Apple today released new firmware designed for the AirPods Pro 3 and the prior-generation AirPods Pro 2. The AirPods Pro 3 firmware is 8B30, up from 8B25, while the AirPods Pro 2 firmware is 8B28, up from 8B21.

There's no word on what's include in the updated firmware, but the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 are getting expanded support for Live Translation in the European Union in iOS 26.2, which is being beta tested and is close to release.

The firmware could be related to that upcoming functionality, or it could add bug fixes and performance improvements.

To install the new firmware, make sure your AirPods are in range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. From there, put your AirPods in the Charging Case and connect the Charging Case to power. Keep the case closed and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware update to install.

Does it fix the white noise though….
Maybe not exactly the same, but I’ve never had any issues with my Pro 2’s prior to the 8B21 firmware but after updating, an odd humming noise/sensation issue was definitely noticeable, but not always. Particularly when I’m transitioning between audio streams and the earbuds are just sitting in my ears without playing anything. Very annoying.

🤔

I wonder why they never say what these updates do?

I mean they implemented the thing where they force app developers to make statement with app updates - even though what I mostly see in the update notes is 'bug fixes and improvements'.

I bet transparent Liquid glass airpods would look actually awesome. (sorry, just woke-up and the coffee hasn't fully hit yet. Ignore my weird thoughts)

My current Pros are starting to have charge issues, so, I am trying to decide if I pull the lever on a new set. This talk of static above worries me a little.

No. Its the hardware issue. They saved money in Airpods Pro 3 and iPhone 17 Pro (Max) by not using proper shielding therefore the crackling white noise happens.

The iPhone 17 models have this when its plugged into a charger.
Is that just the Pro Max model? My girlfriend just bought a 17 Pro and we haven’t noticed this issue. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, of course.

As far as I know ALL iPhone 17 Pro (Max) have it. the noise emits from the bottom speaker when it is charging. It is most noticeable when its plugged in with USBC and above 80% or 100% charge and you use any intensive app (for example scrolling through Instagram feed) or even without you will hear it. Sometimes its loud sometimes not.

Try it and place your ear to it.

Pretty sure all of have it.

Recently bought 10 devices Max models
all of them had it.

Whats yours?

The biggest feature they could add to this is a way to manually update them when you want to moving forward
I'd go further than that. I want one central location where I can view every Apple device on my account with the ability to update them all instead of going to each device. That includes things like the Apple TV, AirPods, or even the Apple Pencil.

Something sort of like this would be nice, it would be a massive quality of life improvement.

Has there ever been a firmware upgrade to the original Airpod Pro? I have had issues with mine since I bought them when they first came out. if I apply any pressure to the left pod (like leaning my head against a pillow) it squals like a pig. Has anyone else had this issue?
