Why do people have this view? It's moronic.

1GB>>Better graphics card unless you are a gamer, in which case you aren't buying a Mc . More RAM allows you to multitask better and for the 99% of MB owners who don't game it is far more useful.

Hmm graphics card or expensive RAM from Apple that I can get 1/3 the price from crucial or newegg...thats a tough one  - I have 2gb of RAM in my macbook, but the video blows...

Then answer this question: if integrated graphics is such a good thing, why doesn't Apple use it in all their products?

Because obviously for professional video editors and stuff they need a high end graphics card, I agree with that.

The reason the Mac Pro and the MBP haven't got integrated graphics is that they do drain the performance of other parts of the computer as they share the RAM. This wouldn't change by upgrading the graphics card to a X3000, and at a consumer level the performance hit is negligible.

IMO I think the mac mini is completely useless!

I'm probablly going to get flammed for this, but Apple should ditch the Mac Mini. It doesn't come with any Monitor or anything, for a little more you can get the imac which is about 50% better all around and comes with everything you need and more. isight for one thing... anyway

this has nothing to do with the MB upgrade, but... Mac Mini's suck. do away with them! or offer a 17" ACD with them for like 100 more bucks.

This was a stupid rant.

680$CAD for the base Mac mini vs 1100$CAD for the base iMac. That's 60% more expensive, which is quite above "a little more".

Remember that most people who buy a Mac mini don't buy an Apple Cinema Display at the same time, it's for switchers or people who already have a monitor.

im disowning this thread, i dont understand why everyone is whining.. BUY A REFURB MACBOOKPRO if you want the features + you know what you get a bigger screen!

I think the upgrades are good, but sheesh 64mb of integrated graphics? I like the proccessor speeds tho :)

Yes, you're right, that was a stupid rant.

The minis are still selling like hotcakes because people who want a new computer, but already have a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, want a mac that's inexpensive. Yes, you can go out and buy the low-end 17" iMac for "as little as" $300 more, but hey, to some that's enough to stop them from getting a Mac.

Why buy a $1000 computer when you can buy one for $600 and use the monitor/keyboard/mouse that you have?

Yeah, Apple should definitely listen to you and drop a product which is selling well.

And how many people vehemently defended Apple's choice when I pointed out that the GMA950 was a substantial downgrade from the Radeon 9550 in the outgoing iBook G4, despite it's severely cut down 32MB configuration?

There isn't space on the MB's logic board for a graphics chip in a 13" configuration anyway. The old Intrepid chipset in the 12" PB & iBook G4 was a single-chip solution leaving room for the FX5200/R9550, whereas Intel chipsets are all Northbridge-Southbridge configurations.

Don't worry. The MBP will have the SR chip, and probably be born with 2Gb of RAM (now the prices on RAM are so low). Why? Well it would seem stupid to keep the line at their current 2.33GHz max. when the Macbook now comes with 2.16ghz. The updates must come soon or the MBP will be the laughing stock when people start comparing specs, and wonder why you pay double the prize for what is now a much smaller difference then before MB update.

My main reason to upgrade is the LED rumour.

I can't wait to see the reactions to the MBP. It will max out at 2.4GHz (again only a 70MHz increase), OSX doesn't support Robson yet (but there may be an OS update), and a paltry 166MHz increase in bus speed.

The only things worth looking forward to are LED screens and a better GPU. And from what I have heard the LED screens are nothing to write home about.

I am just hoping for the MBP to get the user replaceable HDD like the MB. That will be worth it to me.

Consumers want simplicity.

I still think that Apple should make ONE MacBook.

Offer the Black MB specs, 1.5 gigs RAM and burner standard, with only the Hard drive size optional.

Offer it in two colors (allow for optional Apple skins).

Make it the best damn consumer laptop.:) :) :)

Get it down to $1399 and in the hands of teens (they will eat up Live Chat). Losing a little money is worth gaining Apple fans for life (hey... if people will buy an $1100 laptop from Walmart...).

Rule the consumer world!!!:apple: :apple: :apple:

Uhh... You ever heard of a little application suite called FINAL CUT STUDIO??? The ONLY reason I don't buy a MacBook is because it can NOT run Final Cut Studio. That one little reason forces me to spend almost $2,000.00 more.

That s PRO app, why would you expect it to run on a Consumer level notebook?

If you need to run Final Cut Studio you shouldnt be considering a MacBook

I've just compared the old clock speeds
See for your self:

More than likely, when Apple made the switch to Intel processors, there were probably stipulations such as "Apple shall purchase X amount of GMA 950 boards"

Congratulations, you've just killed MacBook sales.

Consumers want simplicity, but they also want flexibility. Consumers have simplicity in the MacBook. There IS only ONE MacBook, just with a few different configurations. Try going to any other laptop maker and see at least 6 completely different versions of laptops available.

Get it "down" to $1399? Fewer teens would buy it.

I thank god you're not working for Apple.

Wow

People get so angry online and on Macrumors, it makes me sad and disappointed in humanity. Everytime I jump to the end of the comments section in a new posting I almost always read angry comments with personal attacks....

Well, I must admit that I am quite relieved. I was having trouble deciding between a Santa Rosa MacBook or a Refurbished current gen MacBook Pro. Now that the MacBook is out of the question, I can just wait for WWDC and discounted Pro's.

No offense but the whole simplistic mantra of professional and consumer dichotomy is lame corporate speak. I am an artist and I like to use Final Cut Studio because of its creative power, but I don't make money of the program. I would buy the MacBook but the inability to run Motion is a deal breaker for me.

The minis are still selling like hotcakes

Since when?

Since they introduced them years ago. If they weren't selling well, Apple would have dropped them by now. Sales have picked up, especially since the introduction of the intel chip inside and the "switchers" have come out in droves.

Two colors... wouldnt that be....two Macbook. Oh and 1.5gigs is not a standard sorry.

At some point, people need to stop comparing the MacBook and MacBook Pro to 'every other laptop out there'. The claims that in months the MacBook is gonna look like crap because 'every other laptop out there' has Santa Rosa are unfounded. The claims that Apple is overcharging for 'yesterday's technology' compared to 'every other laptop out there' are also unfounded. Look at Dell.. Sure they just introduced some new Santa Rosa laptops, but their bottom end is AMD Sempron and Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo). Gateway still sells computers with P4s in them... *that* is yesterday's technology.

Apple's entry pricepoint is higher than these other manufacturers and that is an area where you can complain, but if you compare feature for feature the MacBook to things in its price range, it's really not a bad deal at all.

If the MBP gets updated w/o Santa Rosa, that would be a shame because like every other PC manufacturer, the high end should always have the latest and greatest, but this MacBook update is none to shabby.
I agree! Look some companies that sell this "high-end" technology at a lower price still sell Celeron so no one should complain. Yeah this wasn't the most amazing update, but June hasn't arrive yet and we still get some goodies, so get over it!

Now come on...

Come on now, people, everyone should know by now NOTHING MAJOR until AFTER the release of the iPhone.

So they threw in a faster cpu and more memory in the Macbook - that's all they had time for.

Don't look for anything new until the fall around October...

I'm surprised they did even this...

Well now I'm conflicted. I needed to order a new laptop, and technically I was waiting for the next MacBook update to do it, but this one is pretty underwhelming.

I'm fine with the processor speeds, but I want a better graphics card so that I can use Aperture again. Bullocks.

i have a 2.0 C2D BlackBook and Aperture runs wonderfully on it. Just get 2 GB of RAM and you'll be golden.
