Puh-leez

Got the money, but for this? No effing way. Too much money for too little.

Really bummed there's no 7448...in fact, no change in speed at all (except the hard drive).

Talk about obsolete.

Well, with the latest and greatest of Freescale still on the launchpad, that would seem to indicate we will never see another G4 Powerbook, unless the move to Intel is seriously delayed.

Gonna be a looooong wait...

The Title of this thread should be Apple releases yet again another Stale and another 1.67 Powerbook. I would wait for Intel and tell Motoscale to stick to toasters and appliances.

this really isnt even an update its more of a sorry we have nothing better to offer you

This blow's beyond anything i've seen before. I wanted to get a 12" PB but of course they found some way to screw me over. Nothing update..nothing, and i dont wana hear..oh u got an upgraded HD. It's so dumb, I dont know why anyone would want Rev A Intel PB, if you do, please explain to me why. I was actually looking forward to the switch, but i'm not sure if i'm gona anymore. I prob would if they at least would have made a couple hundred $ price cut on the 12" but no. What is going on at Apple?!!!!!

Edit: Even more ridiculous is all they talk about on their PB page is the 15" and 17". SCREW THE F'N 12" WHY NOT!!!

I just bought one

Yes, I know these aren't the most spectacular upgrades, and the Yonah/Memrom-books are going to be way faster.

But I need a new laptop *now*. My 667 MHz TiBook was damaged a couple of months ago, and is now barely functional. But I couldn't bear to spend $2500 on a Powerbook that was last updated almost a year ago, so I waited. And I'm glad I did. Speed is not my primary concern... the 1.67 GHz G4 will be fast enough for now (although I am disappointed at the lack of the 7448 in this update, I'm sure glad Apple isn't going to be relying on PPC processors for much longer, as it seems like Freescale and IBM have no end of difficulties making improvements to these chips). What I really wanted was a brighter, higher resolution display, a better GPU, dual-layer DVD burners, and a bigger, faster HD. All of these issues have been addressed, so I can't complain.

I placed my order within an hour of the announcement, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the arrival of my second PowerBook.

Cheers

The PowerPC portable processor family has really hit the wall. Ridiculous. It's like somebody took Moore's Law out back, shot it, and buried it in a shallow grave in the Vegas desert. The sooner they can switch to Intel, they better and I hope they're working around the clock.

BTW to me it looks like they took the high end 15" from before (the 1.67ghz+super) and just dropped the price $300 and threw in an extra nice screen. If that's viewed as a price cut, that's a pretty major price cut. The former low end 15" (1.5ghz+combo) got the axe.

Oh, and it looks like the Freescale rumors have been disproven yet again.

Changed the hard drive ... added dual layer Superdrive ... lowered the price ... beats what was in the Apple Store yesterday ... and for less money to boot. Worked for me. I can sell it in a few months if all else fails. Replaces my 500 MHz TiBook. Most people are so far ahead of me till now, that I had to jump on it. :D

Yikes, I forgot: Never buy anything Rev. A from Apple.

It's gonna be a reeeeal looooong time...I dunno if I can wait. iBook? Feh.

Was the previous Superdrive dual-layer?

2005 POWERBOOK SPEED DUMP

So we're still at 1.67 gHz. Apple couldn't even give us the ATI Mobility 9800 for god's sake, if it couldn't deliver a marginally faster processor? I anticipated being underwhelmed, but not THIS underwhelmed. If we can get PCIe in the iMac we ought to be getting it in the PB for god's sake. Pathetic. Simply pathetic. Two thumbs way down and right back up Steve's ass. Jobs, you bastard!

But I've been waiting for two months, and two months is long enough. As disgusted s I am, my 15" PB is on the way. At least I didn't have to pay extra for the 128MB GPU, and at least I got the 7200rpm drive as a BTO option.

Hmmm,

Apple is replacing my powerbook after 7 repairs, and when we discuss the replacement it was the 1.5ghz 15", and he said id get a brand new right off the line powerbook. Im shipping my powerbook from ny to cali. tomarow, (or later if it would mean a hi rez model) would apple send me a 1.5 sitting around or a 1.67 new superdrive model?

The new model would be of course better except that my gig of ram wouldnt work in it.

WWAD-WHat would apple do?

.

How do you mean?

Also i have the most up to date powerbook (12in) before today what exactly have they changed? I'm not very techincal you see...

I mean the Rev. A MacTels are likely to have significant problems, just like Apple Rev. A anythings, so we'd be better off to wait until Apple works out the kinks before buying a MacTel Powerbook.

Which will be like, a year-and-a-half from now...F*&K!

I expect he means, to support DDR2 (and the increased resolution perhaps?) there would have had to have been a motherboard change.

Which hard drive

question...

smarter to get the 100gb 7200rpm or the 120gb 5400rpm? same price it would seem.

Depends on your use really, if it is mainly surfing, downloading etc. then go for the 120Gb 5400. Myself on the other hand already has a 12incher (oooerr) and find that if I fancing doing anything intensive then the hard drive churns a little and lets the side down.

So I opted to for the 100Gb 7200rpm drive, should be much sweeter.

What does anyone else think ?

Optical digital audio in/out on 15" & 17".....
Forgot about that one. For a price drop ... seems like a fair upgrade considering no new chips are available from Freescale yet and the G5s are still too hot.

Macmaniac said:
At least they lowered the prices. A similarly equipped 15in powerbook would go for $2700, thats a big drop today, and the specs are slightly better. So Apple did one good thing by lowering the price.
Got mine today for $1809 with 1GB of RAM. Woo Hoo!!

I knew Apple weren't going to do too much with Powerbooks. Why would they when Mactels are coming up?

I'll be waiting out for a 2nd or 3rd revision Mactel Powerbook.

I think we'll look back on this the way we look back on the 500mhz fiasco. We'll laugh nervously and change the subject.
