Just updated to 12.4. Anybody have any idea what mds_stores is doing. It seems to be in excess of 100% cpu. Also 11 copies of mdworker_shared Maybe doing some kind of indexing? Seems to be settling down a bit. No back up to 126%.

Going to try a reboot.
It's my understanding that those processes are for 'backup' type applications. I see that process running high on my end when a Time Machine backup is running, when BackBlaze is backing up, or when iMazing is backing up. And yes, the indexing is a part of that. Rebooting will only delay that process from happening.

Now that Universal Control is out of beta, I'm having trouble. Automatically reconnect won't allow a check on my MacBook Pro 14. A nearby Mac mini won't add as a display. These never failed before the latest macOS update. Interesting...

Update: This fixed itself after a full shutdown and restart (not just a reboot).

Well almost a day in and i get 100% fail rate for 2nd monitor coming out of sleep vs 50% before.

But it finally turns on within 5 minutes now instead of 30+

A machine starting at 2grand, and it can’t handle dual monitors..

Whoever apple has been hiring the last few years for software should be fired, clean house and start a new.

I'd argue they just made it easy to distinguish from one another by removing the flags...

The clearer distinction is definitely the main goal. However since there has been a long dissatisfaction with using flags in software to represent language when the speakers may be from very different and even at war countries that just happen to share the same language in some regions.

It does NOT fix the USB problems. Still takes 30-60 seconds per drive to mount external devices on a new M1 Max mac.

Just enumerating - not even mounting - takes minutes on a TB-4 hub. Why on earth can't apple get this xied?

I started the update yesterday on my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), left the room and came back to a dark screen. Woke it and saw a kernel panic screen. I tried restarting it several times and ended up in the same place each time. Eventually, I ended up restarting in Recovery Mode, Disk First Aid said it was okay, so I took the plunge to reinstall the OS.

Fortunately that was fine and everything seems back to normal so far except my Watch won't unlock it anymore. That could be the Watch update though.

Side note: isn't it nice the way we can reinstall the OS and it's not a big deal? All my third-party stuff is as it was, as are my files. I don't remember it being like that years ago. I still hesitate like it's a last resort.

System Preferences says it’s 2.xxGB before the download, but 3.11GB during the download.

does anyone know if they fixed thunderbolt-connected external disks going into sleep on their own? it happens to everyone, especially with owc enclosures. it's ridiculous that you have to use third-party apps like amphetamine to be able to work decently

12.4 still has some thunderbolt related bugs... USB2.0 devices connected via thunderbolt sometimes drop out when the system goes to and resumes from sleep. The bug is present on x86 and ARM.
I Still can't have 2 monitors via thundebolt on my 2018 Mac Mini. I AM GOING NUTS. I rarely update my OS , but because of a creative choice for a project, I needed a new plugin. The plugin works....but It sucks to eft in FCP with only one monitor. Anyone still has similar issues? Anyone has a fix?

Music App progress bar still less functional than iTunes 1.0 and you must hover over it to see time elapsed and remaining. Otherwise it's as useless as Windows 3.1 progress bars which gave no indication as to actual progress. I used the ability to see this for literally decades. Move a front window to glance at the progress bar to see time remaining on song. Well nope. I still have to completely switch to the app and mouse over. I'd love to give feedback on the Music app but that doesn't seem to be an option on the Apple Feedback page which seems to list most other default installation MacOS apps.

12.4 seems to resolve the external SSD speed on M1 Pro machine, I'm getting the usual speeds (~450MB/s) on LaCie Mobile SSD where before the update the drive was unusable at approx. 8MB/s.

I'm one day in and have now noticed charge issues on this version. After a while the device (MBP M1 Max 16") will not take charge on any port. Only restart solves it. I'm on a software setup with potential compound culprits (Aldente, Amphetamine etc) so maybe those are the actual ones that require update.

So far, Safari on this release is a flaming POS. Numerous websites I visit no longer work. Safari keeps reloading and reloading. Cannot log into my bank, my 3D applications. What a frigging PITA.

UPDATE: I think the issue I'm having is related to 1Password Extension and Safari. If I uninstall the Extension logins now work again. Strange.

Huh, What websites are you having issues with? I’ve found the opposite, and that Safari works very well for me. I’ve even started using the tab groups, with a number of different sites. No problem getting to any webpages that I frequent, and I’m surprisingly not having any more issues with iCloud sync and all of my safari tabs across devices.

New MacOS updates always welcome. Hope it is bug-free and snappier! Any news from real world users on whether the Mac Studio Display's webcam quality has really been improved?
I see no or very little difference in the firmware update for the Studio Display, really disappointed in the quality...

12.4 messed up iMessage for me. Random bug and app closing. I do not recommend.
