My wifi connection has been absolutely terrible the last week or so. When there's a constant connection (e.g. downloading or playing an online game), it's fine. But when browsing off and on, it'll drop the AirPort connection every ~15 minutes. I'm really hoping this update fixes it.

I bet there are lots of people preparing to comment "What's Apple going to do next? It's their last chance of getting Leopard fixed because after 10.5.9 they run out of numbers!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!?!!???!?!?!?"

Seriously, I'm joking.

Last update for Leopard before Snow Leopard is released, yes, but there will likely be 10.5.9 and maybe even 10.5.10 bug/security fixes over the next year.

Didn't see that one coming. So this is it for Leopard...the last major update before its successor. It'll be security updates from here on out.

Keep in mind that Leopard is the last version that will run on a PPC. Apple may continue to give PPC users more point-point upgrades than Tiger has received, due to the fact that some PPC Macs still aren't that old and may still be capable of additional features.

Apple's summary says this is what's changed:
  • Upgrades Safari to version 4.0.2.
  • Improves the accuracy of full history search in Safari 4.
  • Resolves an issue in which certain resolutions might not appear in the Display pane in System Preferences.
  • Dragging an Aperture image into Automator now invokes an Aperture action instead of incorrectly invoking an iPhoto action.
  • Resolves an issue that could prevent importing of large photo and movie files from digital cameras.
  • Improves overall Bluetooth reliability with external devices, USB webcams and printers.
  • Addresses an issue that could cause extended startup times.
  • Improves iCal reliability with MobileMe Sync and CalDav.
  • Addresses data reliability issues with iDisk and MobileMe.
  • Improves overall reliability with AFP.
  • Improves overall reliability with Managed Client.
  • Improves compatibility and reliability for joining AirPort networks.
  • Improves Sync Service reliability.
  • Includes additional RAW image support for several third-party cameras.
  • Improves compatibility with some external USB hard drives.
  • Includes latest security fixes.

I agree. If Apple is not supporting PPC with SL, there will be more security updates for 10.5. They won't just drop it completely.

No one is saying that they'll stop security updates for 10.5, they're just saying they will stop the 10.5.x updates. Although, Leopard might be different because 10.6 is dropping PPC support.

By the way, I'm still patiently waiting for Apple to fix the "Hide" option for Mail when it's set to open upon logging in. It's really annoying that the Mail window is displayed every time I log into my account... I just want it to hide!!!

Awesome. I'll fire up my MBP tomorrow night when it arrives (shipped yesterday) to see if it has this update for .7. Either way, it'll be nice to have the latest and best on it fresh out of the blocks.

Huh, Leopard? People still use that!?

I don't remember the last time I booted into Leopard. The current Snow Leopard release might as well be the GM.

Time to read the package installer for this update.

I'm sure it's a major yawnfest for everyone else. Also thanks Doctor Q for that little cut from Apple's summary.

Sadly, if it isn't fixed yet it might be time to get your wallets out and pray it is in Snow Leopard.

PowerPC point updates sound very interesting.

hope the bluetooth fixes make it so waking my mini with a BT device no longer causes the system to lock up...

I have that sometimes too, the BT icon does not respond to anything than (touchpad end laptop keyboard still functioning fine than) and it wont shut down anymore, that takes forever. Hope this helps for that.

Yeah. That Bluetooth icon issue was really making me angry.

Also, as another poster said, the iDisk icon is now Blue, not that pinkish color. Looks a lot better.

I've also had AirPort dropouts here and there, not too frequently but just enough for it to be annoying - hope it's fixed!

Not everyone is a developer and/or software pirate.

As long as you buy it when it is released, there really isn't much of an issue IMO. Although I didn't pirate it, I see no issue with anyone "pirating" it as long as they buy the retail version.

GM? :D. What are you smoking?

Nothing, build 10A421a is completely flawless. I'm not having any issues. Are you?

BTW, is the iDisk icon really new to Leopard? Snow Leopard has had it for at least the past three builds.

Why is Safari updated?

Mine was 4.0.2 prior to the 10.5.8 release.. why are we hearing about Safari?

that icon is not new to 10.5.8. mine's was that blue color before the update, it hasn't been that purple color for a while now.

I use MobileMe and mine's was purple before the update, now blue.
