Does anyone actually use these? If so, why and how to you like it?
It has some advantages, just popping a charging device onto your phone. It has disatvantages as well, as you easily can connect to a socket of a charger, because your wirleless charger device has to be connected to a charger first too.

I almost always use a normal wired charger, but, you know, try it and see, if you like the advantates.

Like many others I am seeing firmware 174.0.0.0. It looks more like an IP address to me than anything. I think I’m going to ping Support and see if they have any details about the firmware.

Well, you're right it could be an IP address*, but it would be a public IP address. So, coincidence. Private IP range in IPv4 Class B is 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255 which is clear of the 174... IP range.

*edit: i.e. this could be a valid IP address... ...technically speaking. But it isn't.

I've had mine plugged in for a while -- not getting the update. Even rebooted the phone. Tried plugging it into my MBP, and also into a 20w charger. Not sure why I'm not getting the update..

Same here. Still showing 174.0.0.0 ... and using this daily! "it just works" doesn't really work anymore lol

I am using a third party USB cable to make the Magsafe longer, connected to the Mac: when doing that, it was not updating. I plugged the Magsafe with no third party cable to the Mac directly and it was instantly updating it: the Magsafe turned off for a few second (the iPhone was not charging) then went back to normal charging.

Was wondering how I was going to get this thing to update when my MacBook is a 2015 with no USB C. I plugged it into my iPad Air 10.9" that has USB C and it didn't charge or pop up that it was connected in Settings > About. I left it for a few mins and plugged it back in to the power brick and it now shows 247. Crazy that it works that way haha.

Okay, so I can confirm:
- This does not work via USB-A -> USB-C converter when connected to a Mac (in fact, it doesn't even recognise it on either the Mac or the MagSafe end
- This does not work on a PC running W10

Guess I'm stuck on 174.0.0.0

You need an iPhone to update it.

WOW so I tested it and now the MagSafe puck works with any adapter to give full power charge. Doesn't have to be the Apple 20w plug. iPhone mimi seems to charge faster than before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
