I have a Logitech MX518 and it continues to work exactly like always. I would assume there's a mechanical problem with your mouse button. Some years ago I had a mouse which eventually got worn out and had similar problems.

I think the mouse is just fine seeing as the issue only occurred directly after I installed the update. For the the issue to occur right after is highly improbable.

Carbon Copy Cloner can completely cone the drive windows install and all..

Kenrik,
Just downloaded CCC - but apparently it won't backup the Boot Camp partition because it isn't HFS+ format. Here's what it says on their site...

Can CCC back up my BootCamp (Windows) partition?
Backing up non-HFS+-formatted volumes is not currently supported. I am investigating how to provide this support in a future release.

How does Microsoft get root access to your machines over the Internet? Do they know your admin password, or have you authorized some setuid "helper" tool to run on their behalf?

It doesn't, Windows has no "all powerful" root account.
Hmm, does that mean you don't know the answer then?
[please note: my actual question was "how does" . . . not "how doesn't.".]

Doesn't matter i guess, this is probably not the thread in which to pursue Windows security.

I'm trying to update my 2010 MBP and I'm getting an error message after the download completes and the software tries to get installed. It tells me "an error occured during installation". I cleared the cache and the update folders in the Library and tried again, but I'm still getting the same issue. Any suggestions? TIA.

Have you tried using the combo updater from Apple's Downloads page rather than the software update?

My Joy with 10.6.5 was short lived I'm back to kernel panic, instead of every 5-7 minutes it may wait 45 minutes or an hour until I decide to work intensely on something. Guess I will be calling Apple Care again to see if they have and further suggestions, or will I have to wait for a fix of sorts.

Post your system logs.

10.6.5 Server Packages are gone!

Anyone else notice that Apple seems to have pulled down both the regular and the combo update for Server??? The server forums are rife with problems of broken dovecot mail server post-upgrade, with users being able to see other users' email, so maybe I dodged a bullet. They also busted LDAP badly for those of us who run it over SSL. I dodged a bullet there too it seems. I wasn't going to install it in production today anyway, but was going to stage it on a lab server that we test everything with first. Interesting, just thought I'd note it...but I've never seen Apple pull a server update after releasing it. The links to it are all broken and no Software Update reveals it anymore. It all changed late Friday night/Saturday morning. I'm sure there's a story here somewhere. Come on Apple, dedicate some developers to Server and get this thing fixed. It's embarassing actually.

10.6.5 : serious issue in landscape oriented printing

With the MacOSX 10.6.5 update there was introduced a serious issue for printing landscape oriented documents, especially from Adobe applications. The issue is printer independent and affects almost applications creating a native postscript output. There is no real solution at the moment, other than to stay in 10.6.4. See forum at Apple:

i do understand we are dealing with technology here so ofcourse there are going to be problems at one time...the problem i'm having is that i was experiencing problems with a brand new computer that coasted me close to 4000 Euro's, apparently Apple is still shipping out Mac Pro's with faulty graphics cards since i have read a post only yesterday from a guy who has received his brand new mac pro and gets nothing but static when turning it on. now with all due respect but this is absolutely unacceptable especially since the problem is wel documented and people started complaining about it soon as the first macpro 2010 models got delivered in august, we're almost 5 months further and not "1" word from apple on this problem or how they are going to fix this. Now i don't care how much someone's into a particular brand but this is just ridiculous, especially for a company that claims to be "the best with the best customer care". Its obvious Apple doesn't care about its customers or they would have jumped on this problem from day one...actually if they had descent quality check these machines wouldn't even get delivered.

Being more quit about updates is one thing, not saying a word about the faulty machines or graphics cards they put in the computers is something else.

One thing i learned = don't believe the hype

I was only addressing software. If you have a hardware problem, that is different. Apple tends to be very insular, and have few suppliers. So when there is a problem, it can be nasty. There really is no excuse for it. If nothing else, in your situation, they should simply replace with a different card....but do they have one?

I haven't read through the entire 11 page thread but has anyone else had major corruption issues after 10.6.5 update?

