Hi all,

After the upgrade to macOS Monterey on my MBA M1 - the system uses ca: +3GB RAM less than on Big Sur. On my Mac mini late 2014 the CPU does not work as intense as before.

So far it is a happy ride!

All the best,

////Mike

same here....tried all those as well, and bootable USB with Monterey installer......install bombs
just spoke with OWC. they said a similar issue happened with High Sierra. they 'fix' was to rent an original Apple drive from them (or use the one you have), install Mavericks (assuming a clean drive), upgrade to Monterey. then, put in Aura Pro X2 and try upgrading to Monterey, possibly the needed firmware upgrade will have been installed. Messy.

Apparently, Apple will not install firmware upgrades with a non-Apple drive.

(this is for folks with OWC Aura Pro X2 and are not getting Monterey installed because of inability to upgrade EFI firmware)

I forgot to mention bitdefender is not Monterey compatible (safari extension) in case you are using any. What type of Mac?
Immediately after Monterey install, 'Bitdefender for Mac' caused Time Machine to not function properly - would prevent it from operating. Got onto their Support, and they released an update to their files this morning (26 Oct 2021) that fixes that.
I don't know about their web extensions - I'm not experiencing any issues in Firefox (sorry - I rarely use Safari).

Issue installing on Mac Pro (late 2013) with OWC Aurora Pro x2 SSD. Stops mid-process at 'firmware' upgrade saying incompatible disk.

Anyone else get prompts from Core Sync requesting access to Documents, Desktop, and Downloads, right after explicitly turning off iCloud use of those directories?

I've downloaded the macOS Monterey installer en started it on my supported MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015). When the MacBook is preparing for the restart, the installer fails. See attached screenshot. I Have a 1 TB Solid State PCI-Express Drive HD (Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB) formatted as Apple_APFS. Anyone with an idea how to start this?

I've checked with Disk Utility and the HD is fine. Also booted in Safe Mode but same installer fail issue.

Maybe some have mention this already (still going through the thread), but what a lovely release. Really builds upon Big Sur. Glad they didn't change the UI too much or at all (I love the almost paper-like design).

Bugs!

QuickTime Player and Quickview have UI objects/glyphs going all over the place. Why do we need this arrow thing to the right to access a couple of options? Same in iOS, but that I can deal with, but I wouldn't mind having these options just there in the timeline.

There's a few other UI bugs, like buttons without shadows and so on, but I reckon this'll be fixed in the future.

Full screen mode in light mode has a black menubar. Nooooooooooo. I like the light one.

But, everything seems great and liking Quick Notes and looks like they've tidied up a few things and just made it snappier.

Oh, forgot to say, this is on a Mac mini M1.

fairly sure this is same problem I am having with Aura Pro X2 (OWC) on 2013 MacPro and an external OWC SSD......apparently, there is an EFI update with Monterey and it will only install if drive is factory Apple

OWC, similar issue happened with High Sierra they said

Depending on your install method, you will see
If I do this in terminal:
sudo /usr/libexec/firmwarecheckers/eficheck/eficheck --integrity-check
I get:
EFI Version: MBP121.88Z.0177.B00.1806051659
Matching allowlist not found in EFIAllowListShipping. Searching in EFIAllowListAll.
Primary allowlist version match found. No changes detected in primary hashes.

Is this the issue? So everyone who upgraded their Mac can't use macOS Monterey.

your terminal stuff is over my head (update: I tried your terminal command, found same allow list comment, though perhaps this EFI not ok with Monterey)

OWC also said some (couple?) have been able to install Monterey with OWC Aura Pro X2

And, my 2015 iMac with OWC SSD installed Monterey (in contrast to my 2013 MacPro with Aura Pro X2 or trying an external OWC SSD connected to MacPro)

Getting directions with Maps it's telling me my route will pass through a High Wind Warning (it will) and is offering me a longer roundabout route that avoids it. That's really cool, great feature!

However, the whole "Explore" vs "Driving" is horrible. I have to go to "Driving" to see traffic but have no idea what I might not be seeing because I'm not in "Explore". Why can't we have user-selectable layers???

Far too often I still find myself looking at a screen where a road that is a numbered route does not have that number shown *anywhere* whether I'm zoomed in to just a block, or zoomed out and seeing 4-6 miles of that road. Maps fails to label far too easily, and that's in "Driving" mode, too, where absolutely everything should be labeled.

I can confirm this issue regarding non-Apple drives. I have two 2015 MacBook Pros updated with Samsung 970 EVO Plus drives and ran into this issue on both. Reinstalling the Apple SSD allowed the Monterey install, and then putting the Samsung SSD back in also allowed for the Monterey upgrade. Running perfectly now.

Messages crashes on launch. 'Tried to reinstall Big Sur, will not let me. Stuck. Otherwise seems ok on my MacBook Pro.
I've spent many hours now trying everything anywhere that is suggested. The last step will be to contact Apple and see if somehow my account was incorrectly blocked. Others have reported this despite Messages/iMessage continuing to work on other devices for the same account. I even get notifications about messages and can reply in that box.

UPDATE! This solved it! https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253296536

Found this elsewhere and seems to be an issue with AddressBook-v22.abcddb in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook

Moved it to the Bin and hey presto Messages up and running :D

No upgrade for mid 2014 MBP, EOL unfortunately. What is the technical reason for that? It has Retina, Fast SSD, Fast 2,8 Ghz dual core i5 etc etc. Or is it that Apple want's me to move to the new Macbook's?

Found more horrible UX in Notification Center. The first time I got a "time-sensitive" notification (from Reminders), it had the "Do you want to keep time-senstive turned on?" prompt and buttons tacked onto the bubble. Clicking my choice (yes, leave them on) did nothing visible at all. Click, click, click, just a brief color change of the button but no other apparent action. When I moved the mouse off the notification, the whole thing self-dismissed. Who over in Apple's UX groups could possibly think that's good behavior?

Looks like they removed the bluetooth debug menu, shift + option. Anyone know how to get it back? Thanks!
