Did the install, first restart was fine, second one it threw up a kernel panic. I am thinking that this is not the update's fault though, as I have had probably half a dozen kernel panics on CPU 0 in the last 3-4 months... Here's hoping that a clean install of Snow Leopard in September will solve the problems...

As long as you buy it when it is released, there really isn't much of an issue IMO. Although I didn't pirate it, I see no issue with anyone "pirating" it as long as they buy the retail version.

Nothing, build 10A421a is completely flawless. I'm not having any issues. Are you?

BTW, is the iDisk icon really new to Leopard? Snow Leopard has had it for at least the past three builds.

Don

Ofc 10A421a has issues, tons. But not any major ones. So it's perfectly usable. But it's definitely not GM. There's still tons of debug code running behind.

I wouldn't be so sure. The first attempted install gave me the beachball of doom. A Force Quit stopped SU but I couldn't access any other application or shut the Macbook down. Fortunately I have a late 2008 unibody with a removable battery.

Second attempt looks good so far.

I'm surprised they didn't incorporate the new flash update or some GPX drivers.

EDIT: Anyone notice there's an addition to Hardware Overview in Sys Profile Hardware UUID

The new ones don't have a power button any more?:D

Sorry

Like I said before, the first restart took forever. But it worked eventually. It was like 3.0 taking forever to restart all over again on the Mac side:eek:

Wow, it's nice to see the operating system growing up. This is my first OS update on a Mac, and it feels a lot better than on Windows or even Linux machines. It's just that it's one update, including many fixes/new features/improvements.

I've been running these point updates since 2001, and the process has looked like this basically since the beginning of OS X (fast approaching a decade).

Yes, ATI drivers at the moment suck other then that no problems, but it's about two months till GM ;)

Excellent, it's fixed the Accelerated 3D settings that VMware had with the ATI graphics cards.

In case anybody is interested...

This update may have just fixed a problem for me - I had the misfortune to have to install bootcamp/vista on my iMac last week (I'm a Windows developer that prefers to use a Mac at home!) and since then the items in my menu bar (Clock, Wireless network, volume etc) have been missing.

The only way to get them back was to manually run the systemuiserver.app each time i booted up. I've tried all sorts of fixes (permissions, trashing prefs files, creating new user profiles) but to no avail. Anyway installing this update seems to have fixed the problem (so far anyway...).

Stupid newbie question. What is a Combo Update and why is it 759MB versus 247MB for the "regular" 10.5.8 update?

The combo update combines all updates fore a major point release. So everything after 10.5 and that is why it is so large. The other smaller updates are custom for a particular release. I see for my 10.5.6 the update is 758MB according to Software Update.

In the distant past a combo update proved to be more stable during the upgrade process. The non-combo update cause many people headaches. I don't recall what version that mess was. Many people now days go with the combo update.

I bet there are lots of people preparing to comment "What's Apple going to do next? It's their last chance of getting Leopard fixed because after 10.5.9 they run out of numbers!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!?!!???!?!?!?"

Seriously, I'm joking.

Hahaha because other people are stupid aren't they!?

Seriously though... is it too much to hope for that this will automagically bring back my dead sound output... or course it is, but i'm going to live in hope for the next 10mins while it downloads

good bye leopard been some good times :( btw this seem to have fixed my problem with my 2wire router no more drop-outs :D
