I don't feverishly keep up with Apple product updates as I used to in the mid-2000s, but it's always great to see new hardware pop up.

I have the MacRumors mug in front of me right now:

OMG that keyboard on the new Macbook is atrocious!!! I hate it. I honestly thought some people here were exaggerating when they said it sucks but it really does SUCK. Too flat, almost no travel. Hard to type easily on it. If they ever implement that on the Macbook Pro I will have to get an external keyboard.

Funny how different we can be! My wife is with you - she hates it too!

One thing that really stinks about apple even allowing a 7200 RPM HD as a base option is that it stinks for buying iMacs in the used market because I guarantee there will be a bunch of Retina iMacs floating around with the base configuration in the future.

On the upside it a lot easier to find an SSD to replace that HDD than it is to find Apples PCI-E sticks at a decent price and size.. :)

LOL to apple shipping a Retina mac with a mechanical hard drive
...sad that the 13" has faster memory than the 15" which was released later no matter who to blame. I wouldn't have bothered at all with a refresh going for Haswell yet again. Say what you will, this makes the rMB an even better value in my mind, packed with at least a new proc, fanless design and competing against the 'ARM market effect.'

Ordered a new 15" with the M370X, I'll just take the hit when Skylake comes out.

Really hoping this 370X is going to bring a 70% boost!

Whats your alternative? To drop an extra grand for a terabyte SSD?

Fusion seems intriguing as a hybrid drive done right, a friend of mine also said its indistinguishable from SSD performance (unlike when I tried a Momentus XT hybrid drive back in 2010). It's really just that it's a ticking time bomb. Getting to replace a mechanical hard drive in that difficult to repair rImac I would imagine is going to be a PITA

And so the 15" MacBook Pro discrete graphics pendulum swings again. I seriously seriously seriously seriously hope that there are no heating issues or reliability concerns with this chip. I'm almost tempted to avoid any MacBook Pro with AMD graphics after the nonsense with the Radeon HD 6xxxM series chips. Then again, with the GeForce GT 650M on the non-retinas and the GeForce GT 750M each being the only discrete chips/machines with discrete chips that don't have issues of any kind or scale, I guess it doesn't really matter. Though I suppose it's only one of multiple reasons to skip this rev.

As for the iMac, anyone else notice that the higher-end of non-retina 27" iMac is gone? Sorta huge for anyone that wants to either game or do any graphics work without having to care about whether or not their software/games are retina-ready. I appreciate that this is to maintain price-point, however, I'd think that it'd make more sense to kill the lower-end model as customers gravitating toward that model would be less likely to have any limitations or concerns regarding compatibility with the display.

Still, it's good to see Apple finally being aggressive with its retina Mac transition. It has been one of the uglier transitions so far.

To The Apple Veterans: Generally how long will the older Macbook Pro 15 in. with the traditional trackpad be available for or will it be pulled from the shelves immediately?

Apologies if somebody already answered this but I'm due for a new Macbook Pro and I hate the new Force Trackpad.

They have already become hard to find, out of stock almost everywhere, no doubt due to Apple running the inventory down. But they should be available in the refurb section of the Apple online store for at least a couple of months, probably longer.

I have a 1 TB fusion Retina iMac. For everyday use it’s honestly not much different than an SSD.

The way I look at it IF for some reason down the road the mechanical HD part goes then I’ll have to decouple the drives and rely on an external for the bulk of the storage. The amount of money I save going with the fusion was way too much to pass up when I purchased it since it was on sale.

Apple Stores, they tend to disappear pretty quickly - I'm guessing they get sent back for recycling/new internals.

Your best bet may be through an authorised reseller who'll sell through any stock they have - possibly even reduced in price too.

Screw it. My next rig will be a Windows 10 PC with a refurb MB Air for the lighter work. I'm getting sick of Apple charging high prices with no performance upgrades. A year and a half later, they are releasing the same CPU/GPU? Give me a break.

is this right? If HDD component of Fusion fails, you can just rely on SSD?

I'm not at all educated on these Fusion drives since I was never in the market for an iMac thus far.

I don't plan on using the Returns Policy but I can return this for a full refund within 14 days even if it's been opened?

Also the Mac below is now for sale in the UK, 3 Year Warranty included.

Support for up to 5120-by-2160 resolution at 60Hz on a single external display (model with AMD Radeon R9 M370X only)

Not bad.

meaning that it will drive the Dell 5k monitor even if it has only one thunderbolt bus?

Can't believe they dropped Nvidia from the update ><. I think I'll wait a bit longer for them to upgrade to Nvidia or buy the previous gen MBP15 that has the Nvidia GT 750M 2GB, 2.8GHz i7, and the 1TB SSD.

I've had nothing but problems with AMD.

Seriously Apple, listen to your audience.
