Interesting ... it shows me the applications from iLife and iWork as "installed". Does this work only for Apple products or is that something that every software manufacture can implement?

Not sure but I already had a couple of non-Apple products installed and they were already listed as 'installed'.

I was unsure about how a Mac App Store would look/feel, but now that I have it, I think it's brilliant. It gives smaller developers a much greater chance to reach their intended audience.

I like.

Is it possible that Apple will start offering new OSes (ie. Lion) through the Mac App Store? Would certainly help MBA owners who don't have a USB optical drive (and honestly, who wants to buy one of those?).

It doesn't seem to do all of them. I have Pixelmator and GarageSale installed, but doesn't show that in the App Store.

Also, when you are purchasing something shouldn't it ask for approval before buying?

What I really like about this is after I do a clean install of the OS, all downloaded apps from the store are installed without having to hunt for websites or manage DMG files.
I don't have it yet. Is that officially how it works? That one feature would make it worth having all by itself.

I agree, it's impressive. Very simple to use and I think this is going to be a big hit. Especially for new Mac users.

"The Mac app store:
Open for business, and games, and more."

... but not for correct punctuation.

Hard to imagine that, given the size of the OS releases. Maybe Apple will move to releasing new versions of OSX to USB flash sticks, similar to the recovery module shipped with the MBA?

I've only installed a couple of free stuff but I do hope there'll be a pop-up to confirm any purchases. Otherwise it could be very costly for any finger-tapping fiends out there.

That hasn't worked for any of my third party apps that are in the app store (TextWrangler, PCalc, Mariner Paperless, ...). I don't have current versions of iLife/iWork so I don't expect them to show up.

If it's listed as "installed" does it somehow show in your "purchases" tab?

Hey Guys,

A little off topic, but what's better: Pixelmator or Aperture?

not sure if I like that it automatically creates an entry in my dock - that one is already crowded with my most used apps - but than, it's just one drag to remove them from there (and makes it probably easier for the not so technical user to find the apps)

Indeed. If I'm reading this right, they're moving their whole retail operation to the Mac App Store. http://www.pixelmator.com/transition/

That's what I was getting from that page.

I can see the appeal to independents of going this way. Dealing with credit card companies, running a web based merchant system, and the required bandwidth for software downloads is a daunting (and expensive) thing.

Passing the buck (or at least 30 percent of the buck) to Apple makes a lot of sense.

No, I have iFlicks listed as "installed" but does not show in the purchases tab.