After updating to 10.6.5 my late model 2009, originally 10.6.2, iMac 27in i7 System Corruption and harddrive unable to be repaired from boot disc. (recommended to backup everything possible and and erase/format partition)
  • System Intermittently fails to boot up all the way.
  • System Intermittently boots to desktop and has rainbow spinning cursor...
  • iTunes 10.1 update fails to install...
  • Several Programs are failing to allow me to back them up
  • Yet sometimes the system boots and is completely usable
-- I repaired permissions just before the update, and after.
From boot disc, When repairing the harddisk it fails and says to backup and format and reinstall Mac OS X

Details of the situation:
  • -- Apple recommends repairing filesystem permissions and harddrive before and after every system update.
  • -- About two-three weeks before the upgrade I had previously resizeed the partition on the harddrive for bootcamp
----- This required verification and repair of permissions and verification and repair of the harddrive

So an update after an update 10.6.4 to 10.6.5, on a system that was in good working order, with the filesystem & partition recently tuned up and perfect became corrupted after update. (My Filesystem's B+ Journal is corrupted, fails to repair.)

I barely have even used the computer, the only thing installed is iLife and Microsoft Office 2007. No downloaded/aftermarket anything. The computer is only used for Garageband. So I have done nothing to cause this.

I called Apple support and they told me I am lucky I'm even able to boot into the system. That I should backup and reformat, if the reformat fails bring the iMac in for a new harddrive. (23 days left on 1 year warranty)

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Apple's Official position on this issue is users should repair permission and harddisk and backup the system before any 'major' 10.6.x system update. They officially state that the update can cause a system with already damage permissions to fail. They also suggested to purchase aftermarket software such a DiskWarrior to fix the filesystem.
** How can a company Official recommended tasks to be done before/after an update yet have auto updates setup the way they do? **

I've been using Mac OS X since 10.0~10.1 my previous systems were an iBook with 10.0 and a 10.1 upgrade disk.. then a powermac dual 1ghz G4 with 10.2?... $3000 but lasted 3+ years of heavy usage....every system update and new OS name 10.x This has never happened to me before. I've run 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, & 10.6... and gone through all the updates with no problems before.

So, far the sake of my sanity and not having to read this entire thread.. was there a reason the 10.6.5 Server was pulled?

i started to get some issues with wireless today. It was after doing the iTunes update.

I rebooted, reset pram and it still didn't work, so I used the Kext Utility and it fixed the problem.

trying to fix AirPrint

I followed the combined instructions and managed to find the shared printers. but printing will not commence:confused:
my only question right now goes to all the people who found the /usr/share/cups/mime/ folder; mine had 4 files
apple.types (the ones that got replaced)
apple.convs (the ones that got replaced)
mime.types ;do i need these ones?
mime.convs ;do i need these ones?
I will try one more reboot for good measure
and then i will try and do it all over again:eek:

I tried to install the Combo Updater this evening, and was given an error message that the installation failed and that I should contact the manufacturer. Hm, who knows what that's about.

Disk Util Verify Disk was fine.
Some permissions were weird, but I've NEVER had no permissions issues, so I don't know whether they are ever all in order. I don't usually care that much.

I guess I can try again. This Snow Leopard caper seems a bit dodgy to me, after having used 10.4 on a PowerMac for many years.

EDIT: Tried again. "The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." Eh.

Have SMART software or bad RAM? Try starting up with the shift key. Zap the PRAM with Command Option P R held down at startup until it chimes twice.

iphoto in 10.6.5

does anyone else have the issue of iphoto not recognizing their pictures anymore. It still list my camera under devices as "no name" but for the life of me I can't get it to my pictures anymore. it still works fine on my macbookpro with 10.6.4.

or possibly a direction on where to look on this forum, I have tried searching it and not having any luck. thank you!

I have lion and wanted to use my iPad to print to the MFC-9840CDW like yours, how does this work? I selected print on the iPad (AirPrint) but it cannot find the printer, any ideas? How did you get yours to work?

Thanks, ChuckG!

AirPrint now works great on my Brother MFC-9840CDW!

However, the formatting of Word documents is not as good as Print n Share, because the latter actually opens up Word on the computer and prints from there. But PDF's, email, and photos seem fine (I haven't tested any other document types). AirPrint is much less cumbersome than Print n Share.
