Am I the only one whose Mac is running much much better on Monterey?
The Safari Bookmark menu sticking issue has finally resolved and my Mini is running much smoother and faster than before.

just spoke with OWC. they said a similar issue happened with High Sierra. they 'fix' was to rent an original Apple drive from them (or use the one you have), install Mavericks (assuming a clean drive), upgrade to Monterey. then, put in Aura Pro X2 and try upgrading to Monterey, possibly the needed firmware upgrade will have been installed. Messy.

Apparently, Apple will not install firmware upgrades with a non-Apple drive.

(this is for folks with OWC Aura Pro X2 and are not getting Monterey installed because of inability to upgrade EFI firmware)
That did the trick. Dusted off my old Apple original SSD, updated from Big Sur to Monterey, replaced back the Aurora x2 and made a clean install. Worked!

Thanks a million for this great tip, even though it was a hassle.

Says the requested version of MacOS is not available. Seems like they may have pulled it?

Edit:App store said it was compatible but according to the website it’s not, MacBook Pro 2014. Guess it’s time to get new hardware.
Yeah I don't think the Mac App Store is sophisticated enough to detect the exact model you are using as I got the same on my late 2013 MacBook Pro where the App Store showed Monterey with a Get button which then launched settings and popped up a message saying it wasn't available.

fairly sure this is same problem I am having with Aura Pro X2 (OWC) on 2013 MacPro and an external OWC SSD......apparently, there is an EFI update with Monterey and it will only install if drive is factory Apple
Yes, same issue here, but I have a factory Apple SSD, but it is an NvME 2 TB which is bigger than came with this Mac -- original was not NvME. Escalated to Sr. Apple Support, tried all their ideas, but they did not care to take my installer log file and told me to goto the Apple Store or wait for a Monterey update to get released. ?

Thanks for that info. Apple did not properly test this release, no user should have to jump through hoops like that. Apple FAIL.

If I do this in terminal:
sudo /usr/libexec/firmwarecheckers/eficheck/eficheck --integrity-check
I get:
EFI Version: MBP121.88Z.0177.B00.1806051659
Matching allowlist not found in EFIAllowListShipping. Searching in EFIAllowListAll.
Primary allowlist version match found. No changes detected in primary hashes.

Is this the issue? So everyone who upgraded their Mac can't use macOS Monterey.
MacBookPro11,5 -- I get:

EFI Version: MBP114.88Z.0184.B00.1806051659

I can confirm this issue regarding non-Apple drives. I have two 2015 MacBook Pros updated with Samsung 970 EVO Plus drives and ran into this issue on both. Reinstalling the Apple SSD allowed the Monterey install, and then putting the Samsung SSD back in also allowed for the Monterey upgrade. Running perfectly now.
Also applies to Apple OEM SSDs which did not come with the Mac, as in my case: AHCI 1 TB - NvME 2 TB, both Apple OEM SSDs.

I've updated my Mac with the original SSD drive. Installed macOS Monterey on this drive to get the EFI firmware update and after that placed my Samsung SSD and installed macOS Monterey. Works great!

Noticeable audio quality improvement on an iMac 2020 using Apple Music. Also, Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos is now enabled for supported tracks.

I have an OWC Aura Pro X2 in my 2015 MBA and upgrade to Monterey was flawless. Anyone know if this is the latest firmware and boot ROM available for the Early 2015 MBA (2.2 i7)?

EFI Version: MBA71.88Z.F000.B00.2109250556 (Boot ROM Version: 428.40.10.0.0)

Tried to upgrade to Monterey last night on my M1 MBA.

  • Downloaded the update via Software Update in System Preferences, over my slow and metered internet connection, all 12GB
  • Got an initialization error when installer launched
  • Had to force quit installer
  • Launched the installer that downloaded, and it proceeded to re download the entire 12GB
  • An hour and a half later, after the download finished, it popped up a reauthentication dialog, exactly as I clicked an element on a webpage in Safari, and I ended up hitting the cancel button.
  • Relaunched the installer and it started to redownload the entire installer package AGAIN.
Needless to say I terminated the installer. 24GB and four hours down the drain. This can wait.
