Apple today debuted a new firmware update for the second-generation AirPods Pro, marking the second update that the earbuds have received since their fall launch.

The existing 5A377 firmware has been updated to version 5B58.

There is no word on what features might be included in the refreshed firmware, so we don't know what's new. Apple also does not provide instructions on how to upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air while the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ in the case, connecting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to a power source, and then pairing the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to an iOS device or Mac should force the update.

You can check your ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌ or ‌‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ firmware by following these steps:
  • Connect your ‌‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌ to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌.
  • Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
If we learn about any features in the firmware update, we'll update this article with details, but the software likely offers only minor bug fixes.

Wow, an early start on making ANC worse!

RIP excellent ANC. Gone too soon again
Have you installed the new firmware? Have you read articles indicating this new firmware is the disaster you are indicating? Or are you just playing games with people? I returned the first pair I ordered, hoping to buy again if some of the issues are fixed. But you are indicating that it's worse now, so I shouldn't buy. Should I listen to you guys? Can I trust your comments? Thanks.

Curious if anyone has had issues with the ANC in the airpods pro 2's in general since they got them. I can only compare them to my old beats studios but when I have ANC on while on the subway they make me feel nauseous and a bit of a headache. The beats when I first got them used to give me headaches after awhile but don't recall getting the nauseous feeling.

I guess I might just be one of those unlucky people that are sensitive to ANC but the pro 2's seem especially bad so far. :(

Will this fix the horrendous background noise when using these for phone calls? Everyone complains that they can barely hear me talking but can hear everything else extremely loud instead. Also had this issue on the first gens.
This. I cannot make phone calls with my AirPods Pro at all from my son’s football practice for example. People on the other end cannot hear me over the amplified background sounds.

I'm taking the piss. I have no idea what's changed with this firmware update.

hope it fixes the anc issue where when it announces text it has extremely low volume even when volume is high and notification volume is high too
