Apple today released macOS Ventura 13.5.1, a bug fix update for the macOS Ventura operating system released last October. macOS Ventura 13.5.1 comes three weeks after the launch of macOS Ventura 13.5.

The ‌‌‌‌macOS Ventura‌‌‌‌ 13.5.1 update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Settings.

macOS Ventura 13.5.1 addresses a bug that impacts location services settings on the Mac. Mac users have complained since July of an issue with the location privacy settings, with the bug preventing them from accessing and controling location permissions for first and third-party apps.

Under System Settings > Privacy and Security > Location Services, macOS Ventura 13.5 had no apps listed, preventing users from accessing location services toggles or seeing apps that have access to their location information. Newly installed apps were also unable to be given access to location.

According to Apple's release notes, the macOS 13.5.1 update fixes the issue, so Location Services should work as expected going forward.

why was everyone up in arms about this? what app uses locations services?? If anything, it's a good thing apps dont know my location!
Apple states that it allows apps and websites to gather and use information based on the current location of your Mac. It only determines your approximate location using information from local Wi-Fi networks. It is collected in a manner that doesn’t personally identify you.

Hope this helps.

I feel like of all the software updates, I'm the most out of the loop on Ventura. I tried Stage Manager for a while and didn't really like it, but I haven't really taken advantage of any of the other features. What is the most exciting new feature that has come out of the mac?

Are there time when it is not free ever? I wonder why even bother mentioning that.

in case anyone actually wants to know, the update does indeed fix the Location Services bug. It took just about ten minutes to download and update. Never ceases to amaze me that Apple gets trashed on MacRumors for fixing something. Well, Apple gets trashed on MacRumors for everything doesn't it?
