I’m afraid... this doesn’t have anything to do with jailbreak, at least in Catalina. There might be a kernel security flaw indeed.

What I’d be interested to know is if there are any bug fix or performances improvements... some people say that 10.15.5 is slower/sluggish compared to 10.15.3 (which is the version I’m still running.

By the way, if I download now the installer, does it have this patch included to perform a clean install? Thank you.

Jailbreaks are always based on security vulnerabilities. Sometimes they apply across platforms, other times they don't. This is one of the times where the problem affects all of Apple's platforms.
The 10.15.5 installer will include the supplemental update.

I have a 2019 21.5 iMac still on 10.15.4 everything I've read points to the fact that all the 10.15.5 changes are only for laptops. Any reason that iMac people need to update? Thanks.
Other than the entire list of security fixes in it? Gee, no, not at all.

Yup, just read through it again.

I'm curious: why is an update like this so large, and why does it take so long after download for the update to install?

It’s a combined security-update with all the previous updates in it. Besides that it superseeds the previous update entirely. Besides security related fixes Apple may also include other changes to the OS. They also tend to include a lot of security fixes.

It usually takes so much time, because updating the OS file by file is rather complicated as the installer will have to search for a bit of code in an app, replace it and verify it. They don’t replace apps or services completely (that would be faster). And since you’ll need that process to run 10.000 - 100.000 times installing the update takes some time.

SECURITY.... some days ago i discovered accidentally that my apfs (encrypted) pen drive was available (read/write) for other user (standard) accounts, including GUEST ACCOUNT (!!!). volume permissions was totally screwed without any reason. i removed "staff", "wheel", and other ***** and finally its asking password again... SECURITY...WHAT???

does anyone else see more CPU usage on OBS before the update streaming only used only 20% now its using 30-80% and fan comes on now and it didn't before

Security experts are testing and hardening the system in exchange for bounty rewards. That's the why of it--more pros hacking on it to flush out potential exploits.

Bug bounties would cause the opposite effect and reduce the number of supplemental updates, since in order to get the money, you have to keep the bug confidential, enabling Apple to roll it into a regularly scheduled update with proper QA.

Updated to this on my 2018 Mac mini with no issues! I noticed my iPhone and Apple Watch also had updates. I wonder if they are somehow related?

Same vulnerability as in Catalina and all the other OSes.

It’s real sad that Snow Leopard never had these issues - I think when OS X went from Snow to Lion and so forth it was all about making OS X a toy platform and IOS platform. I still use on my Mac Pro Snow Leopard and High Sierra.. also hacked Mojave (Dosdude) to get it to work without a metal
Card. Metal cards are too expensive.

After this security update, Apple Music on my Mac somehow stops working, and it took me a couple of restarts to fix it...

Snow Leopard had plenty of security vulnerabilities. Don't kid yourself.

I don't know why a "security patch" takes 30+ minutes to finish. Clicked "download & restart" this morning because this is only a "supplemental", and it ends up being downloading 1.2GB of data and staring at the progress bar for 30 minutes.

For the love of god, tell user how many time it needs to finish the update before we click "restart now".

Every OS has security vulnerabilities. It's not possible to make one without them. There's people working at all times to find any possible way to do something. What matters is how fast they are patched.

Is there a combo update that includes this supplemental update?

I'm not sure if the combo update in the link below includes the supplemental update, but the webpage says it was posted on June 1, 2020, which is the same day that the supplemental update (on another Apple webpage) was posted.

If anyone can confirm that the combo update in that link includes the supplemental update, please reply and let us know.

Hi guys, could this be the long awaited solution for the kernel panics, system crashes, sleep wake problem?
