Mine took weeks to get the .276 update. I'm the only one in our family that's gotten an AirTag, and everyone else is still using Tile (I moved my Tile to my laptop bag). I'd like to see family sharing, too, for when we get more. My biggest want right now is a louder speaker (Tile is very loud by comparison) - I had to find my keys one night using Find My, and it kept going in and out of range. It was in our garage, on the seat in a vehicle, and precise location eventually helped me find it, since the speaker isn't very loud.

Anyone else annoyed by the lack of family sharing & overzealous stalking notifications for airtags? My kids complain they go off in class, & I can't find my other car keys because the airtag is my son's. We need family sharing now! This is just silly. The stalking features should be turned way down. How about 24 or 48 hours? If someone wants to stalk you they won't use airtags! It would also give you a little time to find your stolen items before the thieves are notified there is an airtag they need to destroy.
Doesn't annoy me and they've been clear about this from the very beginning.

They're not meant for tracking people, they're meant to track your personal items and family members can turn off the 'stalking' notifications permanently; they're not meant to track stolen items, etc. Sure, if someone wants to stalk you then they won't use AirTags... but given that Apple has created them and have put their logo on them, they probably don't want to be involved in stalking cases.

Here's an idea: instead of wasting your time posting here, use it to purchase one of the myriad cheap devices on Amazon to track your kids & items you think might get stolen.

The best feature of AirTags is the 'Left Behind' function coming with iOS 15, especially as you can exclude certain 'safe' locations. Tracking stolen items or other people is of no interest to me.

Hope the whole thing becomes more reliable. I just had to restart my iPhone to be able to play sound or track my Airtags. Got the error my Airtags could not be reached for days.

I want to second, third, fourth... the need for family sharing. We have only one and will not be getting any others until this is possible. Also, my mom was trying to decide on trackers to help my dad keep track of some of his items. She can't help him the way she'd like without sharing. Lost sale. This is such an obvious feature that is lacking.

Ha. Mine never updated to the previous “new firmware.”

Mine did update from the original firmware but are on 1.0.276, not the

Agree w Sparkinstx above, they are quiet. Louder than 1st gen tile but still too quiet for my weak non amplified ears.

Since the AT uses the rear shell as a speaker diaphragm, it is susceptible to pinching which cuts off output.

If you put the device in a wallet, its originally quiet tone is drastically muffled but if squeezed just by the weight of the wallet, the sound is almost imperceptible. (But for folks with newer iPhones with the U1 wideband chip, the pointer function is probably adequate to overcome the speaker deficit.

I am guessing it's just a maintenance release.

With iOS 15 adding much needed Separation Alert, Family Sharing next? With Apple's pro-privacy stance, Location History is probably not happening anytime soon.
"Pro-privacy stance" is very different than "pro-privacy marketing".

Yes, Apple is perhaps more privacy-focused than (some) others on the spectrum of overt invasiveness, but let's not pretend, fool ourselves, or attempt to fool others that Apple has a vested interest in privacy when it contravenes their financial interests.

Definitely need family sharing. Can't find your keys? No, your family isn't allowed to help! It makes no sense. But keeping track of your family members via their phones? Stalk away!

They must make a wallet version of this... as the wallet is the #1 item we need this for (well, millions of us, anyway).

Yes, Apple does collect personal information. The most notable example is Personalized Ads, which affects ads on App Store, News, and Stocks apps. I believe this is an opt out setting, which supports your assertion.

When I said pro-privacy stance, I was implicitly referring to AirTag's anti stalking feature. Location History goes a long way toward aiding the stalker.

To get your AirTags to update place them close to your phone while it’s charging at night. Most of mine auto-update on their own because they are in range of my phone. I keep one in my wallet, one on my key ring and one in a bag I keep my toiletries in. All are close to my phone at night. I keep one in my car and in my laptop bag and if I don’t bring those in by the phone for an extended period of time they don’t update. Apple needs to give us a way to force an update and monitor the progress. Auto-updating is nice but it doesn’t work.

If only you knew what the features and capabilities were before you bought the device. Shame on you Apple!

don’t be upset if it’s not working the way you want if you’re using it outside of designed use!!
No company can predict how people would use the tool created in “incorrect way” beforehand. This is exactly when it happens.

I’d say don’t get angry at people using the tools in the unintended way.

AirTags drain my iPhone’s battery exponentially via the Find My app. Until that is fixed, it stays in a junk drawer.
Just out of curiosity, how much battery is Find My sucking up on Settings | Batteries report? Mine reads 2%, which isn't great but hardly exponential.

Its odd to me that I can go to the the "find my" app and see everything from my wife's watch and phone to kids ipads. But my wife cant find her own Truck keys in the find my app herself, which she resorts to asking where my phone is and clicking the page button. Annoying!

I was really hoping to use these tags to track courier parcels to & from clients. Would have been great, but now it’ll just freak out my courier driver.
The worst thing though, as you stated, this anti stalking thing will likely notify a thief of the tag, possibly before you even know your property is stolen.
They should give minimum of 24 hours before each person receives an alert. 8 hours doesn’t even give you time to return home from work to discover you’ve been robbed.

Who said they’re being used to track people?

Not meant to track people. Yet they implement a bunch of counter-measures against people tracking. What’s the deal? It’s obviously very good at tracking people if they need to implement these counter-measures. Absolutely nothing wrong with sticking one in your toddler child’s pocket. If that labels me a stalker, then so be it. If you need extreme privacy from your family and spouse, then I don’t know what to tell ya. Family sharing is a huge miss on this product.
