Everything you said of Google Docs is correct. I don't know about iWork and iWork.com. Would someone help MrSmith out, please?

The day of buying a word processor or a spreadsheet app is over! It only took 25 plus years.:(

You can repeat that mantra in this forum over and over again but it won't become true. Online apps are only interesting for a small number of users. The future might be more diversified.

 Dude... YOU were the one who said you work in the cloud, so YOU rely on being connected... YOU were talking about productivity apps in the cloud, and suggested everyone was almost always connected. I simply pointed out situations where connection is unavailable.

Better still... Now you say that being dependent upon being connected is a truly hellish experience. Thank you. You have just defeated your own argument that cloud software is the only way to go. Truly magnificent!

I think the best solution to work in the cloud is using dropbox:
- You have everything local using your local apps
- Everything is automatically synced to all of your machines
- Automatic backup of everything

It no longer matters to me which of my machines I'm using - I always have the latest version of all my documents. If I am some place where I have no internet, I can still work with my files and once I'm connected again, it automatically syncs back to the cloud and all my other machines. This way I have the best of both worlds. If I am on a machine that does not has dropbox (e.g. at a friends house) I can still access everything through the web interface. The only thing I wish they would have is a 'network drive' with my stuff similar to iDisk (but faster and functioning). My whole digital life is in the meantime on dropbox - and it is fast (I can modify a file on my Laptop and by the time I walked to my desktop the update is already there). I can even use it cross platform.

Trouble is that the new version of Pages doesn't actually work with iWork

I was excited for this update. Improvements? Nothing but bloody limitations!

The answer to this was:

Do not Update using the Software Update tool for iWork...there is a problem...
Go the Apple Support Page and download from there
(http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1097)
That works

I received that same error message until I downloaded it directly from the link provided. Works great now! Also, don't know if this was mentioned already or known, but if you go to iWorks.com on your iPhone and open a document that you have uploaded, it will give you the option to open it [as a PDF] in iBooks as well.

Those days might be over for you and a few others out there.

I spend way too much time in airplanes and other places without reliable network - 100% cloud is not an option until I can have 100% fast reliable cheap internet everywhere (some airlines started to offer inflight internet, but for prices where I could buy every half our iWorks)

Good for those who are always in places where they are 'connected' - unfortunately I'm not one of those.

It still amazes me how everybody sees things ONLY from their point of view and thinks the whole world is the same and does not even understand that there are different people with different needs ... sad.

Does it use really use 2gb of ram??? I did not know that. Let me open it up and check.

Omg I'm shocked, I opened it up and it's using 10.66Mb. Maybe if I add texts to it. 20 pages and 12,012 words and it only when up to 16.6Mb. I'm so confused.

On a serious note, it's funny how people believe their lies and exaggerations. I mean, come on.

Look at the VM too. It's over a gig. Promise. At least on my end.

EDIT: I just ran the update, since I don't use it anymore, and it looks like they've fixed their memory issue. It's still crazily slow on startup, so I'll still pass, but nice to see the improvement.

Dumb question: Will you be able to show a presentation on a PC with iWork.com? It's unclear from the description. (without exporting to ppt)
