Airprint working for me

Here's my setup

iTunes 10.1b10
Mac OS X 10.6.5 (10H574) (patched as detailed at 9 to 5 Mac:D)
Ipad running 4.2GM
HP F4180 shared from my Macbook.

Working great.

Big Hurrah to the 9 to 5 guys, thanks for the instructions and the files.

Let's hope Apple work through whatever issues they have with this for general release.

Cheers:)

So you think that there are basically no outstanding bugs in Windows 7? LOL. Do you use Windows 7?

Quick, call Microsoft, tell them to cancel the service pack.

That are noticible in everyday use? No there aren't. Do YOU use Win 7?

Win 7 was released in Jul 09, and so far hasn't had any service packs. SL was released a month later....5 'service packs' and counting for it.

Ongoing maint. and straight up ignoring are two different things. Apple has been guilty of the later a lot lately but people always give them a free pass. Windows has patch Tuesday as well as a roadmap for upgrades, Apple has neither.

Not trolling here (honestly), but this has been bugging me.

This is the 5th update of SL and each release has fixed numerous bugs some blatant, some more esoteric. Why is no one asking the obvious question of why all this time later they're still finding stuff that's broken?

Flame away, but this situation simply doesn't exist with Windows 7. The only updates outside of things like DST updates have been security related...

Because thats how software works. Millions of lines of code working together. You patch one thing and it may cause unintended consequences somewhere entirely different. There is no such thing as a bugless operating system.

with a little bit of hope that OpenGl performance has improved ... nada
as others pointed out .

Win 7 : 76 fr.

MacOS 10.6.5 : 38 fr.

Remark : win7 even on 32 bit

Thanx

Off question, but is there any chance you were running dual monitors on the Mac and only one with the Windows OS? The reason I ask is that I loose about the same percentage when running dual 1920 X 1200 vs. just one monitor at 1920 X 1200.

Success! Using the fix from yesterday, I'm able to print to my printer connected to my iMac via USB cable.

FWIW I applied last night on my Core Duo iMac (matte screen forever!) and didn't have any issues. Haven't had time to check if that annoying bug with the Help Menu font spacing has been fixed yet...

Just look around in your household, if you have one, you will always find things which need a repair or an update. Mac OS X is like your household.

I see your point. However, with all the updates for SL, I never noticed any of the bugs. Even the firmware update for the 27" iMac to resolve screen flicker - I didn't have it.

If Windows 7 is as good as you say, it is too bad MS took this long to get it right. Fed up with over two decades of MS letdowns, I switched to Mac last year and never looked back.

What would be cool is if MS developed a Windows version on a Linux kernel. Then I might consider using Windows again.

That's bad. Really bad. :(

But is it like this with all OpenGL related stuff?
For example I don't see any big difference in performance in Starcraft II if I compare how it runs in Windows 7 compared to Snow Leopard 10.6.4.

Same goes for WoW performance – everyone says it's so much better in Windows, but I simply don't notice any difference. If anything, when I in Windows 7 tried WoW (just running around in a busy place) and the did the same a few minutes later in Mac OS X the lowest frame rate was a bit higher in Mac OS X.

Just as a way to clarify my Airprint setup:

Macbook Pro
iTunes 10.1 B2
4.2GM iPhone 4
Epson SX515W

My printer is wireless and joined to the wireless network. All I did was select 'share printer' and it pops up on my iPhone. If it isn't then it doesn't work. Come to think of it, I need to test with the computer off.

I swear my aging MacBook does feel a bit faster than before.
I definitely notice a difference in iPhoto '11. It's way more usable now for me. I wouldn't say it "scrolls like butter" but it's better.
Also, I am now running my external monitor at the full resolution (2048 x 1152) where before the system seemed kind of laggy at that size.

When you go to /usr/libexec/cups/filter you'll wanna add the urfftopdf file. When to go the mime folder, all you do is replace the files you downloaded by copy and pasting them. It will ask if you want to replace and select ok.

Thats what I did, and it worked. I just printed a test page.

Where do I copy and paste the files for the mime folder? Back into the same mime folder? That seems redundant. I'm confused.

So are you saying that windows 7 hasnt had any updates since launch?

A service pack is simply a whole bunch of updates that have been periodically released over time. The apple method of releasing updates is different.

