Apple Releases macOS Big Sur With Fresh Design, Control Center, Safari Privacy Report, Messages Updates, Maps Overhaul and More

*Blahblah, not much else to say, plenty of others here and in other places agree with me, macOS and before OS X was and still is a very stable OS, unlike for instance Windows.

*Not going to listen to a one post newbie.

FYI, I totally agree OS X/MacOS is more stable, but that's not what you were presenting. Your posts were "you *never* have to do a clean install, ever*.

The Bandwagon Fallacy

Just because a significant population of people believe a proposition is true, doesn't automatically make it true. Popularity alone is not enough to validate an argument, though it's often used as a standalone justification of validity. Arguments in this style don't take into account whether or not the population validating the argument is actually qualified to do so, or if contrary evidence exists.

While most of us expect to see bandwagon arguments in advertising (e.g., "three out of four people think X brand toothpaste cleans teeth best"), this fallacy can easily sneak it's way into everyday meetings and conversations.

Gandolf is now complaining

Not happening for me on a late 2017 iMac. When I try, I get this.

EDIT: It appears I have a Catalina 10.15.7 update that wants to restart first. That is probably the cause of the error...
I have that too..... as soon as I click the Update button it fails. Earlier I was stuck with various download stalls and failures. Anyone get this fix yet?

Armchair analysis - the servers are crashing because the backbone of the internet is experiencing major usage surges. Why? Think about it:
  • Apple releasing their latest macOS update, Big Sur
  • Apple releasing their next iOS betas - ios 14.3, watchOS 7.2, and tvOS 14.3
  • Playstation 5 launch day - day 1 updates to almost all new games releasing at launch with the console
  • Xbox Series S and Series X - they launched 2 days ago, but I am sure players are still downloading day 1 patches to games today too
So, just those 4 aspects alone, I can imagine the backbone of the internet crippling with traffic.....Thoughts?

Seems Big Sur has been pulled altogether -- no longer appears in Software Update, and if reached via App Store, it says "The requested version of macOS is not available."

I would say those 2 alone are the pressure. The numbers of Big Sur and 14.3 would be minimal compared to the Xbox and the PS5

Not so sure. There were over 5M Macs sold in 2019 alone. There are less than half a million each Xbox Series X and PS 5's out there now

In App store under Utilities, its there. Click on it and it go to the Software update in Prefs, says finding update, then fails when you click the Update button. Totally screwed up.

Now always stops at 1.88Go download... then fails...

Meanwhile Apple considers it fixed... good job guys...

Don't know why you would say that when it works for literally no other user. It's clearly not resolved no matter what the site says, so why claim that it works?

The link worked to download the installer package, that's all. If you see my other posts you'll understand that I'm not convinced and haven't used the downloaded file, so no, the issue of the upgrade is not resolved.

there is an obvious and serious failure in apples system testing and quality control groups. has their budget been cut?

I wonder if talent and money have been redirected to their Apple+ venture.
They should "tend to their knitting"

heads should roll
