I'm having some sleep issues with 10.5.7! If anyone has this same problem or can help, check out the thread over here!

I have been having sleep issue since 10.5.2, where my desktop would go to sleep but not wakeup, and I would have to force a reboot via the power button. I have spent a lot of time scouring the Internet looking for solutions, only to discover that sleep issue with Mac are not uncommon, especially on laptops. Now I just leave the thing on 24/7, which I HATE to do, but have am forced to.

I hate to be a downer and I hope you can find a solution to your problems. If you do consider yourself blessed, because there are many, many of us who can't make it work right.

That's right - impatience over logic

Logic? By who's account? I updated via Software Update (always have, since the far away days of my Tangerine iMac) and have never had ANY of the problems some have had from that method, yet I'm not here claiming any moral advantage just 'cause it has worked for me. I mean, c'mon - let's not be silly; there is no ONE perfect way to do this, despite what you might think. What there is is one perfect way for YOU to do this.

That said, I went ahead and updated my old 12" PowerBook this morning, (via Software Update) and it all went well. It downloaded a combo-updater version (as I'd skipped a couple of 5.x's) and all runs fairly smooth, although an issue with it connecting to my network persists where it won't connect automatically, and sometimes tells me my password is invalid when trying to connect manually, only to connect (using the same password) on the next manual attempt. That little issue's been around for me since going from 10.4 to 10.5.

Ha, I'm just being dense. Time to clear my cache I think so the new light-bulb icon shows up :D

EDIT: Worked perfectly!

are you using a unibody? just curious since compared to mine theres a huge difference in the pref pane of energy saver.

if you are using a unibody and probably cloned from a non-unibody you might have to do a archive/install or reinstall with migration assistant.

Tested the update on a clone test drive...so far alright..just another reminder that i need to upgrade my apps on this system lol (office 04 and cs2) :p

I had done the tweek in the system to allow the 4-finger gestures on the original 2008 macbook pro with multitouch, after installing last night's update, i'm realizing that it has reverted back to normal, and i no longer have the 4-finger swipes. LAME

Wait, I want to get this straight.

You edit or replace a system kext in order to activate officially unsupported hardware usage for your machine. It gets overwritten during a OS level update and you're calling this lame?

Reading your post, lame is a word that comes to mind, but losing 4 finger swipes (which is easy to get back) isn't what, or more specifically to whom I'm applying the label.

The exact same thing happened to me on my iMac. I did restart and the machine did start up and boot into 10.5.7, but I have to say that I'm a little nervous about the update because I had to restart. Also, after I restarted, the computer chimed once, went to the grey screen with the apple, and then started up a second time. I may try the combo update just to be sure...

(quoting myself for context)

I downloaded the combo and installed it even though the computer was reporting that 10.5.7 had already installed. The computer has been running much more smoothly since. Honestly, this is the first time I've ever had a problem with a SU, but at least now things are running fine and dandy.

I'm also still lacking thepower management settings from the top bar after updating my MBA Rev B. from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 any suggestions?

Ditto for me but it was as simple as replacing the ktext file again. You can find the modified file in this thread a few posts down.

Hey @rosenkrieger how have you managed that? What are your settings
in the sharing setup ? Internet sharing activated ? I cannot because there "are no ports available over which to share your connection".

Are you german i guess so... wäre dankbar für tips

TBH, I think most of the people here having issues with the update is their own doing. Several people including myself have installed the update on both my MBA and iMac 24" with Safari 4 and the update is top notch, not a hitch, not a problem, not a snag.
I think the ones complaining need to own up to what haxies or dock changes or secret stuff they have done to their Macs and even the ones not even using Macs.

I have no hacks/dock changes or anything like that and I had a small issue with the update. I downloaded the standalone updater from the apple site (software update time kept going up and up). When I restarted, it got caught in the blue screen loop. I had to hard restart. Once I did, it restarted twice then came up.

So far seems to be fine although permissions are all screwy in disk utility. It looks like the update took although havent noticed any difference.

So yes..people with plain ol regular macs are having trouble too.

Unibody MacBook updated with the delta update downloaded manually. Apart from the crippled power menu bar item, no issues whatsoever.

haven't noticed anything different on my penryn mbp, although I think itunes might be loading faster than it used to, but maybe I'm just being crazy and trying to attribute things to the new update just so i can justify the time i wasted waiting for it to download through software updater

Even after installing the Combo-Update no power management settings available in the top bar for my MBA Rev B.

how did you get this to work over edge?

Yeah!

I waited for this and with 10.5.7 I finally was able to hook up the iPhone via Bluetooth with my MacBook

I didnt know tethering worked over edge. Or is it not allowed on at&t?

No problems DL mine through the software update under :apple:. I decided to go that route rather than through apple.com because I assumed the computer would know which particular size update I'd need. It took about 30 minutes and installed fine after it rebooted twice. Haven't had a chance to really use the computer much since then so I can't comment yet on whether the update itself causes any problems. My fingers are crossed. I've just had my iMac since January (missed the updated iMac by a couple months:() but I've never had a problem with any of the software updates.

As a side note, and not to hijack the thread with a new topic, I installed 4 gb of ram (Crucial-2X2) last night to max my iMac out and was surprised at how easy (and cheap!!) it was. Can I officially call myself a computer geek now?!

Updated my MBP using the standard 'Software Update'. After the update and reboot, I recevied this on the screen.

Now the machine will try to boot up, then shuts down.
It gets as far as the 'Apple' and the spinner, then shuts down.
Thx :)

Had the same message on my PPC G5 before the first restart, but as shown in the dialog the only choice was to "Restart"...so I clicked it. Computer auto-rebooted itself twice, and the second time stayed on the Apple-spinner screen for a looooooooooooooong time but eventually made it to the Desktop. About This Mac tells me I'm in 10.5.7, and everything seems OK so far...

Combo Update Installed without problems on 5 Macs

I used the combo update to update 5 macs. All installs took patience, but all went well and machines are operating well.

Mac Pro 2.8Ghz eightcore, 2 c2d macbooks, 2 c2d iMacs.

I reinstalled OSX and then updated to 10.5.7. I then restored my time machine backup with migration assistant which was made in 10.5.6. Do I need to reinstall the 10.5.7 update?

My install went smoothly but permissions still need work

Hi,
My install (used combo download) went smoothly but permissions still need work as the long list of permissions that needed repairing that showed up after the 10.5.6 update is still there:eek:. I thought they would have fixed that....

I downloaded the combo update (because I had a few small issues that came in with 10.5.5. Nothing major - just annoying). The install paused on "running install script" for about 10 minutes which made me a little uneasy. After it finished, my MBP rebooted twice and came right up. It seemed sluggish at first, but then I noticed that spotlight was rebuilding the index, and the hard drive was churning away (still updateing some files???). Once that finished, it went back to normal. I then installed Safari beta 2 from SU, it rebooted once and came right back up. No problems at all. I ALWAYS disconnect all external devices when I update the OS so I reconnected my external stuff one at a time with no problems (FW and USB hard drive, printer, USB hub, ipod, iphone, webcam, flash drives, etc.). End result is that the minor problems I had from a prior update are all fixed. Mail seems faster, Itunes seems quicker, most all apps load faster, QT movies quality is MUCH better and not jerky like it was on 10.5.6. I had reported a few bugs in Safari beta 1, and they are fixed too. I've used it all day and covered everything I use and I'm happy with the update.
