Yes, it is great. More and more pilots in our airline have an iPad or are planning to get one. Initially, myself included, people had doubts because of the lack of a front facing camera, which would be useful for calling home with Skype while one is away somewhere in a hotel.

But the plus point: the iPad is great for our manuals. Works much faster than a conventional eBook reader with huge .pdf files and lots of illustrations.

Our Fleet Manager is eying the possibility of equipping all our aircraft with iPads for the daily manuals. He even suggested to write to a software company so they could deliver an app for performance calculations. The laptops we are using now are all clunky pieces of crap. But I am not holding my breath here ;)

Personally I am using it also for my pre-flight briefings. There is a great app for that: ForeFlight. Very efficient, easy to use and what ever I need (weather, airport facility status, etc) is all there. Neat Stuff!

I've played with ForeFlight Mobile HD, and still cannot believe that this amazing app is free!

I have friends who are also pilots, who've been using ForeFlight Charts and Navigation for iPhone - likely to be ported to iPad soon.

It would be great if your Fleet Manager, and others, were to follow suit, in ordering iPads for all - searching through manuals and zooming in on diagrams, maps, charts, and details, must be a breeze.

A wonderful occupation you have!

Life-long stigma for having worked for or at MSFT? What world do you live in?

Your equating this to employment?

Certainly, not in that world.

Didnt you get the memo? A kid getting paid $20k to star in a MSFT commercial that by most accounts have been universally praised carries a lifelong stigma and is considered child exploitation.

But working in a factory doing actual physical labor making phones isn't.

I'm just trying to get where you're coming from. Do you think it's some shame for a person to be employed for MSFT?
If being employed by MS entails being broadcast nationally as an "isn't Window's cute" icon, then I kind of do.

For a young child in the midst of emotional development, this kind of thing can carry a stigma, on several levels.

Yeah, I'm sure you'll be footing her potential analyst sessions, once she gets, well, beyond... 4½.

I was working for a piano building company at 15.

Pianos tend to be somewhat heavier than hand-held electronic devices.

Obviously, Apple cares nothing of any of you geeks' opinions on their advertisement since they make lots of money from the marketing strategy that you marketing geniuses don't like.
