A small victory, but the "swoosh" sound is now back when sending an email!
im traveling and do not have access my backup drive. ughhh. So frustrating because I need to get work done
Erik Schwiebert, a Microsoft Mac engineer had this to say about the bug in 10.11: http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?p=29982341#p29982341I really hope this fixes the issues with Microsoft Office 2016. That whole fiasco really took the shine off the El Capitan roll out --- I'm never being an 'early adopter' to a new OS release again![]()
Hasn't fixed the Preview bugs where opening a 10kb PDF requires 650+MB of RAM and opening a 4MB PDF requires 2.4GB of RAM until the application crashes.
If I were to disable SIP will that help or avoid the issue? Thankfully, haven't yet pressed, was literally about to, as your reply came through. Ooooo-ya!
Moving up from 10.10 btw.
Ahhhh... cheers for the clarity on that. You are being misinformed. NI plugins failed because of issues with auvaltool, that's been sorted with 10.11.1 update and everything is fine. As far as incompatibilities with hardware usb devices from NI (which is what the forum deals with), that's not related to your issues, and neither is SIP. Those devices need updated drivers as a result of the rewritten usb stack in 10.11
Wow, i thought i was the only one with this issue. I have had preview using upwards of 5GB of RAM with just a few small files open.

You dared to open "a few!?" I can't go past 2 without a crash, I have't tried more than 3. It's really annoying because I use it daily and it will just freeze.

Same here. This is real annoying because I go through many PDF files. Preview was perfect under Mavericks (I don't know how it went in Yosemite, I never used that version). I've already lodged a bug report with Apple....
Is it just me who's office continues to clash?
OH GAWD! Please don't tell me that!Is it just me who's office continues to clash?
I updated to 10.11.1 earlier today (download size was something like 1.2 GB).
However, the App Store tells me now that there is a new update available again, the 6GB one. That's very confusing! What am I supposed to do to make this 'doublet' update go away? Will the updater eventually realize that I'm already running the latest version.
I also noticed that the icons are actually from Yosemite except the latest. What's wrong with Apple?

No RAID support in Disk Utility anymore, but we now have a taco icon and middle finger! Woohoo! That middle finger one will come in handy when I send Tim Cook my feedback on how I feel about Apple's priorities these days.![]()

How to reinstall Mac OS X: How to reinstall OS X using Recovery mode
You will now be able to download OS X and reinstall it on your Mac. Note that it is a large file and will take a while to download. The speed of this process is of course dependent on your broadband connection: it's unadvisable to download OS X using a non-broadband connection. You will also need your Apple ID and password to install OS X from the App Store.
Click Install Mac OS X and Continue in the OS X Utilities section of the screen to begin the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall OS X.
So what does this mean, exactly? Can we not use RAID drives any more? Or just not format them? Because that wouldn't be good. I rely on a portable 4TB miniature USB 3 bus powered RAID drive to store my Lightroom catalog and other files. It has two slim 2TB drives inside in RAID 0. Then I make weekly backups to a single 4TB desktop drive.
