Some really nice undocumented changes.
Apple seems to have fixed a bug introduced with Leopard that sucked memory on 64-bit Intel with 3 GB or more RAM with systems running (Snow) Leopard. My memory footprint after starting up is now 150 MB (20%) smaller. The system seems to clean up memory better now too when it's not in use anymore. This may show nice performance improvement for people doing a lot of stuff on their Mac and having lots of applications open.
Smooth scrolling is now enforced default on the trackpad of my early '08 MacBook Pro and it works great!
is this update safe? i have a macpro 6core and new to Mac, reason I'm asking is because i'm reading that some people have sound issues and some apps don't seem to work anymore after the update. I'm in no way good on the technical part when it comes to computers especially Macs and i don't want to get myself in trouble ending up with no sound or what have you.
my computer is pretty much default so no extra ssd's or special sound cards, graphics cards etc.
is it smarter to wait it out a bit or safe to install now....[/QUOTE]
Always better to wait it out.

Yay.
10.6.5 Combo has broken office 2011 on *both* my MP and MBP.
Splendid...
Another proof that Mac OS Xs RAM management is plainly pathetic. I fear to install Lion just cuzz of this very reason.
Proof? I hope you are not serious.

Your argument cannot be taken seriously. I like updating my computers, Windows and Mac. It doesn't have anything to do with being a fanboy!
Of course for systems that are business critical people should be cautious and have a proper test methodology.

I wonder how you got those numbers from XBench.
You have iMac right? Sorry if I'm wrong.
I have a Mac Pro Early 2008 3GHz 8core with 12GB of RAM and Apples official HD5770 and updated to 10.6.5.
But I get like 258 with OpenGL Graphics Test.
Wonder whats wrong with this.
I installed through Software Update and Office 2011 is working for me.

That's like complaining your four cylinder car is using all four cylinders. Snow Leopard uses a lot of ram for me, but as soon as I launch a resource heavy program, it makes room for it.

The files and instuctions helped me get it to work.
Not for those who fear the terminal though.

Apple updates are never something to avoid, just the opposite. Apple forum users, however, are.
