Had to send back my new 17".

3 nasty problems--backlighting, internet dropping, and buzzing on the screen--so I gave up.

This is my first experience with AppleCare. Not bad, overall, but I was annoyed he wanted to try thing like booting for another CD to see if the problems persist. "Uh, how is that going to fix a backlight problem?"

I hope they fix my backlighting and 10.4.3. fixes the other two.

Had to return my 15inch, network kept shutting down. It was so bad that it would lock the Mac up, had to force quit apps and reboot. Then it would work for another 1/2 hour then do the same thing.

Went for another and they were out! What a pain.

I'll be buying a new 15" tomorrow...but only because I spilled milk on my titanium last friday, and it was going to cost me 1K to fix it. Might as well shell out one more for a new one :( Stupid me

There seems to be a lot of problems with the new lcd panels. I've been reading similar problems over @ macnn. I hope apple fixes this problem soon.

Bought my new 15" to replace my old 15" 500MHz TiBook. Love it so far. Nice Look ... nice feel ... seems to have a solid battery life so far, though I have not run as much off the battery to test fully yet. Massive improvement over my old Ti. Only complaint so far is from using Classic mode for an old version of Office (time to upgrade). When typing in Word, some keys double-triple-quadruple type ... a real pain when typing. Doesn't seem to happen in OSX apps, no matter how fast I type, so it doesn't appear to be the keyboard. Plus it keeps crashing out of Word when I try to print. Good thing I have very few classic apps left to convert from. Peace gang and enjoy your new books.

FedEx has it out for delivery today, a day early! W00t!

I'm going to be mighty dissapointed if I have screen problems (or anything else for that matter)...

I'm sure you're REALLY thinking, "Oh DARN - I HAVE to get a new PowerBook!" I'm the type of person who loves such excuses!
;)

More real estate is always important in your line of work. So if you're staying in your studio a lot, I would say go for the 24" display. Since you can't take that with you though, if you are miobile a lot, the 17" might be your best bet... I wouldn't worry too much about the fatser HD, although it does make things snappier.

I love my new PowerBook, everything I expected. Not noticing any differences with 10.4.3.

Just installed an extra gb of ram into my new PB

So far as i can tell, this thing is pretty fast! I'm using the booth at the Apple store in mall, right now. I had one of those guys put in the ram (from Data Memory Systems) cause even if it's easy, I didn't trust myself! I wonder how different thing would be if I hadn't upgraded to 7200 rpm.

LOL. You wanted a new PB, you just could not justify getting one since you had a perfectly working one. When you have an urge, you usually find a way to fill it, and if that means accidentally spilling milk on your PB, then so be it :) It is a subconscious thing, you have no control…

I can't count the number of new cell phones I purchased because I wanted a new one, but could not justify it.... Lets just say I had a lot of dropped phones.

Did I happen to mention that I'm LOVING this new Powerbook? I hate the competitive side of me that's coming out as I sit in this internet cafe next to a guy with an older PB (dull looking screen in comparison, and his keys are black) and I feel soooooo cool! :p How childish. So far one of my favorite things is scrolling with two fingers - even if that's not a new feature. My lid is evening out a little, too. There's still a little gap in the front right corner, but it's not as noticable anymore since the front left corner has a small gap now - so everything seems more even but it's not like there's a big gaping gap or anything.

I also like how quiet the keys are when I type. Backlit keys are definitely cool. Wow I can't believe how bright and clear this screen is compared to the one next to me - it's amazing!

My only complaint at this time is that when i backspace, like a whole sentence I decide I no longer want, it takes a lot longer than I'd exptect a new PB to take (with upgraded ram and 7200rpm). I wonder if there's a way to fix that? Any thoughts?

Are you experiencing any network freezing issues like the rest, or have horizontal strips all over your screen?

You can try setting keys to repeat faster somewhere in System Preferences I think

Just ordered my 15" with 2GB ram, 7200rpm HD. :D

It's my first mac so I can't wait.

Congrats on your purchase - I know you won't regret it. :) And if you ever have any questions or need any help, just post here on MacRumors and we'll definitely be here to help.

Typing this on my new 15" now :)

The screen issues were a bit overrated, you won't see it unless you are explicitly looking for it.

I'm noticing no new battery performance whatsoever - perhaps even worse battery performance, about three hours with screen brightness low, no airport/bluetooth, no intensive disc access. Ugh.

Hmmmm...that's a bit disturbing! I haven't been noticing that the battery lasts very long either, but then this is my first lap top - i have nothing to compare it to. I hope others write in soon and share what they've noticed. I also haven't been keeping track of things though.

Hey - thank you - to the person who suggested I go to system pref. and change how fast I can back-space...it worked - so much better! This thing really speeds along in almost all ways!

Have you noticed that the position you carry your PB in (in bag)...

...affects how well your laptop lid will close later? As some of you may recall, my laptop wasn't flush when closed, in the right front corner, but it was in the left front corner. When I carried the laptop in my laptop bag, so that it was sitting vertically (tall), and deliberately chose the end to go down that I sensed would make an improvement in the way the lid closed, it did. When I later put it in the opposite way and walked around for quite a while downtown today, I noticed the right front side was back like it was before, if not worse.

Anyone know which way is the "best" way to have the weight laying on, like ways I described?

This is HORRIBLE - I'm getting about 2.5 hours TOTAL with fully charged battery, wifi on, screen dim and keyboard dim...with airport off I get 2.75 - honestly, should I take it into Apple and see if they'll give me another battery???
