Sheesh folks, get a grip. ENOUGH with the emoji bitching. Its been explained way too many times that this 1) isn't how standards work -apple isn't creating these, just adding them as approved, and 2) certainly do NOT have folks pulled off systems development teams to do this.
Out of 13 comments so far.. EIGHT (?!) have been about whatever deal you have with emojis pushing your buttons or something. take a break please. please. seriously. not funny anymore.
I'm guessing most of us would much rather read actual feedback and comments about the system changes... I'm especially interested in photos, music & the changes in the printing system.
Music (doesn't seem to have much in terms of changes here, still have an issue with importing mp3s to a new playlist and having them disappear until i do it a 2nd time, then its fine)
Photos - would love a way to search for unnamed faces, but found a nice script that helps with that finally. Recognition seems better all the time though of faces and objects. I did notice for the first time that when browsing the photos you get a little 'i' for 'info', normally the photo meta details, place and so on. and if the app finds something of interest in the photo it adds a pulsing star to the icon. for me, a cat picture when i clicked that, not only did it pull up info about cats, but correctly identfied the breed of my cat!

But they're not. So, they're part of the OS update changes and as so they are worth mentioning.

I'm genuinely excited to see Apple introducing new emojis, but I really hope they expand their collection to include more LGBTQ+ pride flag emojis to better represent people like myself and my wife.

It’s an update to Unicode and is not specific to Apple. Google/Samsung/Microsoft all do the same emoji updates, just at different times.
All devices need to conform to unicode standards which is what emoji are part of, otherwise you get seriously nasty bugs and potential crashes. This isn't just an Apple thing it's for every modern OS.
March through early June are the most stable release of latest macOS. Then it's not.
Apple doesn't make this decision it's up to the Unicode consortium (which Apple is part of but not the only member). Anyone is free to submit a proposal: https://unicode.org/emoji/proposals.html
Also us alien overlords. They only have those scummy greys, rednecks of the galaxy with all their abducting cows and probing and my space ship is not purple.
Biggest improvement seems to be updated Tranformer model for autocorrect and text prediction/generation. Should give a glimpse in to Apple gen AI.
I usually upgrade my Mac OS in March. Gonna update to Sonoma and the next version in Feb- March 2024.
I think we can agree that Apples emoji focus goes beyond keeping up with the emoji unicode standards... Memoji as one example... Im not sure thats a standard unicode thing? but please correct me if Im wrong...

Sonoma is a bug filled piece of junk in my usages of it
I think some are more tolerant of all the niggles and issues than I am

The updates are becoming quite absurd with each new release. Moreover, the requirement to download approximately 13GB for what are essentially minor updates is ludicrous. What exactly is happening here? Emojis, of all things? Really?

Sonoma on my intel and Apple Silicon Macs has been pretty amazing since release... I guess it depends on what software you use with it etc... I guess that way peoples experiences differ..
For the core OS and its functions I haven't had anything major at all... nothing that prevents me doing what I do.
I was thinking the same thing. For a website full of people who are throwing a FIT on multiple other threads right now about Apple "not complying with standards", there's an awful lot of complaints on this thread about Apple complying with a standard...
