Liberal return policy? Exploit it. Immediately!

I'm waiting too! :)

There will be Intel Macs shipping by June 2006. However, we don't know, which ones.

I guess that's what we'll see in the MacTels.

Wrongo.

with the PM just being updated to the 970MP, a smaller form factor mac will be the first to switch.

An EE, will not fit in anything other than a regular old desktop, without a severe heat penalty.

That's why Steve is pushing for Intel to speed up development on the next-gen chips, because they're all based off the 'M', which will run in a small form factor without trouble.

7600RPM only available through the online apple store....

DAMN IT!!! What is most certainly the best new feature for the new powerbooks, a 7600RPM hard drive (making possible video editing without an external drive), is only available through apple.com not in the stores. Is there anyway to replace this drive by myself? Help please! I need one today!!!

Anyone who says they can wait until next year to get an Intel is honestly not in need of a pro-machine,because if you really needed it, you'd know months to wait is rediculous when you need it for computing now. Also the PowerBook won't be updated for a long time to come considering they can't really up the processor and Intel won't be ready with all the Pro apps for a while. If you can really wait that long, which may be over a year, then you really aren't in need of a Professional machine and are better off buying an iBook. Am I dissapointed with the updates? Yes and no, but it was updated a bit and now I am certain it is the best I can get for now. Before I was wondering, what if they update? I actually do need it for on the go video editing, graphics designing, and some other things. You people do what you want though.

Everything, comes to market eventually.

You'll just have to wait a bit.

I think the update is fine. As far as I'm concerned, 640k RAM should be enough for anybody. :)

No seriously, it's better tech for less money. The screen is better, the HD has more options, the supadrive is better. Only thing that's disappointing is that the speed updates have basically stalled. But that can be offset by maxing the RAM. If I have some spare cash I'll pick one up by the end of the year and hold onto it while everybody else deals with the Intel switch.

Is there a way for me to buy the new 15" at the store today, and then upgrade it to a 7200RPM later?

Cool indeed. :) :) I loved how you built us up thinking it was an ok release, and then you got us with the final line. :)

I agree with you completely.

well that's because I don’t have any PPC software to hold me back so personally I think as someone who has been waiting patiently for something from Apple to take on the Pentium M head on; the update somewhat blows. But for others. Yah. Its OK. Nothing spectacular but frankly I wasn’t expecting anything in the mobile line to be spectacular until 2006. :D

So you work for Apple now?

Consider the following.

1.Consumer level models will ship with Intel first

2.They won't release a PRO machine with not all the Pro software that people need. Then you're just better off getting a PPC.

3.It will be a transition...meaning not overnight.

You just answered your own question buddy.

Attention to detail.

'Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 featuring up to 128 MB shared graphics memory'
So how is this better than the Mobility Radeon 9700? Take a look at this http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20050524/vga_charts-02.html

The 915G is bottom of the list for PCI-express graphics (yes I know it's not the 915GMS but if it's even twice as fast as the 915G, it moves off the bottom, to second last)

igetbanned said:
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 is PCI-express based, not AGP. (you can add in a PCI-e card/dongle for dvi dual-display)
The PB supports dual DVI without a dongle. Edit: and how are you going to add a card to a laptop?

igetbanned said:
And yes, PCI-express provides better potential performance over AGP.

'The PCI Express x16 graphics interface delivers increased bandwidth and scalability over previous generation AGP8X-based solutions. With up to 4 GB/s of peak bandwidth per direction, and up to 8 GB/s concurrent bandwidth'

I don't make the news, I just report it.
Potential? Yes, but where's the real world gain? In the real world, the ATI x700 shows little improvement over the ATI 9700. Any there is is not worth getting worked up about.

I'm still waiting for an explanation of why PCI-express would be an advantage in a laptop, considering you can't actually upgrade to a different card. In a desktop, it's different.

You can upgrade cards in the top of the line Intel machines.

Two thumbs way up. My girlfriend got a 17" PB about 2 months ago, so this pathetic "update" makes us happy! Meanwhile, I'm still a bit sullen about the iMac update...

I'm surprised you're all not more excited about the 7200PRM drive..... this is a SIGNIFICANT improvement. ANyway, again, can I buy this new laptop (15") today, and then go to fry's and buy a hard drive to replace the one inside? Help please, I have a job starting tomorrow where I need this laptop...

Yes, if you replace your hard drive completely by buying and installing a new one.

This is the best update to occur for the 17" PB. I think I would be sad.

Buy your own drive and install it yourself ... cheaper. ;)
Off topic but...
I have honestly been looking for a solid guide to do-it-yourself upgrades on macs, especially powerbooks... but to no avail.
Does anyone have any suggestions/info/direction as to what can be done (memory, hard-drives, etc.) and how one should go about doing it.
... I really dont wanna mess up the new PB im getting :p

Yikes, I forgot: Never buy anything Rev. A from Apple.

No kidding. I got my Rev. A Mini back in, what, June? No wireless, and I bought a BT dongle for it that Apple apparently won't support fully. (says the hardware won't support headsets... but it does when I plug it into a Windows box)

Now it's got all kinds of upgrades for the same price.

I would be more excited if it was not a $200 upgrade
