A bit off-topic

Can I download Lion in a re-seller store?
My home connection is 384k and my university is closed for holidays.
And we don't have Apple stores here.
Can the download be paused/resumed?

Personally, I consider all updates to be required.

That's my usual thinking as well, but on the other hand, as I have a weak internet connection, considering that Lion is imminent, if I could avoid THIS one I gladly would.

Btw, I dread having to download 4 GB of Lion on a 512 KBps Wimax :(.

does this stuff go into lion?

forgive the newbie question....
really pleased that Apple keep updating a great OS.
I use VPN a lot so any improvement to that is welcome - the cisco vpn client is rubbish. however when lion comes out - will all the improvements in 10.6.8 be in lion? ie will the vpn get worse again? or will the next build of lion have all the improvements that 10.6.8 has in it?
do the teams talk to each other?

It will take you few nights to download, you know, while you are asleep.

My download took about 4mins around 5pm today.

working fine on a 2.16ghz c2d macbook pro 15"

However I did run disk utility before the install to repair permissions.

Good, because all updates are installed with Admin rights, which will overwrite all of those permissions you wasted your time "repairing".

I have an early 2008 iMac with ATI 2600. The driver was updated from 1.6.26 to 1.6.36. Cinebench shows about 7% better openGL performace compared to 1.6.24 found in 10.6.5. Good to see they are still improving the drivers even in the (what seems to be) last SL point release and not cripling it in favour of Lion (which BTW I definitily won't use the new "app store" Job's madness to get it any time soon).

Kernel Panic

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Holly cow I'm getting a kernel panic on startup right after the update... :( will have to troubleshoot after the class -_-

I'm also getting a kernel panic on startup. I can only boot in safe mode. Early 2009 MacBook. I've tried deleting HandsOff! with no joy.

energy saver preferences messed up

after the update (10.6.8) if i put my macbook display to sleep by pressing the f1 key on keyboard, the display automatically wakes up after 2min, then if any key pressed it goes back to sleep.

Nice!

As hinted at earlier this week, Apple has now released Mac OS X 10.6.8, the eighth maintenance update for Snow Leopard, via Software Update. The update offers a number of fixes implemented since the release of Mac OS X 10.6.7 in late March.Direct links for the various downloads on Apple's support pages should be going live shortly.

Thanks to MacUpdate for the heads-up!

Looks like that they're really getting ready for getting Mac OS X Lion! :D:D

New OpenGL Extensions?

Has anyone checked if there are new OpenGL Extensions?

Last update had a couple of OpenGL 3.2 extensions available, but a lot where still missing. I have not updated yet, but maybe someone could post the version of the NVIDIA kext.

Thanks

No way, Apple treats 0.1 as a major release.
That was not always the case. We have systems numbered X.Y.Z
In the classic OS days and for iOS the X is a new major release. 5.0.0 or 8.0.0 etc etc. But for OS X the Y is a new major release. 10.5.0, 10.6.0 etc etc.

Notice the difference?

working flawlessly and is teh snappy - use the combo updater!

No problems at all (MBP 2010).

Not joking about speed, itunes and the app store are now WAY faster. Something is different here.

People, just go with the heavy download of the combo updater, it's the safe way to upgrade. Always done it, never had problems.

D

After trying relentlessly to install this it hangs at the grey screen apple logo cog wheel before it even gets a quarter of the way installed. Then it just powers down. I know this isn't the correct forum but any help would be appreciated.

snappy is better! i may have to save some files and download/restart this weekend.

Not sure what the hell some of you are doing to have so many issues. Are you guys cursed? Are you poking your Mac hard with a stick? My 2007 MacBook took the update like a champ.

You all must keep your Macs in a sketchy unstable state.
