Canceled Order

Has anyone looked at their order for the Dual 2.5, and seen that their order was canceled and then opened again?? I have 2 computers on my online shipping invoice now, one saying canceled and one being open. Not sure what it means. I won't think into it tho cause the shipping date hasn't changed.

I'm glad to see someone else's did that too. The exact same thing happened to me. I have two identical order on my invoice and one says it's canceled. That's very strange... any reason they would do that?

Check the detailed specs. They may have decided to do a silent upgrade of one of the components.

Same with me... I'm guessing it's because of the changed ship date. Don't know for sure, though.

Free express 2-day shipping until June 27

Interesting. Its neat that it applies to all macs and software from the apple store.

I know the car comparison is the logical one, (at least it was the inevitable one) but there's a little bit of a difference. Every car I've ever owned has had either a radiator leak or all out radiator blow. The car stops, but no irreversable damage is done to the engine or any other components. Put that same scenario into a computer with exposed and delicate electronics, and your chances of irreparable damage skyrocket. On the other hand, I've had computers where the fan goes out, the system shuts down, I replace the fan (cheap for $10-40 bucks when you compare it to upwards of $500 for an LCS) start it back up, and everything's fine.

Two things.

1) If you blow up a radiator it's not quite so harmless. People warp heads, crack head gaskets and such all the time- but if one is reasonable all this can be avoided. In computers it actually can be completely avoided with failsafe features that turn the system off if enough cooling is not available.

2) We don't know is how conductive this fluid mixture is. As I've stated before, there a PC geeks that submerge their entire motherboards for extreme liquid cooling! This mixture has water, but water alone is not a great conductor. Tap water, salt water, or water with other elements is more conductive. But mixed with other elements it becomes less conductive or if it's de ionized. (I did I science experiment on this back in 6th grade :D )
Until we know for a fact this is a huge problem, I don't see the need to make it one.

Check this out:
THIS GUY SUBMERGED A MB IN A BUCKET OF WATER!

I'm surprised, I thought that free shipping was an ongoing offer. I just wonder why all of these great offers are ending on June 27th. It is sure making it hard not to buy now with the $500, memory, and free shipping.

I can't be sure cause I have 4 cancelled orders long story - but I think this may be in the flood of calls about whuy we paid for an 9600/9800 XT card and the status showed PRO cards... that is the only change I've seen.

6 weeks to go

:D

Liquid Cooling

If a liquid cooling system were to have a critical failure and leak profusely I suspect the current design of the PowerMac G5 case would help to limit any damage to just the bottom compartment. Therefore your hard drives and expansion cards would probably still be okay. If your computer is still under warranty an Apple technician would clean up the mess and replace or repair any damaged components. If your computer is no longer under warranty you could replace the components at your own expense with upgraded components such as dual 4GHz CPUs(or whatever is available) and an improved liquid cooling system. In either case you are inconvenienced but your data is pretty safe.

Quite so. But I think they should include an elbow fitting and drain hose on the bottom of the case.

Otherwise the coolant spewing out the cheese grater holes may ruin your keyboard and leave a green puddle on your desk ...

How about a green puddle on your carpet? I don't know anyone who would put a G5 on their desk.....

Sweet Dude, Congratulations!

Why would they deliver on a Saturday?

Mine just shipped today and I expect it Moday or Tuesday...

CONGRATS TO THE G5 OWNERS!

Congrats -- you won't be disappointed. Slap another gig (at least) of RAM in there and you'll really see how a G5 was meant to perform.

FedEx Ground Treats Saturday Like A Weekday. :p Sacramento to Chicago is two thousand miles. Sacramento to Santa Cruz is about 150 miles.

Dual 1.8 & Dual 2 G5 Refurbisheds Still On The Apple Store Special Deals SAVE Page

Dual 1.8 & Dual 2 G5 Refurbisheds Still On The Apple Store Special Deals SAVE Page. Lower Left Red Tag Link. Scroll Down. NOT THE TOP. There is a Dual 2 G5 listing for $2299 on the top. Same thing down the list $1999. Dual 1.8 only $1799. The Single 1.6 GHz G5's for $1299 are all gone again. I think the Dual 2 is a better deal because it includes a better ATI 9600 Pro 64 MB Video Card and more than 10% more power for only about 10% more money.

Congratulations on your purchase. It sounds awesome. I look forward to hearing your critique. Fed-Ex seems to be a great delivery company, the Saturday delivery works well.
