Yes buddy, mine updated last night, had them connected to my MBP downstairs. Checked if they were updated in the morning from my iPhone... all set.

Unsure how to force it though.

Thanks pal.
I have mine connected to my Mac now (watching some You Tube) I'll see how things go overnight. It will happen sooner or later :)

Thanks again.

Just a quick question:
Did you have them out of the case when they updated last night?

Nah mate, I haven't used the case once, they're still in the box under my bed. Just had the APM dangling off my stand, they were connected to everything still. Mac was running in the background.

The first time around I was just starring at the firmware number on bluetooth settings, hoping for it to change nothing happened.

I believe the OS needs to believe that your devices aren't going to be used for a while whilst it undertakes the update. I'm guessing the last thing Apple wants is user wanting to use their APM whilst its going through an update and the user believing theres something wrong with them, pressing buttons here and there, disconnecting bluetooth etc. which may cause some issues.

I suggest just leave them for a couple hours with your phone untouched, see what happens.

Explain how it’s a nonsense comment. AirPods Max are literally a expensive piece of crap.
Hey man. We've all registered your opinion. How about next time you see a thread for owners of a particular piece of hardware you don't want, you just move along instead of coming in to piss all over it? There are people here looking to compare information about headphones they own. Unless you have something to contribute (and you don't) then take a hike. Nobody wants to hear from you.

I never use the case and mine updated themselves at some point prior to yesterday.

I haven't been experiencing the extreme battery drain some people have, but I've still been a bit disappointed. I'm definitely not getting 20 hours of use out of a full charge because I use them for maybe an hour or two a day and they have tended to lose upward of 10% just sitting between times I use them. I just charged them up to 100% today so I'll keep track for a few days and see if the situation is any better.

Thanks for the help. I agree, it does make sense that the update won't happen unless the OS picks up they are not been used in a while.

I'll leave them connected to my Mac out of the case, and I won't sleep my iMac, and I'll see if the update happens over night.

Thanks again for the help, appreciate it.

I too have not seen the extreme battery drain others are experiencing, but still lose around 8-10 percent or so over a 20 hour period, and that's with them in the case. Hopefully this update will improve the battery life when APM are not in use.

don’t worry, i own a sky blue and currently waiting for replacement because it comes with a crackling sound and squealed like mandrakes from Harry Potter, i swear you don’t want to hear it.
Same here (albeit Space Gray, but the color is surely irrelevant): faint crackling from the left speaker at every slightest movement of my head, and the most horrible noises from the right speaker on four occasions so far.

Restarting the AirPods Max did not solve either problem. Resetting them to factory defaults banished the horrible noises (at least temporarily), but not the crackling.

The crackling is still present today even with the new 3C39 firmware. I'm going to have to get these replaced.

They look gross, but there are aftermarket "skins" out now which would mitigate this. I don't use the case much so I hadn't noticed.
It got clear plastic covers for them since the clicking was driving me crazy. It like a cheap clear phone case. I had to borrow out the holes a bit to open the controls a bit better. I am considering the water field case so I can put them down and in sleep mode without the bra and take the covers off.

Thanks. Any tricks to get it updated for you? I feel like I’ve try everything that was recommended.
Interestingly, I didn’t do a single thing! I missed this thread yesterday and didn’t realize there was an update until this afternoon. Then I looked at my firmware version only to see it was up-to-date (3C39)! I haven’t charged them since over the weekend. Now that I think about it, I had just done a hard reset of my iPhone prior to checking though, so perhaps that could’ve triggered something? There’s no way to know for sure because I hadn’t checked the firmware version prior to doing the reset.

Mine updated yesterday after listening to music for a few hours then laying the headphones next to my iPhone. I checked in few hours and they had updated.

After the update, I’ve listened to them a few hours yesterday and today and don’t notice any difference in sound quality and ANC.

I never experienced the battery drain issue so battery seems about the same to me. I lose around 10% or so daily when not in use.

The connection seems a bit better but still not perfect. Before the update, I would get stutters sometimes when pausing and restarting music, stutters when music would start after asking Siri something, and for some reason I would get stutters after using the Amazon app. Since the update, I don’t seem to get stutters after using Amazon but still get a few stutters after pausing and after asking Siri. Doesn’t seem quite as bad as before though.

Updated yesterday. 24 hours later, they did NOT lose a single percent. Still at 97% after 24 hours in the case. On previous software version i would lose 10%+ overnight consistently.
I see this too. I sure look forward to the update!

I have had that in the past but my pair still lost 4% overnight after the firmware upgrade. I have also seen more drain overnight when in the case then when not. I’m going to restart all my devices post the firmware upgrade to see if that makes any difference.

That's encouraging to hear and that was my experience too with around 8-12 percent drop over a 20+ hour period while in their case.

Just wish mine would update, tried everything to force an update, including leaving them out of the case right next to my iPhone overnight, but still no update as of yet.
