make such a beautiful flyer as dtpearson made (see a few posts above) in the cloudy heaven you describe?

My theory is that the App Store will just be the 09 versions. I don't imagine any big changes to the suite tomorrow.

Apple seem to update the icon for Keynote every time a major new release comes out ("Q4 20**) and look what we have in the updated Keynote Remote app:

Well spotted! That is very interesting indeed. Yes, why would they bother if no update were coming?

And when your internet drops out... you're up ****** creek!

Did you miss the article when it mentioned iWork.com?

but of course...Google Documents has Drawing which works really well for 95% of us. no need for adobe illustrator or the like.

don't get me wrong Google Docs is not quite as sophisticated as Office, but it is almost there. iWork is quaint and paying for it is just unsavvy and ridiculous!

Having say all this, I did tried iWork for a month, and it didn't impress me. Being able to save and access my files anywhere seamlessly is very important to me. But to all his or her own, I suppose.

Imagine Office sales plummeting and MSFT stock likewise! I can dream can't I?

Next up, moving all my photos to Flickr or Picasa. Flickr is limited in scope. I have to check Picasa out. I think iPhoto is also going the way of the dodo bird.

Have to read my post? In case you haven't, here is an excerpt (with syntax edit): Office and iWork have no place in the future unless they migrate to the cloud.

I actually thought long and hard about this issue (longer and deeper than you care to know - I study energy and how it create and shape our complex society). Of course you can save your work onto your hard drive if you want to.

I don't see this as issue at least not in the near future. When was the last time your internet went out? If it happened to you, it didn't last long.

I would love to see Numbers extended with Octave 3.2/3.3, R and Maxima, not to mention hooks for MathCad/Mathematica.

I would love to see Pages be extended to offer Services with TeXLive 2010.
