in case anyone actually wants to know, the update does indeed fix the Location Services bug. It took just about ten minutes to download and update. Never ceases to amaze me that Apple gets trashed on MacRumors for fixing something. Well, Apple gets trashed on MacRumors for everything doesn't it?
To be fair there would be nothing to fix if they didn't break it in the first place.

Edit: I'm just stating a fact, NOT saying bugs should never happen since people seem to be misinterpreting it.

I don't think you're truly comprehending and appreciating how massively complex software development is, particularly in a connected world, with users demanding more-more-more... and things are supposed to never break? 👀
I didn't say that? You're reading too much into it, all I'm saying is that praise shouldn't be expected for undoing your own mistakes. That applies anywhere, not just with software development.

Obviously software is complex and bugs are going to happen no matter what.

why was everyone up in arms about this? what app uses locations services?? If anything, it's a good thing apps dont know my location!

In Ontario (Canada), the online poker sites such as Pokerstars and GG Poker need it to run their Ontario licence. Players can’t play outside the province anymore. (That’s a whole different topic to debate!)

The province’s lottery system - the OLG - also requires it to be able to buy a ticket online.

it's broken. do not touch! it broke the avira installation. now generates error logs incessantly.

Our Macs dont have gps locators, so is network location services that accurate?

That's not what's happening. Apple is being trashed for releasing 13.5 with the bug and having that bug in place for so long. The continued trashing on this thread is just the tail end of that.

But, it might be unfair to trash them for how long the fix took to roll out. We do complain about just how bad their testing is. So, maybe we should be happy - it could be the delay was caused by their desire to do extensive testing this time around. They clearly rushed 13.5 out the door without enough testing.

Did this break 1Password autofill/connection in Chrome browsers or is it just a coincidence?

EDIT: Weird, on my Mac Studio, both Chrome and Edge 1PW extensions failed to connect to 1PW. Had to reinstall both browser extensions to get to work again.

Back in the day, major updates cost money.
And you could actually buy them. Somewhere along the line Apple came up with the idea of making OS updates free - but for a limited time of their choosing. Thereafter, it’s off to the landfill for you and then the Apple Store.

Great job Apple, I can now see location settings BUT they somehow broke search within System Settings so I can't find anything else

No, it's not broken. Too late, I touched it and all is well.
It ruined a few things for me. The right to install software disappeared, also said that there is not enough free space on the hard drive, in fact there is more than 100GiB free. Restore from backup failed to start, Time machine said the disk or location from which the backups was made does not exist.
But some files are corrupted, they (pdf invoices) are not very important and can be recovered. I managed to replace the application that broke during the update a moment ago. No more shouting that there are no rights for installation.

//there have been updates before without such a result.

There was another anomaly, the finder claimed that I had two external hard drives with the same content and the same name. When one was disconnected, one disappeared while the other remained. but it lost its data. It must have been a quirk that disappears when the redundant disk is deleted from finder.

I'll leave the machine running overnight, in the morning we'll see what kind of fun we can have.

And hope that guy over at Apple forums who kept passive aggressively gaslighting users saying probably "feature change, not a bug" gets exposed and unmodded. Doubt that will happen though.

He only posted such opinions for a short bit - maybe two posts saying it wasn't a bug. I suspect he feels pretty bad, especially since he took a lot of heat on that forum.

So, he has been exposed and probably doesn't deserve a ton of hatred for trying to help and getting it wrong.

Oh no…. I’m installing and it’s looping at the apple logo. And now a black screen. And apple logo again. And resetting to the apple logo again…

And finally the login prompt.

That was weird and worrying!
It's always taken at least 3-4 boots to finally install on mine, and takes at least 30 minutes.

OK, weird thing, after installing at work while plugged into my OWC dock the whole time, I wasn't connected to the internet. I rebooted came back. Once is not a problem. Got home from work, joined my wi-Fi. No Internet again. Reboot again, fixes it. Just weird.

Took a while, but at least the issue has been finally resolved 👍🏻
Hopefully there are no other bugs or issues on this version..