Update works fine my end, sleeping and waking seems faster also.

Yeah, looks like 10.6.5 killed my iPhone connectivity. Can't get it to charge or sync to my iMac. Hopefully the new iTunes has some new drivers that make it work somehow.

Do you know what a service pack is? It is the culmination of all previous security and maintenance updates plus other additions. XP has 3 of them.

Are you actually going to equate that with a 10.6.X update? Like C'mon.

Like has been mentioned above, no Patch Tuesday for Macs (maybe thats why there is no Windoze Rumors websites...whats to look forward to).

I have used W7 and it was a terrible experience. Clunky, non-intuitive, and ugly interface. Oooooohh it's better than its predecessor! then again not difficult to be

Correct. Windows 7 gets patched at least once per month with several patches and usually requires a reboot as well. I spend far more time maintaining my W7 installs than my OSX ones.

MBA Standby Mode

Anyone check to see if this update includes the new low-power standby mode that's currently on the new MBAs?

BTW, my favorite undocumented feature from an update was two-fingered scrolling. 10.4.5 maybe?

Getting into a conversation mid conversation and adding your 2 cents without reading the whole conversation is not a good idea. JQW stated clearing it was pointless. Nowhere did he say it was pointless to do it before installation just a generalization of it being pointless. My response was to him.

Nice try there, reading the entire thread was EXACTLY why I responded. And way to leave out the original post JQW responded to:

Repairing permissions and downloading NOW! :)

Repairing permissions right before doing an update IS pointless rigamarole. Apple says so and you even seem to agree at this point, so I'm not sure while you're still going on and on defending those wasting their time doing just that.

Really? Than what are these "stability and reliability update for Windows 7"? And don't they have an upcoming service pack announced? It seems questionable to assume that less frequent updates is a sign of fewer bugs...but it looks like they have had some bugfix updates not related to security.

Just updated via Combo, everything seems fine, iPhone is fine.

Only problem is Growlmail doesn't work.

Can you help me out? I've already copied the urfpdf file but am unsure what to do with the mime folder and its contents. Any thoughts?

You have copy the urfpdf (sounds like you already did) and then copy the other two files (apple.convs and apple.types) over the ones that are already on your computer in the mime folder. Make sure you go to the /usr/SHARE/cups folder. At first, I was looking at use/LIBEXEC/cups and didn't see a folder named /mime so I thought I was supposed to create one but that's not the case. You have to be in the /SHARE/cups and you will see a folder there called /mime. Copy the two files over the ones that are already there by the same name.

Hope that helps.

Airport...

Someone else mentioned earlier in the thread that they noticed a drop in their wireless connection on a new MBA 13"
I noticed the same thing happen to my 11" as well. Since I've had it, it's had a solid 4 bars and great speed, but after updating it's at a constant 3 bars and the download speed is now teh suxors.

Anyone else with MBA's notice this after updating or is it just coincidence?

D.

I guess we all can agree that the two OSes are about equal in this regard which is actually quite sad. The OS X claim to fame is that it is designed with very few computer models in mind and as such is supposed to be more stable and safe. It is not. Then what you get is an OS with a very limited choice of [overpriced] hardware and no advantages to speak of.

Exact same issue with Mac crashing after installing 10.6.5 update via software updat

Installed 10.6.5 and a few moments later was greeted with this. Thanks Apple, generous as always.

I have a mid 2009 MBP 13" 8gig ram 500GB HD. All was perfectly fine before the doing the update. Office 2011 was open with I got the message to hold the power button and restart so I thought that (Office 2011) was the culprit but after the reboot.

I opened Safari to do some research and after 5 minutes it crashed/ produced the same error asking to reboot. Rebooted ran disk permission repair that didn't help. After several crashes/ I attempted to use Safari to download the v10.6.5 Update (combo) to try and re-install but after a few minutes with Safari downloading it crashes again.

Currently I'm using Google Chrome to download the combo update and it has gotten to 346mb downloaded and counting.

***Update as I typed on my Win7 computer it crashed again.***

Any thoughts would be great. I don't have Time Machine running so not an option. If I can downgrade back to 10.6.4 successfully or attempt to reinstall again as a solution let me know.

I am attaching the last kernel panic report that was sent to Apple.

Thanks for any assistance
