I was able to download the file but when I try to install it I'm getting an error... "The installation failed. An error occurred installing the update."

I even tried updating in safe mode but the same thing happened.

Please help!

If you type command-L in the installer, you'll get a log file which will be more useful for troubleshooting.

Installed on my late-2016 13" MBP no problem, and was actually reasonably fast (maybe 20mins total?) Given some early comments, was expecting this to be an hour+... I was coming from the 10.15.5 already, so maybe it doesn't take as long if you're already on the most recent version?

Here is the log file.

Please help!

Your computer either doesn't have an active internet connection, or can't contact Apple, while trying to do the installation. Make sure it's online, and try the installation again.

So, I was able to update to 10.15.5 after creating a new user id (admin).

But now I’m really worried! Will I have to do that every time an update comes out?

Or Should I erase the disk and reinstall the OS?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I use it in clamshell mode and while I was having lunch it crashed, so they haven't fixed that bug. Fortunately it only happened a few times during the past 2 months

It could have just been an internet connection issue that's resolved now and I wouldn't erase and start over at this point. The computer will need to be able to contact Apple during most operating system updates, though.

Thank you Taz Mangus for the build confirmation. I just "upgraded" from Mojave on the 3rd and wanted to make sure the Installer included the Security Update that came out on the 1st... and it did. I'm waiting a few more days to post an assessment on MacRumors, but so far way better than expected 🤞

I am not sure what this update did to my 2017 iMac but 1st time I tried quite a few 3rd party apps would not open (Google Chrome, Polar Sync, etc... not just small weird ones) so I called apple 3 times, 1st time was the reset everything and unplug, none of that worked so reinstall the OS was chosen, that got hung up for over an hour so I called again, did a few more things and tried the reinstall OS again, this time it finished but couldn't log in, put in password and the screen would flicker and go back to login, called again did some things and finally resorted to a time machine back up from day before. 5 hours later everything is running fine... Not sure what this update did but I will skip it.

I'm not sure if the combo update in the link below includes the supplemental update, but the webpage says it was posted on June 1, 2020, which is the same day that the supplemental update (on another Apple webpage) was posted.

Download macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Combo Update
If anyone can confirm that the combo update in that link includes the supplemental update, please reply and let us know.
I have finally updated my MBP to Catalina 10.15.4 directly from 10.14.x. Then I used the combo 10.15.5 updater to take it to the present. Following, I see no further updates being advised. So I think this suggests that the combo update file has incorporated the supplemental update files. It's now 10.15.5 (19F101).

Been using a clean install of 10.15.5 (the latest build with the patch included) and it’s silk smooth, seamless, near perfect performance, no issues. The machine is a 2014 Mac mini with the 2,6GHz configuration, and 8GB of RAM plus 1TB SSD.

Maybe it is thanks to the Samsung 860 EVO SSD, but my Mac mini is fast with Catalina.
