5 years in the making...

They are the Mobility versions. That would be the HD 6570 to the HD 6850 on the desktop side. Also, they admit mobility graphics.

I'm guessing it's an underclocked 6850, since they have the same amount of texture units, shaders & render output units.

It still reaches 1.3 Tflops (single precision), tripling the peak performance in comparison to the HD 5750M.

No Mac Mini update:(
Yes I know I posted about the iMac and that I was going to get one but @ $1200 with only a 500 GB HD + A display/keyboard and mouse I don't need I will yet again wait out for the Mac Mini to replace my G4

Personally I'm loving I can opt for a track pad instead of the magic mouse. I really hate Apple mice. Yes they're iconic with the one button thing and the devout stand with Jobs, but the faux 2 button ability isn't reliable. Thanks for the option!

Hmmm... don't know where you're getting that "unreliable" bit from.

The right button on the Magic Mouse is NOT a "faux" button. It works as well as any other 2 button mouse...and gestures capability far exceed the limited functions of others as well.

I have four Magic Mice, as well as Magic Trackpads, and they both are AWESOME! Just depends on your usage, but don't call the Mice less than reliable, because they are clearly VERY reliable.

The magic pad is a nice feature for me as I've already got a magic mouse sitting unused since my upgrade to a Razr Epic gaming mouse (why yes, I need 17 buttons on my mouse, don't you?). I doubt the magic pad will be that useful, but it will be fun to try out.

I will wait for some reviews, but my decisions probably come down to SSD or no SSD and i5 or i7. Otherwise, I know what I'm getting.

I have a Magic Mouse too and i can't see myself without. It's awesome.

Hello-I need some honest advice here please. I've been waiting for about a month for the new imacs to come out...now that they are here I need to make a choice. Do I get a brand new one, or the last model refurbished? My main purpose for use is for photography, photoshop, lightroom, etc. I may also want to play Sims once in a while :)

This one is tempting to me for $1569:

Refurbished iMac 27-inch 2.93GHz Intel Quad-Core i7 processor
Originally released July 2010
27-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
4GB memory
1TB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics with 1GB memory
Built-in iSight camera

Otherwise, I am able to get a student discount on one of the new models. Just wondering mostly what the difference is for processor speed and graphics. Also, how beneficial the other upgrades to the system would be for me.
Thanks!

Hey Friend, If it were my money...Id definitely go for the new base 27".
For 30.00 more (unless the refurb is tax free ala Amazon or whatever) you get a much better CPU, and better graphics (though less VRAM), and dual thunderbolt ports..the iSight camera is also better if you care about that sorta thing. Lastly(and this would piss me off), some refurb' models can shown slight signs of use:(

Easy decision for the new one if you ask me... :)

Unlike physical mouse buttons, you can't click both at the same time, which is one thing that makes it unusable for gaming.
Also, you can't rest your fingers on the mouse because then only leftclick will work.

There are some very specific scenarios and synthetic benchmarks that will use 8 threads effectively, but very few real world users will notice any benefit from Hyperthreading. Most everyone will notice a higher clock rate and more L3 cache. It's probably more fruitful for people to decide if $200 is worth 300more Mhz and 2MB additional L3

I agree. Most user will be using ther macs to view web pages and even the quad i5 s overkill. But a few Apple users buy and use Aperture, Logic or Final Cut and for them more CPU cores will get used.

I'd even go so far as to say that if you are not using Apple's software (other than Safari) you've wasted money and should have bought a $400 PC ad installed Linux on it. I have a $400 Linux achine and it runs the web about as fast as my iMac. Maybe better, I never see "beach balls" in the Linux machine.

Gpu

Hi, can anyone compare GPU in the entry models of 2011 and 2010 versions?? thx

I'm guessing GPU performance is just under the desktop 6790 and just above the desktop 4870. Not bad but not great for 2011 either. With the ridiculous resolution the imacs have these mobile video cards are underpowered at best. It's about time Apple released a real desktop GPU in the imac. This mobility crap just isn't cutting it anymore.

I returned an imac Sat. I ordered the new one today. Thanks for the rumours. I would have been pissed if bought yesterday's bread at today's prices. It's my first Apple product. Again, thanks for the heads up

Okay so I have the 2007 iMac model (24 inch iPad 1 looking screen with silver around edge), and I saw people talking about upgrading their own macs.

Mine is out of warranty so at this point I am not even concerned with that.

is it possible to do any sort of significant upgrades to these imacs yourself?

Or are there only a couple of things you can change. Havent opened one up yet and am curious to know.

Thanks

I just called three local Apple Stores in the Seattle area and not a single one has the new iMacs in stock. Is this happening to everyone else? I really wanted to pick mine up today!

My MacPro is now 5 years. I am now thinking whether to wait for new MacPro whenever it is announced. From all the rumors it seems it'll be a big upgrade with smaller form factor and all. But i like the new 27" iMac as well. decisions, decisions...

It is the entry level for 1080p gaming. Much less the higher resolution on the 27" models.

Look at the hierarchy chart to the right...also, this also gives some good benchmarks under Windows @ 1080p

Finally

Oh God does it feel great.. I've been waiting for this update since January, was a really long wait, but I think it was worth the waiting.

Congratulations to y'all new iMac owners. :)

I called around my local stores too "Call us back tomorrow at 10am...".

I only have the Mighty Mouse and it sucks monkey balls. Have they fixed the problem with the right mouse button on the Magic Mouse? Back on the Mighty you had to lift your fingers off the left mouse button to press the right one. It made it impossible to use.

im thinking about getting the base 21.5 model for the wife. Is that gpu good enough to drive an additional monitor ? Be nice to have 2 monitor setup :)

Define gaming. I was able to play COD and Diablo II just fine with it. Hardcore gaming is another opera.

I'm not talking hardcore gaming, but shooters are a no-no and strategy games are at least "problematic".
If it works for you, great. But for me (any every Mac user I know) it doesn't.

I still think the Magic Mouse is a gazillion times better than the Mighty Mouse, but it's not for gaming.

I'll go for the Magic Trackpad + Gaming Mouse option for my next machine. At the moment, I'm switching mice for gaming that also sucks because I have to adjust the sensitivity each time.

Recently got myself a Magic Trackpad and love it so far.
