The fact you indicate resolution as a proof its better in a smart phone format means you don't know what you're talking about, especially in low light. In good outside light, the S6 camera is unmistakably better if you have time to set up the shot, but the time to focus (and shot to shot) is generally slower (especially in low light) than the Iphone 6 cameras.

By your measure, the Canon G16 at 12MP must really suck compared to the S6... A hint, it does not.
No, that's not how it works, and that's not what I said at all. I explicitly talked about the effective resolution, which is a measure of the details resolved in a picture. and not the nominal resolution. And it is unmistakably better than on the iPhone 6, just look at the pictures, it's better in bright light, it's better in low light. So it doesn't matter in the end what the exact pixel count on the S6's camera is, the pictures are better, and that's all there is to talk about. The often stated fact that the nominal resolution of a sensor is not indicative of the imaging qualities is not a dogmatic statement. It's just a reminder to look beyond that number, as sensor technology, sensor size, optics, image processing are all factors that are equally important. However, a lower pixel count doesn't magically turn any camera into a great one, especially as the difference between many small pixels and one big pixel becomes smaller and smaller with sensor technology improving. So you might just as well put more pixels in and supersample depending on the ISO used.

Well, Apple is really hitting a nerve with this ads, stating nothing more than the absolute truth. Fortunately the market agrees.

Soon the iPhone will be the pinnacle of consumer tech for a decade. Wow.

I just wish they would cut the base storage options and build a cheaper iPhone for the masses, with student discounts.
Apple, like every company, is in business to make a profit. Every company makes as much profit as they possibly can. If one doesn't like what is charged for a product, they can buy and pay less for something elsewhere.

If Apple didn't charge so much, they wouldn't be able to drive the tech market as fast as they do, and we'd all be still using the technology we had with the iPhone 2 or 3.

This is by far the worst Apple slogan ever... "If it's not X, it's not X". Really! I think even those Apple Genius commercials from a few years back were better than this :)
Are you sure about *ever*?

Seems you haven't been in the Apple family very long.. STEVE JOBS signed off on that slogan YEARS AGO...Wow that slogan just destroyed Apple .... Yeah right

I used to routinely maxed out my memory on my (64GB) iPhone. After getting match I don't try to load all my music anymore. I now have 22GB free. Next iPhone I only needs to be 32GB so I'll save $100 - more than enough for the $25/yr cost of match.
32 Gb would be too small for me. A lot of pictures, plus some music, plus some large apps...

I always thought the iPhone had an awkward camera placement. Placing the camera to the area where you keep your fingers isn't practical.

Commencement_UP_2015-WLA_5099_710%20(1).jpg
I have accidentally taken my finger when I want to take a picture for someone.

Plus that camera place is highly vulnerable from fingerprints, oil and sweat. This often happen when I play games requiring both hands to operate.

I have maxed out my 128 GB as well, with only 23 GB free. Half of the space is filled with music, and another big chunk is apps.

Other than that, nothing takes that huge amount of space.

I have been using iPhones since day one in 2007... I currently have an iPhone 6+ and I am a professional photographer.
My wife got a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge the other day...
We were having lunch, in the shade, and it was a super bright day with blue skies and some clouds.
I asked her to check the camera on the Samsung... If you know anything about photography, the situation is one of the toughest ones to photograph. Basically a person in the shade, with a bright background... I was literally blown away!
Not only the screen is brighter, sharper and more colorful than the iphone but the dynamic range of the Samsung blows the iPhone away by a huge margin.
Her face was lit normally and the background had a light blue sky and even the clouds were present. And this is not even on HDR mode!
I compared side by side the 2 phones and the iphone wasn't sharp, had no contrast and the sky was completely white and blown out. Even on HDR mode, the iPhone couldn't resolve the detail and dynamic range of the samsung.
I would NEVER own a Samsung, as phone, but I was extremely impressed with its camera.
So, Apple needs to step it up on the new iPhone 6s and 6s+. It's ridiculous to have a whole campaign about how good the iPhone camera is, when it actually sucks in comparison and it's years behind on Megapixels, F-Stops and Dynamic Range.

Its just that the statement worked 4 years ago. It doesn't work anymore, now.

Apple's ads are in general excellent, as is this one. There is a reason Apple is so successful, but the Apple haters will come up with stuff to tell us all why they are such a bad company. The reason that some people just love to hate and bash Apple, and who knows who else, totally escapes me. It's not a good or constructive hobby to have.

You've no taste.

"It doesn't work" for who... YOU? Do YOU speak on behalf of everyone or that's your opinion? Maybe you conducted your own focus group and need to share your *data*.

It sounds like you might loose sight of the fact that people (generally) in these forums are ultra passionate people who tend to think inward vs outward -- meaning one gets caught up in the ME moment and think that what works for ME automatically works for the everyone world. Guess what it doesn't.

Do you grasp that in just ONE YEAR Apple has literally sold through possibly over 250 million iPhones. Even if 100 million landed in the hands of NEW customers -- that's a HUGE tent and those NEW people aren't JADED like you or me that obsess on every single step Apple makes.

Clearly FACTS beat out your ME opinion since Apple continues to BEAT the dismissal drumbeat of everything "lackluster".

Clearly the iPhone is still, still a BLOCKBUSTER product in its latest incarnation -- no matter how you cut it. And being real -- the obituary for the iPhone was been re-written numerous times in the last 3 years and yet, yet it still climbs -- with or without these ads.

