Will this fix the horrendous background noise when using these for phone calls? Everyone complains that they can barely hear me talking but can hear everything else extremely loud instead. Also had this issue on the first gens.
What is the source of that noise? By most accounts and by my experience, the microphone noise cancellation is much better in the APP2 than the APP1. Ambient noise like water running, chip bags crumpling, TV sounds are suppressed. If the problem is noise from wind hitting the microphones, I'm not sure that can be suppressed since it is non-directional. Have you tried any tests with Voice Memos to see what is working and what is not?

Post reviews guys!.
I am really afraid to update. By experience, the ANC has been weakened by each firmware release in the older earphones (pro and Max). So I don’t want to “update” for vague definition of “improvements”.

I would love to know the reason you believe Apple is deliberately making a core feature of their products progressively worse over years of firmware updates.

Complaints about firmware reducing ANC have been going on since ANC was a thing, in Bose and Sony products as well. Bose thoroughly disproved it and showed it was because of false attribution and damaged earcups. Likely psychological adaptation is playing a big part.

I don’t think you have a choice. Unless it never connects to an apple device.

So, from what I can tell - this latest update for my AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) seems to have actually increased ANC to a noticeable. It also seems to have some noticeable but small negative impact on music sound quality. This being said, it's not much of a difference, just a bit and I believe I can tell.

Otherwise, in other modes - the audio is quite excellent and I'm enjoying the bass more. 50% of this is pure bias :)

I honestly just hope they connect more regularly and easily and not have random difficulty connecting and playing audio during normal use scenarios.

Apple today debuted a new firmware update for the second-generation AirPods Pro, marking the second update that the earbuds have received since their fall launch.

The existing 5A377 firmware has been updated to version 5B58.

There is no word on what features might be included in the refreshed firmware, so we don't know what's new. Apple also does not provide instructions on how to upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air while the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ in the case, connecting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to a power source, and then pairing the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to an iOS device or Mac should force the update.

You can check your ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌ or ‌‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ firmware by following these steps:
  • Connect your ‌‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌ to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌.
  • Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
If we learn about any features in the firmware update, we'll update this article with details, but the software likely offers only minor bug fixes.

I’m putting my APP2 in a faraday bag.

Any and everything that's around. I've been told that it sounds like I'm face deep in my keyboard when I'm just sitting normally and typing on my laptop, and that it sounds like i'm walking down the middle of the highway when i'm just standing on the corner to cross the street. When I'm handheld and the other person is using their APP1's, it sounds like they crumpling up a bag chips directly into the headphones when in actuality the bag is nowhere near their head.

With my personal experience APP1's and 2's have both been terrible phone call headsets, but amazing headphones. 🤷‍♂️

Still update is forced as it’s done automatically and user has to use device as Apple plays it?

I think I bought AirPods Pro Gen1 but looks I rent it as twice ANC was nerfed and it’s not the same device.
Same were with microphone which was muted out of sudden when car went close.

My guess is with AirPods Pro Gen 3, this latest gen will be nerfed as well months before.

Really Apple, let us disable damn updates for utilities

I wish Apple would introduce a forced update method. Hopefully, this update doesn’t break anything. I have been happy with mine thus far.
Or better yet the option to force update and the choice to not update. I've found over the years that if something ain't broke.....

Curious if anyone has had issues with the ANC in the airpods pro 2's in general since they got them. I can only compare them to my old beats studios but when I have ANC on while on the subway they make me feel nauseous and a bit of a headache. The beats when I first got them used to give me headaches after awhile but don't recall getting the nauseous feeling.

I guess I might just be one of those unlucky people that are sensitive to ANC but the pro 2's seem especially bad so far. :(
When I tried the APP2 for a week I did notice the ANC does create some pressure which can be a little disorientation (off balance) when moving around. Didn't make me feel sick but I noticed it when getting up from sitting, briefly.

Some of the early BOSE headphones with ANC had a similar feeling, a little like your head is in a bucket.

ANC on the APP2 is fantastic. but its detection is not as good, for some reason...theyʻll sometimes not detect that theyʻre in my ears...

is it just me or is the sound stage a bit worse, the highs and treble is even lower now

I purchased the iPhone 14 pro Max, AW Ultra, APP2s this rollout and the 2 main bugs I have left are the panning with the APP2s and the stutter in the swipe up animations on the iPhone 14 pro. Doesn't sound like either will be fixed anytime soon. Not showstoppers but subtract from the overall smooth experience I expect from Apple products. The Ultra has been great BTW.

I've reported a specific issue to Apple that the ANC allows high frequency sounds into the ears. The gym I go to plays the radio at about 60db (measured by the db app on my Apple Watch) through low quality speakers, and I can hear everything above the music that I'm playing from my Apple Watch or my iPhone . I've had to resort to using ear defenders which takes those sounds away. I've noticed this elsewhere too in other situations.

I do understand the need to allow people to be alerted to fire alarms, etc, but it would be so easy for the adjustment to be made, to make the experience some much better. These alarms would certainly still be heard anyway, I'm sure.

I very much hope that Apple has done something about this, because otherwise the AirPods Pro 2 are excellent. The sound quality is a big leap above that of the original AirPods Pro, I like the volume control on the stems, and, mostly, the ANC is excellent, except for the higher frequencies.

I wish they would put out a fix or an update or something for the constant notification of AirPods Pro following me when they’re mine

I will be so upset if Apple reduces the performance of ANC in the AirPods 2. I flew cross country a few weeks ago and I'm telling you, these things ROCK on airplanes! Way better performance than my Bose QC35's and 700's! Way better. I couldn't even make out what the flight attendant was saying ;)

Update hasn't taken on my APP2. Have them connected via usb-c to lightning from my M1 Max MBP. Taking them out from time to time and listen to something with hopes of it kicking in the fw update. Also hoping paying double for the colorware version doesn't bite me in the ass...
