Silent update = Octoberish Skylake refresh & possible redesign

And you believe Skylake will drop in October why? Intel has not been exactly *honest* with its dates since before Broadwell shipped --- to hear Intel PR and investor statements, everything was on track for a wide Broadwell release some time in mid 2014, and even as that date kept moving later and the wide release kept shrinking to an ever smaller array of chips, the official statements about how everything was on track never changed.

Ordered the new $2,499 rMPB today

Was hoping they'd put Broadwell in, but I can't wait any longer. Been stretching this 2007 black MacBook for too long! I can't wait another 5-9 months for a new laptop. Pulled the trigger on the rMBP 2.5GHz / 512GB / AMD dGPU. Haven't bought a personal laptop in 8 years! (Been using work laptops Dell/Lenovo  ) Should be here first week of June.

Got AppleCare ($350) in case the screen coating starts peeling off or anything else. Also going to look for theft protection like LoJack or something.

Total price with tax, $3,111.

Yeah I updated my post. The UK page and the USA page are showing different specifications for the Display Output support. Apple slipping with their website quality control.

I just checked. The UK and the US website show the exact same specifications including the 4K.

Not sure if it's already been discussed (haven't looked back over 19 pages), but certainly worth mentioning. According to Apple's own description, the AMD Radeon R9 M370X can support up to 5120 x 2160 @60Hz on a single external display. That would suggest a DP 1.3 interconnect...

If so, that could mean a 4K refresh of the Thunderbolt display is in the works.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread, it can drive (2) 4k displays

I don't feverishly keep up with Apple product updates as I used to in the mid-2000s, but it's always great to see new hardware pop up.

Future Upgrade Request

The 15 inch MacBook Pro is overall one of the best machines a Prosumer can get. There is one upgrade that would make it even better. 32 GB's of DDR4 RAM. While 16 gb's does the job, when you start to work with large images, videos etc, 32 gb would be great.

Sure, that is where the iMac comes in but for someone who wants one machine this would be an awesome upgrade.

No Cuda and still Haswell....my late 2013 just increased in value :)

not decreasing as much is not the same as increasing.

why would Apple want to put in the most expensive and untested processor the month it comes out? plus they'd have to design the board for it.

32GB of DDR4?

Do you want to spend $2K on ram?

Yes, now they do. Check the screenshots I posted earlier.

What are you complaining about? Obviously Broadwell is not on the Horizon or they would have waited. If you have inside on info on when Intel will release the Quad Core broadwell chips, please share.

The Razor Blade 14 has 3200x1800 display(Not 4K) and is $2200 starting with 128GB of SATA SSD. The only thing the Razor has on the 15" rMBP is the GPU.

The Dell XPS is $2150 minimum to get the 4K display, and that's with an outdated dGPU, slower processor, and 1TB HDD(w/ 32GB SATA SSD).

No 4K, No HDMI 2.0, No USB Type C, no Broadwell*.

These things are disappointing to me for a £2,000 laptop. And there are plenty of laptops available in the market from other brands like Asus, Dell, Toshiba, and Lenovo that offer 4K panels on their 15" portables.

*I know this is Intel's fault. But Broadwell does bring 50% faster graphics performance and it would have been nice to have it. The Quad Core broadwell chips according to Intel's updated roadmap that was leaked earlier this month shows Broadwell Quad Core chips for Desktop and Notebooks are coming in June-July.

The most disappointing thing of all is this is the only update this laptop will get in 2015. We're only in May folks. As the newer stuff comes out we won't get it until 2016.

I just received my high-end Retina iMac last week. Does anyone know if there is any difference on this model other than the price drop?

32GB of DDR4?

The cost for 32GB DDR4 Ram is currently set at around $600. Obviously the configuration for a MBP 15 inch would increase the cost some but it shouldn't be a $1,400 increase. Plus the costs of RAM should be dropping by the time a new update to the MBP line comes out later this year or next.

This upgrade would mostly target those who do a large amount of Image and Video Editing and would benefit from the increase in RAM. My suggestion is for an upgrade feature not as part of the standard configuration.

laptop RAM? Plus this would be custom built in RAM, not regular sticks. And the apple pricing.

I was exaggerating, but even just regular retail for 32GB of DDR4 custom built you're talking $800-1000 probably just for the RAM

To The Apple Veterans: Generally how long will the older Macbook Pro 15 in. with the traditional trackpad be available for or will it be pulled from the shelves immediately?

Apologies if somebody already answered this but I'm due for a new Macbook Pro and I hate the new Force Trackpad.

Nice choice, but did you know that you can buy AppleCare from authorized sellers like B&H Photo, even if you buy the Mac thru Apple? The exact same AppleCare coverage you bought for $350 can be had for $244 at B&H (and Adorama). And depending where you live, no sales tax on the brand new 2015 15" rMBP if you buy through B&H or Adorama.

I have a refurb top-spec 2014 15" on order with Apple for $2719 plus Cali tax (coming tomorrow) but decided I'll return it and go for a 2015 model thru B&H for a net $45 increase (stepped down from 2.8 to 2.5 GHz, not a big deal).

I hear you, one can dream though. I just looked at some options and it isn't viable yet on most laptops using broadwell. Maybe with Skylake chip and with a price reduction in the RAM dept. I'm Intelligent Memory is doing some work on this front. http://www.intelligentmemory.com/

I think the point the other poster was making in response to your original angry rant was your current MBP is only a year old. Why are you getting so upset just because this update isn't for you? I never understand why people get angry? Makes no sense. It's not like you're losing money or got ripped off. Do you honestly expect outrageous and super amazing changes in a year? And as the other poster asked, do you really need a new MBP after just a year or were you just looking to join the Apple Rant Party here?

No but I expected something more substantial, maybe I was a little over the top but it's still disappointing, no Maxwell and no Broadwell, both of which I've been waiting for since I bought this one.
I like to stay up to date with the latest hard and in the case of an iPhone every second version.
I think I'll just wait for the reviews of this one before I make a decision.

Not everyone that buys these needs, or wants to pay for discrete graphics. For some, they simply want a 13" MBP with a bigger screen.

You got it... that's me[/QUOTE]
