Makes me wonder if all these issues people are having may be linked to not repairing permissions on a regular basis.

Bluetooth or wifi? I've been tethering my EDGE iPhone to my MBP over 802.11 for some time now.

I have the iphone 3.0 beta 5 and I have been trying to tether it either via usb or over bluetooth but I cannot get it to work. How do you tether over 802.11/wifi?
If you already have wifi accessible..what is the point of tethering?
Also is it possible that tethering was possible on edge cuz his phone was probably jailbroken to work with tmobile?

Who the heck repairs permissions regularly? That's unnecessary. Apple designed Mac OS X so that you don't have to do maintenance on it. People are way too paranoid. I've had zero problems with OS X since 10.5.2 and I've got a custom Dock, and custom Extras.rsrc and Extras2.rsrc files as well. Everything's still running as smooth as ever. The only real problem I've been having in 10.5.6 is every once in a while, Time Machine will give me an error, but it works fine most of the time.

Then why is it included in Disk Utility? Granted its not like the panther/ tiger days but I still check from time to time. My Dad's system ( 10.5.6 shipped with the system ) had borked permissions , he repaired them and the install went smooth.

Has this update messed up anyone else's mail.app? I had both a MobileMe and my school's email set up with Mail, but when I restarted it only had the Mobile Me account with no signs of my school's account. After reentering all the information, the school account worked again but every time I quit the application it completely deletes the whole school account. It just seems to remember the Mobile Me account.

Anyone else have this problem?

Messed up my Mail in the exact same way. I tried overwriting the .plist with an older one from time machine, but no luck. Has anyone found a solution yet?

What is there to understand? Situation: iPhone has data access, there is no wifi. Use iPhone to do NAT/act as a wireless router. MBP picks up a wifi signal that can be used to reach teh intarwebs.

As far as I know, all tethering apps and methods require a jailbroken iPhone. I use PDAnet.

so far so god...but

Installation went smoothly. Everything seems to work the way they should except the battery/power management update won't show up on the drop down menu. If anyone can let me know how I can fix this please enlighten me.

fyi. I repaired permissions before and after the update. I downloaded the update directly from Software Update.

1. Install the Developer Tools
2. Open Quartz Debug
3. Open the Beam Sync tools
4. Click on "Force Beam Sync"
5. Force Quit Quartz Debug
6. Enjoy no tearing.

Note: You must force quit Quartz Debug for the setting to stick because Quartz Debug is set-up to revert to default upon quit... that in unless you force it to Quit.

Does this have any adverse effects on the MBP??
Do I need to keep Xcode installed after completing steps 1-5? or can I uninstall?
Is the "tearing" issue the same as the slight flicker when scrolling??

So this morning, I quit the Mail app and restarted it to see what would happen. Again, the Mail app is acting as if it is brand new, with no registered email accounts. WTH is going on?:confused:
Thankfully I had no problems with the Mail app...

Did anyone notice that now iChat displays idle friends using a yellow color status button. Wasn't that red earlier?
It's been green: available, yellow: idle, red: away, for some time.

Overall, so far so good - here's hoping bugs don't pop up later

did everyone else get the battery profile options with the update?
Mine is the exact same as before (unibody macbook 2.0) even with the 10.5.7:confused:

I think why most have problems is because of all the crap most users download. A program to do this, a program to do that. All these misc torrents, and applications that you probably didn't need anyway. Just look at versiontracker.com or macupdate.com to see all the crap that comes out everyday. mostly apps that just complicate the computing experience. SOLUTION.....
Stop downloading and installing stuff just because you have a large hard drive. It is quite simple really. Keep a clean system and you won't have problems!

Just DLd 10.5.7 via SU without fuss.

No apparent operational issues so far.

Only weird quirk is that on reboot it actually launched OS X Setup Assistant app in a small window on my desktop, playing the Leopard 'nebula' movie and then prompting another setup. I just quit it.

Oh and despite running SU several times afterwards, no Safari update appeared so downloading via Apple site.

Well after a day, I have realised that the 5.7 update has screwed the fans on my Radeon 2600. They have been running at full speed since the installation. Not a happy bunny, this card has already been replaced once.

Gotta say, I think most people's perception that things are slower or faster are a placebo thing but video is running incredibly better on my e08 MBP. No 1080p stutter and much less CPU usage even when running two or more HD vids.

Mine wasn't updated either but I must say my macbook pro is running snappier than before. No one seems to know why it doesn't show up for some.

I used the Currency Converter app as well but I am not sure what you mean?

I had a problem after installing Safari 4 beta: the Currency Converter was not converting to the correct amount. Then I found out over here that a few of us had the same issue, and someone pointed out that it was a minor coding bug which mismatch the rows/lines/currencies for the app.

Anyone else missing Software Update after install? :(

Mine is fine.
