Apple today released updated firmware for the MagSafe Charger that's compatible with iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models that have magnets inside. The new firmware is version 10M229, up from 9M5069. Note that in the Settings app, you'll see a version number rather than the firmware number. The new version is 247.0.0.0, and the old one was 174.0.0.0.

The MagSafe Charger initially came out in fall 2020 alongside the iPhone 12 models, and it has previously seen at least one firmware update.

Because firmware updates are done quietly over the air, Apple does not provide release notes, so we do not know what new features or bug fixes might be included in the software.

There is also no clear method for updating a MagSafe charger's firmware, but it needs to be plugged in and connected to an Apple device for a firmware update to initiate.

You can check your MagSafe Charger's firmware by following the instructions in our MagSafe Charger how to.

Update: Apple has also updated the MagSafe Battery Pack firmware. The build number is 2.5.b.0, up from 2.0.2c.0 previously. Use our guide to find your MagSafe Battery Pack's firmware version.

I had no idea the MagSafe charging puck was update-able. I wonder if this update will improve my Covid vax Wi-Fi connectivity?
You're having problems with your vax WiFi? I'm having problems with my vax 5G. Everyone said I was supposed to get 5G but all I got instead was AT&T's crappy fake "5G E", which is basically just re-branded LTE, and it's intermittent at best. Maybe because I have such a thick skull? When I'm not at home, how am I supposed to connect to FauciNet for further instruction?

I'm also not magnetic, which was kind of a let down because I wanted to be a super hero like all of those people posting videos online. I thought maybe the booster would get me there, but unfortunately it did not. However, I always know which way is north now, like a bird. So that's useful.

I just connected mine to iMac (running Big Sur 11.6.1) and it showed Version: 1.71 in System Information.
after a minute or so it was updated to Version: 2.47 without me doing anything...

I was today’s years old when I found out that this gets updates

I didn’t know these got firmware updates. Does anyone else have an issue where the puck is consistently warm even when it has not been connected to the iPhone for hours/days? I hope this fixes that.

Just like the other posts, once I plugged it into my MacBook Pro, it updated. I knew it did because it made a connection animation/noise like I just connected the adapter again

Such a bummer, as AT&T‘s 5GE is definitely not the good stuff, but you will still get FauciNet instructions, they’ll just be uploaded slower. Given you’re not seeing direct magnetism, but you know which way is north, you must have gotten the vax version that provides long-range global magnetism, which is nothing to be ashamed of.

A magnetic charger puck that gets firmware updates. You always encounter new things. Lets see it from the positive side. I do not particularly like the lossy way of inductive charging, but obviously Apple tries to make the best possible out of it. I own one of them - just out of curiousity. Using it right now for the first time since months to see the result of the update, as it is 147.0.0.0.
