Is anyone else getting the 1603 error message about the iPhone not being able to be restored? What the hell is going on?

Its my boss's phone. Running Vista on a PC laptop.

I may have done a stupid thing, but I was stuck in that message, so I took the iPhone out of the dock and 'rebooted' the iPhone. It then said to reconnect and I had to click on Restore, but that did the trick. 15-20 min max.

I am officially "2.0 updated". Whew!

I applaude the creator of "Remote". I totally enjoy this feature! Too bad I can't control the sound on my iPhone instead of remote control. LoL, can't expect everything, eh?

I had downloaded 7.7 earlier this week, and when I got home this evening, I plugged the phone in selected Available Update and it said 2.0 available. I selected download and install. 10 Minuntes later the phone was upgraded, all of my data and settings were restored, except for my phone's screen, which is not saved by any process apparently. Phone worked great. I got VM's and text messages that were happening while the phone was upgraded.

I then proceeded to setup my work Exchange email and I am now synching my work email, which is my primary reason for doing the upgrade. It's working great!

Looks like waiting til the evening paid off.
I just got through too...@4:55pm in Vegas. 2.0 is finally loading.

5:10PM
The funny part is:
The phone IT IS activated. I am trying to make a call.

5:12PM
Call went through.
Will now move on to App store, mail, app download, etc, etc.

Download finished.

iTunes has a message:
"phone can't be synced, file can't be found"

Again, phone has been restored to my 1.1.4 settings.
2.0 software glitch. I guess.

I wonder....
When is 2.0.1 coming out????

My old iPhone rocks with 2.0! It is amazing what it'll do now. So many fine details in the settings and the Apps!

Bluetooth headset connects very quickly and is so easy to take a call- it used to take first 10- 15 seconds of the call, "hello, hello, no, now hello?"

The Airplane mode now allows WiFi to connect while blocking the phone network and EDGE. This is a great setting while traveling in places where it's exorbitant to connect to a roaming network.

It was a bit sketchy earlier, but I got my authentication out of the way but appeared to miss some connection to the iTunes Store that hung for a long time. I was, however, able to make calls and use the App Store.

I tried to imagine hundreds of thousands people trying to connect and download and authenticate both old and new phones. Seems it would be hard to set up a system to handle that spike in traffic. I would imagine lessons learned will be applied when iPhone 3.0 is released. I suggest letting us download and authenticate the night before the new phone is released, instead of at the exact same time.

The apps are great, and I've only used free ones so far.

And in spite of all the toils and turmoils of the day, the sun will rise tomorrow. I'll appreciate my iPhone more and more every day as I've done for the last year.

The download from iTunes worked for me, but it has been stuck on "Preparing iPhone software for restore" for at least an hour. Does this sound bad to anyone else?

That happened to me. I took the iPhone out of the dock and rebooted the phone. It then told me to hook back up to iTunes and it went from there.

Been a long time reader of the forums. Now I need some guidance. I am currently in Japan on a family vacation. My Iphone is obviously out of cell service here however I am using for all its other functions while I am on travel. I am downloading the 2.0 update as we speak. My question is with the Iphone not connected to the AT&T cell network will this cause a problem with the update process? I am wondering if there is a verifying of the SIM card or something that could cause the update to lock up being I am out of cell range.

i kept getting errors and "cannot connect to itunes" alerts so i just right clicked on my iphone icon in itunes and selected "sync iphone" and poof! all was well with the world :)

I'm basically in the same boat, except I am not even attempting to upgrade. I had activation problems back when I bought mine, and having removed the SIM card for now, I don't see how it can work. Maybe it does? Anyway, my conclusion was that it's best to give my iPhone a vacation as well, especially considering how many problems Apple is having getting phones activated.

10pm on the East Coast

So I waited all day (talk about resolve!) and only started my firmware upgrade to 2.0 tonight. I had iTunes 7.7 loaded yesterday but I opted to wait for the "official" firmware release today. The update downloaded in about 10 minutes and the update took about 15 minutes, but successfully loaded. I'm now watching my music and video's get reloaded. No problems thus far!:)

In DC I tried in the morning, got the 1.1.4 message thing.

Around 5:30pm EST I was able to update. Phone is working great, tried out a few apps.

Just be patient-- it will happen. Wohoo!

Nothing here in San Francisco, CA. I have been at it since 8:00 am. So...OMG... i wasted an entire day! 12 hours pressing "Check for Updates"

Everyone i know was able to do the update on their iphone, but i have an itouch. Every time i click on the "check for updates" button, it tells me 2.0 is available, but when i click "learn more" it goes into the page i'd buy it at, but then goes directly back to the "check for updates" page. after all that it gives me a message that the itunes store is currently unavailable, when it is.

What is going on?

omg i was finally able to download the freaking update! i synced my phone already and everything! :) idk but in order for me to get it i had to connect and disconnect my phone from my computer like at least 200 times. can something happen to the phone if you do that? like battery wise.

Is there any other way to get the Software Update other than through iTunes? I've been at it for 13 hours and 12 minutes! Add another 2 hours from trying last night.

push gmail?

does anyone know whether the push email function is ONLY for .me mail, or will it work for other email clients, i.e., gmail?

iPod Touch success

I haven't read all posts, but I haven't seen anybody comment on successfully updating their Touch, so I thought I'd chime in and let you know that my Touch successfully updated a couple minutes ago. Before then I had the usual errors, etc. all day long. But things seem to be working now.

P.S. Hopefully I didn't jump the gun. Right now I'm at the "Restoring iPod software" stage of the upgrade process, but everything seems to be moving smoothly. :)