These ads serve ONE VERY IMPORTANT PURPOSE -- to tie the brand to LIFESTYLE. It more than succeeds since humanity has become OBSESSED with taking pictures as part of their LIFESTYLE.

I don't get it. Apple nowwhere claims it's a "professional" quality camera vs a camera that takes really great photos.

While there's no camera out there that generally works perfect in every environment - I don't think you can argue that generally speaking - the iPhone's cameras over time take pretty great pictures generally.

I'm shocked that your a "professional" photographer and your answer to better "quality" is only thru larger pixelated files only.

In the real world I have no expectations that my phone camera is a professional quality device that i'd stake my profession on. C'mon. Really.

The iPhone picture quality is generally more than sufficient for the MASSES. And yea in the scheme of things memory matters when MOST people using these devices have ZERO clue about "file sizes" and the "management" of such files. In fact most people are clueless. Apple is thinking about those people when limiting its MP's in its phones. Why else?

And..history is proving Apple successful by sticking to its less is more strategy when it comes to limiting its products specs and not feeding the tech industry's thirst for super spec'd devices. Hands down they've stuck to that strategy that time and time again people like you would scream that they would fail by not playing the "one up game" that drags their costs up and they're profits down and in the end gets them nowhere. Samsungs own spec driven model is falling them. Their costs keep going up and their margins continue to drop while iPhone still, still after so much vitriol like yours they keep bucking that sentiment.

One of my favourite iPhone ads! The arrangement of the phones visually is absolutely epic. Absolutely brilliant!

This is the real world, Apple and others share it, and competition is healthy for everybody.
I have been a full time photographer for 12 years and it is my living, so I think I am qualified to talk about photographic facts that are realistic and provable. I love my iPhone but I just happened to see a better camera on something else. I don't care about specs or numbers. I care about the results. I care about actual quality and the usability of a smartphone camera. People use smart phones not because they are better than point-and-shoots, it's just convenience. You always take your phone with you, but not your camera. Smartphones can't compare to a $300 point and shoot with optical zoom, bigger sensors and full manual controls, but you just don't want to take a phone and a camera in your pocket when you go to a concert or go traveling or see something on the street that you can just snap With your phone.
So, smart phone cameras are just convenience, again.
The Samsung S6, is just newer than the one year-old iPhone 6, so, as expected, the technology is better and the quality is too. Hopefully the new 6S is going to dethrone the galaxy with a better camera, better dynamic range and overall quality. We will have to wait-and-see. In the meantime, just look at the online comparisons between the two and you will see clearly which is better.
I saw for myself and really noticed the difference. Have you?
Remember, I am not talking about the phones as a smart phones, I am talking ONLY about the camera on them.

What? Ads are supposed to sell iPhones. This tagline is basically implying if its not an iPhone, its not going to be anything like an iPhone in terms of features and design which is not really an argument you can make today without people seeing through it. The only reason I carry my iPhone is because of its Apps.

Because the profits to executives are very enticing.
Cheaper camera = Lower MP and image quality = Lesser need for higher capacity storage chips to store them big photo

And both wins are for Apple!

Haven't seen this ad. The only iPhone ad I seem to see (over and over again where I live) is the one with the lesbians travelling to China.
Not sure how that storyline sells phones but whatever. I guess Tim likes it.

I'm sorry but this response is pretty asinine and makes you seem like a total arse. He doesn't mention anything about pixels until the end of his post. To dumb it down for you, he's basically saying that the Samsung camera took a better picture in a difficult lighting situation than the iPhone did. This doesn't likely much to do with the amount of megapixels so much as it does with the size of the sensor and the image processing software.

Samsung really upped their game with the S6's camera. It's capable of taking great photos and can be enjoyed by professional and casual consumers alike. Likewise, Apple will incorporate an improved camera in the next iPhone. Is your hatred towards Samsung so strong that it blinds you to this extent? I guess so.

Apple needs to hire some motion designers who know how to keyframe. That linear motion is depressing.

This ad doesn't really tell me why I should get rid of my LG G4 and get an iPhone, because it does the exact same thing. Maybe they need to highlight features other smartphones don't have.

This would be great if the iPhone had a decent camera instead of the 8mp since the iPhone 4S while the competition is at 16mp minimum.

No matter what the BS photoshoped "taken with an iPhone 6" ads says, which are impossible to have with such a camera.

Biggest misconception on the internet is that more MB is better camera.

I have swapped to Sony recently and my Sony alpha 7R being 36Mp vrs my sony Alpha 7S 12MP does not take 3 time better images ;) Both take brilliant shots, and the 7R cannot do what the 7S does, low light. So unless you plan to shoot all your photos with an iPhone is bright sunny days, I would not be asking for a high mp camera on your phone.

I would take lower MP, low aperture lens, low light capability over a high MP phone camera any day.

I felt like I was the only person who actually liked some of those genius ads when they came out. They were criticised harshly for making Apple customers look dumb—by people who can't laugh at themselves presumably! I thought they were charmingly tongue-in-cheek. I love the way the customer feels empowered to help the next guy in this one… It's just a split second's expression, but it says it all!

By contrast, the narration on these latest ads (not to mention the recycled slogan) is completely lacking in humour and charm. There is nothing in these ads that makes me feel positive or remotely excited about the iPhone, and I'm (mostly) a very happy iPhone owner!
