I was just informed via live chat on the apple store site that even upgrades to logic 7 purchased on or after Aug 1 (not just the full version) will qualify for a free upgrade to 8.
Woot! Good news. I wonder what the hold up is. Looks like we have to wait til Sep 26.

I have just been to Regent St. and they have loads in stock there (Full versions only, the upgrades from Pro7 have sold out). The guy I spoke to needed an upgrade version and he had ordered it from the UK apple store this morning with delivery expected tomorrow. heres the link...

After buying Logic Platinum 5 a few years ago I've actually been using Logic Express to save some money. If I were to upgrade to Logic 8 how would that process work? Would I need to reinstall Logic 5 and insert the XSkey and then install Logic 8?

Oh, and the fact they they are STILL allowing Logic 5 users to upgrade to the latest version is amazing. I bought it 4 years ago!

You don't need to re-install Logic 5 to upgrade to 8, you just need to have the XSkey plugged in and it should work fine. And yes it is really good that you can upgrade from Logic Platinum 5, especially as it was produced by emagic back then and not Apple!

Wow, talk about a hater. Has it occured to you that it is YOU who is selfish? I have paid good money, along with others, and supported Apple financially through our purchases over the years. That's what allowed Apple to survive and flourish - the support of people willing to pay for quality, not the cheapskates and the thieves.

WTF is a hater? You're the one that hates that other people can now get LogicPro for less than YOU paid for it. And so you are calling me a thief now? Did I say I have Logic in ANY form? Well, I don't. So stuff that in your pipe and smoke it. Just because you can't stand other people paying less than you for something doesn't make those people thieves. It makes you... well, I can't say on here what it makes you.

Supporting Apple? I don't care about companies. I supported the Amiga through thick and thin and Commodore screwed it all up. I sure as heck don't support M$. They really are thieves. I'm giving the Apple platform a chance now, but people like you make me think I should go to Linux instead as they don't get all upset when someone gets a deal on something when they WILLINGLY paid full price years earlier.

You got what you paid for and it's what you expected to pay. So why are YOU whining about it? You can't just let the rest of us be happy about getting a good deal (not all of us are money making professional musicans, but some of us hobbyists would like better tools), but rather have to whine and cry because Apple won't give you all your money back. Boo hoo.

As for dongles, they punish legitimate users. Do you seriously think pirates can't easily bypass them? And then their versions are dongle free why you have to carry yours around with you and use up a USB port or whatever. THAT is why I don't like dongles.

How can Apple be a thief if they always seem to deliver more value than I pay for? One happy experience after another.:apple:

UK Edu Pricing

Has anybody got a link to the UK educational pricing?

I'm pretty sure I saw someone post £118 somewhere but my eyes are tired so I've probably scanned over it several times already trying to verify.

After a 7 studying hiatus (read: work) I start a course at Uni in a few weeks so am sitting on my hands (and, more importantly, my debit card lol) until I start and become eligible for a product and pricing scheme that, had you told me 2 days ago, I would've laughed in your face and called you insane for. :)

Starting to breathe easier.....

Hey, this is my first post .
Well if it makes You feel any better Passerby1234, I just bought Logic 7.2 (used ) on E-bay,and it arrives tomorrow! After months of planning to get Logic, and get it for as little as possible(money ain't free), I end up "losing money" in the end! Did manage to get to sleep eventually though, and woke up thinking of how great Logic is turning out to be anyways----sure is a lot cheaper than all the money I have spent on outboard gear in the past .Sooo, know where your coming from---relax,take a deep breathe and make some music----and those ranting on Passerby, chill out you angry haters

Sure:
- Go to http://store.apple.com/Catalog/uk/Images/routingpage.html
- If you're on your uni network, click the link that says: "Apple Store for Higher Education". You should get the proper prices for higher education (£118.68 for the full version).
- If not on your uni's network, call them on 0800 039 1010 and specifically ask for the "higher education" price. If you just ask for the "education" price, you'll get charged £289.05.

In either case, you will need your uni email address.

That's brilliant, thanks very much :)

As I say I don't start for another few weeks, but as soon as I get a .ac.uk suffixed email account, I'm logging onto the HE Store from campus and this baby's mine :D

Just spoken to the Apple Store. US customers can upgrade from Logic Express 7 to Logic Studio 8 but UK customers can't.

Nice!

I was in The Regent St Apple Store yesterday and all the upgrades they had left were the upgrades from Logic Express 7 to Studio 8 (at £199-all Pro 7 ->Pro 8 (£129)had gone already) so the guy you spoke to was just plain wrong. They tried to sell me one until I realised it was more ££s than it should be....

Logic edu pricing

It would reject the upgrade. Nope, no difference, other than not being able to upgrade.

Anyone know where this is documented? I can't seem to find it. I have 7 edu and will pay the higher price if I have too but I can't find on Apple's site where it says I don't qualify for the $199 upgrade.

Exactly what I've just done :D:D logic studio 8 for £118!!!
that's amazing.. hopefully will be here on monday :)

Also I have to say that if it had been £600 like before or whatever the old higher ed price used to be I probably would have pirated it.
so apple are making more money (from me atleast) by selling it at such a great price.

I have seen a number of posts on different forums from people who tried to use the upgrade on an EDU copy. It gave an error and refused to install. Apple says no EDU upgrades, and this time they mean it.

Something to consider for those buying EDU versions now. Save now, pay later. It still might be worth doing it, just make sure you think ahead and do the math.

Bummer. I called Apple and the new edu price I was quoted was $449. I might as well just pay for the full version for the cheaper future upgrades.
It still a lot of bang for the buck just not the good old half price for the edu version.

Does anybody have any thoughts on the new version of the software itself
especially the UI?

Not that i don't enjoy reading endless posts about upgrades and
complaints about the new lowered price.

if you pay the education price for the studio
does anybody know if you actually get an edu version or is it now the full thing just at a better price?

It's the full version, but you are not permitted to upgrade once Logic Studio 2 comes out; you'll have to buy the full product instead (or, if you're still on a University course, by the full product on an educational licence again, rather than a straight upgrade). :)

Academic pricing is $149. That's the cost of a few Garageband jam packs and QT pro. I'll just get Logic Studio that comes with everything. I'm going to have to stock up on software before I graduate.

Wait.. academic pricing for what? Logic Studio? I have that at $449.. standard 10% off.

If you're getting Logic Studio for $149.. plllleeeeez post a link. :)

ah ok thanks for the info, that's not too bad then (especially if its this cheap again next time round :))

I'm not in the US so i can't confirm but he's probably talking about a higher eduction discount

No, some schools have better pricing than others. I remember purchasing Logic Pro 7 educational through my college bookstore for $299, not $499 like others purchased.

And can somebody check to see if the educational version is actually educational this time? I don't think Apple would only give a $50 discount and make students buy another full version for the next upgrade. Certain Apple software have educational discounts (OSX, iLife, etc.) and are the exactly the same as the retail version (right?).
