Apple today released updated firmware for the MagSafe Charger that's compatible with iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models that have magnets inside. The new firmware is version 10M229, up from 9M5069.

The MagSafe Charger initially came out in fall 2020 alongside the iPhone 12 models, and it has previously seen at least one firmware update.

Because firmware updates are done quietly over the air, Apple does not provide release notes, so we do not know what new features or bug fixes might be included in the software.

There is also no clear method for updating a MagSafe charger's firmware, but it needs to be plugged in and connected to an Apple device for a firmware update to initiate.

You can check your MagSafe Charger's firmware by following the instructions in our MagSafe Charger how to.

Wonder if this means we can expect an update to the battery pack.

No one has tried connecting the MagSafe Duo to the Mac? No updates there?

Also, would like to know if that MagSafe Duo also shows in About as a poster has shown about the puck?

So does it need to connect to a Mac to get the update via the USB C connection? Or will it eventually also update while powered through a power brick and attached to an iPhone?

Probably requires/ appreciates a direct connection as two members are reporting update post connecting to the Mac.

Which seems weird, since I wonder how many people will ever connect this way? I have 2 of them, but both are exclusively used with power bricks. I guess I'll plug each into my Mac this evening to see if that updates them. I currently plugged the one I have with me directly into the USB C port on my work HP PC just to see if somehow that will update it....I doubt it, but just curious.

I don’t know why you would. Charging speed is greatly reduced from the already not fast fast charger.

Mine updated almost immediately after connecting it to my Mac.

Same here. Still showing 174.0.0.0 ... and using this daily! "it just works" doesn't really work anymore lol

I don't think there is an update for the MagSafe Duo as I plugged it into my mac and it won't update from Version: 1.86

Thank you so much for this information. Maybe, just maybe, keep it connected for a while? I am only hoping it enables faster charging for Watch series 7 if the hardware does not require a change. :D
