Question, if you buy this Mac Mini but want to upgrade the HD yourself. Where is the recovery software? I notice it doesn't say that they include a recovery USB Key like they did (but don't seem to anymore) on the Air.

Funny that MR didn't mention i7 in the top model. Or that video out is now HDMI (with included adapter to DVI, obviously TB can be used for monitor as well but I assume that will be a tiny fraction for a long time).

Decent machine now although still a bit overpriced compared to alternatives. i7 with thunderbolt external drives makes this machine a pretty powerful one. Is 8 gigs the limit on ram? That's probably the biggest limitation keeping this from doing really demanding work now.

I'd love to see apple make the form factor a bit bigger so it could use all desktop parts and more ram slots. But apple is still obsessed with style over substance.

how is it over priced? compare to a low end dell or HP and it's OK

Finally a new mini!

I have been waiting months for the refresh so I could get one and I'm glad I waited. They dropped the Canadian price from $699 to $599!

The Mac mini is a solid base computer and the high end is really nice. Most people dont need quad cores

I agree overall; Apple has made things a little easier on my potential upgrade path (perhaps). I may not need quad cores; but would be nice to have for some of the photo stuff that I do.

Will have to look at the benchmarks of my current iMac 2.8 C2D vs the new minis; but in the end having to add a display may make the latest iMac tempting.

They killed the MacBook.

white macbook provides no benefit to us.

it is heavier than macbook air, and slower than macbook pro.

macbook air and pro have facetime camera but WBA doesn't.

we don't care if the white macbook is killed.

That new Mac mini has exactly all the same ports on the back as the previous model, with the exception that the mini DisplayPort is now a Thunderbolt port instead.

HDMI on the Mini happened last summer.

Thunderbolt Display with last generation ACD?

Question: is it possible to connect the previous generation Apple Cinema Display to the new Thunderbolt Display, via Daisy Chain? Otherwise, looks like I'll have to cell the ACD for dual monitor solution.

I mistakenly thought you knew what daisy chaining was. There is a second port on the TB device that you use to connect the next TB device to. The devices are connected to each other and only one is connected to the Mac. You only need one port on the Mac to do that.

Stop trying. I know what Daisy Chaining is. Again you're not answering the question that was answered.

Maybe English is not your native language, sorry if this sounds mean, I'll try to re-explain my question even though it's moot now :

There's only 1 port on the monitor. To daisy chain, you need 2 ports, one for input, the other for output. My question was how exactly were you to daisy chain the monitors or other TB devices without that second port.

Arn pointed out how : The monitor has a built-in cable that serves as the input port. I should have remembered that part, I owned a 24" LED ACD for a while.

Be careful, the low-end and the server models only have intel graphics. If you want the Radeon graphics it's 799$. Then you'll want the i7 option.... etc. ;)

How fast is the SSD in the new Mac Mini?

How fast is the SSD drive in the new Mac Mini release today?

Also, is the Mac Mini all aluminum now, the top does not look white, or is that just an optical illusion?

Marcus

A new model?

Can one hope and dream that there will be a new model introduced that will fill the screen-less gap of the Mac Mini and MacPro?

Dream.

Apple could put a Super Drive in a future Cinema display ...
or Apple TV (if rumors are correct) ...
and make them Super Duper drives that are Bluray R & W :)

I'm not holding my breath.

This is the same case as the previous Mac mini, so yes it's all aluminium except for the memory cover at the bottom and the back around the ports which are made of plastic.

It's the same computer rendered images as before I think. The old mini, which also was all aluminium, did not at all have that bright top in real life.
