Interesting, I guess this means Apple is going with Yonah first before Merom. I wonder how long Apple will keep the Yonah machines around then before they release Merom machines.. It will be an interesting year, that's for sure!

Maybe they'll keep the Yonah through 2006, and then go to Merom in early 2007.

Possibly, but I think that it would be good for their image, and with respect to this whole Intel switch, to move to the new architecture as soon as possible. Apple has put such a focus on this switch, that they now need to change the way they do things. If they are going to be implementing the same chips as PCs, then they need to keep more up to date. How would it look for instance, if Merom chips came out, all sorts of PC laptops had them, but Apple was still on Yonah? I think there would be some criticism over this. It will be the same with upgrades, too. As Intel updates the chips on a more frequent basis than Apple is used to, they will have to react faster. From now on, product updates, especially speed bumps, can no longer occur only once a year. It will be interesting to see if Apple is up to the challenge.

I can't understand why he hasn't responded yet with those screenshots... ;)

Remember the 7448 uses only half the power as the 7447, he must have melted his cpu into a block of silicon..

hold your horses

dudes and girls. hold on....
First of all, list up the benchmarks you want me to run. I´m not gonna download useless benchmarks, but if you find some sane benchmarks you want me to run, then you guys can post them and I´ll benchmark it.
Keep in mind, I´m not running a full 1mb backside cache, since the 7448 with 1mb won´t run properly YET! The 1mb cache version is 25% faster than mine. Also a tuned out 7447A/7448 needs more memory than stock systems.
Apple was going 7448 on the last pb update but it was pulled out in the last minute.

Anyway... I´ll get some real PHOTOS taken, with screenshots.
Until then, keep waiting...

Kay, can't wait to see those screen shots. :) All you have to do is the following:

- open System Profiler
- take a screen grab (cmd-shift-4) listing the processor speed
- post the picture here

It takes all of 10 seconds to do, so I'll check back in a bit to see if you've posted it yet.

And yes, other photos would be great to see, but for now, post the above since it is simple and quick to do.

 Hold on, maybe ive misread this but it seems like 0423379 is caliming to have a beta 15" PowerBook G4? How? Wouldnt he be under a NDA if so anyhow?

Well we will find out eitherway sooner or later then when the screengrabs/photo's get (or not) posted. If its true it will be interesting -- Especially with all the claims that the next updates for teh PBooks are going to be definatley 'Intel'.

Yes, he should be, and could get fined for violating such an agreement.

Yep. His next post will tell the full story actually. Either he posts pictures/screengrabs and demonstrates he is telling the truth, or he doesn't include evidence (perhaps even using this NDA thing as a lame excuse) which will be an immediate and undeniable admission of lying on his part. It's pretty cut and dried really.

I am eager to see these photos too. :)

courtesy of DS ?

What is meant by this ? Is he claiming that this is a regular shipment, like the mac mini situation or is this an actual beta ?

Can't wait to see these screen shots.

well

All I can say is, the next powerbook will feature 7448. Not sure tho, but it has been planned before, and probably will come through in January with the Quad revision. At the same time, there will be a slim iBook. Never heard of a cam on it. It´s also highly unlikely to put a such feature into the pb.

I´m not gonna get fined for posting a picture of the CPU speed. That I´m gonna check into BEFORE posting any pictures.
And I would be dumb to do so if I get some angry ppl on my back, same as I would piss off a few of you guys. :)

The 7447A is running max at 2ghz at the moment, it can´t get any higher speeds. the 7448 has some serious power problems causing it to be very unstable. It´s not even stable at 1.67ghz, where it´s 25% faster than a 7447A running same speeds. The aim and goal of 7448 is not the speedbump, but the increased cache memory.

I promise you guys I´ll try to get a photo for you. :)
And also, there won´t be any serial numbers of the computer posted. ONLY the CPU speeds....

This is NOT an Apple shipment! :)
As for speedbump if you got an ibook, get your hack so it´ll bootup as fast as the powerbook. it´s slowed down by firmware....

happy easter!

About battery life

Greenone said:
snip! Then this thread obviously addresses a battery problem, but I don't think anyone else has complained about their batteries (?). snip!

So my original battery was a dog - giving me at best 60minutes of estimated life, but dying after 30minutes. (Even after calibration).

Got a new battery from Apple, and it works life a dream - just testing battery to the limit at the moment - down to 3% capacity with estimated 9minutes of life. I'm typing in word with Airport on. So to extrapolate that is 300minutes =5hours. Seems OK to me :)

By the way, the proposed Intelbooks wil surely be nice when they arrive, but I have my Powerbook NOW ;)

Ok, can someon tell me does the new powerbooks have to have their memory paired?

Crucial claim that you can only put in dual configuarations (i.e 2x 512 or 2x1gig)

I wanted to just buy 1 gig and add it to the 512 already installed. Therefore have 1.5 is this possible anyone?

I'll be the first one to call BS on this whole deal. Sorry buddy........

There is no way you work for anyone related to Apple if you have to check on wether its ok to post pics. Definitely a little bit of a problem.

Bring on the intel PB's.

Yep, I agree. If you look back, I asked him to take a screenshot of his System Profiler earlier in the day to verify the claimed speed of his CPU, a simple task which would take all of 10 seconds, however he didn't. Instead he made some post with excuses in it. That was all the proof I needed.

Hey...hold on...anyone smell that? Oh, must be what AC_99 was talking about. Why would you even mention anything about a new PB if you were at all concerned with NDA/people getting mad? Maybe because you don't have a new PB.
