The new 10.7.3 update, which incorporates a 5.1.3 Safari update, has resulted in my Safari to slow down considerably.

With only 4 tabs open, it has to reload each page again. Typing an email is slow (don't use Apple's Mail, instead, logged into Yahoo via Safari). And YouTube is simply unwatchable. Not really an update!! :(

I had the exact same thing. The whole OS was sluggish, and I when open Mail my inboxes didn't update. Then I remembered the every other Lion installation I've done and (don't hate on me... looking at you GGJstudios ;)) I repaired permissions. Everything's been gravy since then.

Also noticed that I gained some Launchpad icons after the update

Restoring my MBP from a Time Machine backup, downloading the combo update and installing that fixed my earlier problems with the CUI errors. When I update my other Macs, I will use the combo update and not bother with Software Update for this one. To the first one that suggested the combo update, thanks! :)

update = evolutionary
upgrade = hyper-evolutionary with occasional revolutionary components. [hopefully]

Learn the lingo and I've found you are disappointed less.

Well, in case you didn't know, 10.7.3 was expected to bring iCloud integration.
We are not going to wait for 10.8 to get that. Lion is supposed to provide it, and to have it in this update would have been revolutionary for me and for many people I'm sure. That's why I am disappointed at it.
Hopefully Apple fixed the Safari memory leak problem once and for all.

If your brain recalls, it may remember that the 10.7.2 update brought the first stage of iCloud integration. That was considered a Revolutionary feature for OS X by most users.

I don't know where did you learn your so called 'lingo', but I'll be nice to you and share this link, so you may learn something useful:

I have found out that is always a good idea to run Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair and Repair Permissions before installing these kind of updates.
Also, Resetting the PRAM after and update may help too.

Regarding Safari, go to Preferences -> Security, and disable "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website"

If you are having performance issues with websites that have a lot of Flash content (mainly ads), you may consider installing 'Glimmer Blocker'.

I too did the update (combo, 2011 Mac Mini I5) then repaired disc permissions, and all is well so far. I have to say that for me Safari seems smoother and maybe a little faster. Could be a placebo effect though.

Note that I was on 10.7.2, but the regular update wouldn't load. Downloaded the combo and bingo!

Don't install this update at this time!!!!!

Tis update has made my machine a complete vegetable. Machine boots, I can log in, then every program (really EVERYTHING) crashes with a CUI error.

The combo installer is supposed to be ok.

I do wonder why I hear of so many issues with Lion, yet I've had absolutely none of them. I use Lion on my Macbook Pro and it runs amazingly well.

I still have my complaints, like Mission Control sucking compared to Exposé and full screen support being broken on multiple monitors, but as far as the OS functioning correctly as designed, it has been for me.

Maybe there's some common software you are all running that causes these problems. There has to be a direct, tangible reason you have issues, since there are people like myself without them.

There is, it's the people who install 100 menubar items, modify the way the dock appears, or modifying anything in the OS. Or the people who have 100 items in their startup items, or people who download 100 extensions for safari. Or by doing a clean install but using a time machine image because the software or hack is still there. All of these things make the OS either slower, buggy, or non start-able. I'm not saying users shouldn't be able to do these things. They should have every right to make the OS work the way they want to, but they shouldn't expect apple to fix something that they have caused on their own. You just have to decide if the software is worth the hassle.

FIXED! Many thanks Amazing Iceman. That worked. Now working better than ever. For sure! :D

Does this actually fix the Active Directory issues on Lion? By that I mean, can you actually log onto a domain yet?

If so, we can finally deploy Macs again in our enterprise. Since Lion, we have been forced stopped doing so, as AD was broken, and we didn't want to go through the hassle of downgrading them to Snow Leopard, just to upgrade them again at some future point.

We spent ages getting Macs properly integrated in our enterprise, only to see Lion render it all pointless. It will be interesting to give this a test when we have time to go dig our Lion iMacs out from storage.

If I am not mistaken you can use the Lion recovery partition to do an archive and install which might resolve the issue for you.

How was it broken? We've been testing a Lion image on one of our Macs and can log into the domain just fine. It even mounts an smb share as the user's home directory and it all works like a treat.

We haven't done extensive testing, and plan to put out a call for guinea pigs soon, but so far what we've tried works.

At least one of the issues I was having seems to be resolved by the 10.7.3 update. The issue had to do with using screen sharing to a Mac that had external hard drives connected to it and a user already logged into the machine. When I would login in as the admin, switch to the logged in user and log that user out, then try to log back into the admin account, the Mac would get locked up at the password entry. I had to put the Mac to sleep by using the power button and wake it to get the lockup to clear and I could enter the admin password. If I disconnected the hard drives the problem disappeared. It made no difference what what brand of har drive or the hard drive connection. I just tried to see if 10.7.3 resolved the issue and it looks like the issue is now indeed fixed.

The other issue that I want to see if 10.7.3 resolves is not being able to wake, using Wake for Network Access, my Mac-Mini when it has been asleep for more then 2.5 hours. The only way to wake the Mac-Mini when it was asleep for more then 2.5 hours was to use the Apple remote as I don't have a keyboard or mouse connected to it.

Big problem. Safari doesn't save any log in information when I quit. It's like all cookies are wiped or something. Anyone else have this issue?

I just logged into Mac Rumors and checked remember me and then quit Safari. When I started Safari back up and then surfed to Mac Rumors again my login was remembered. Not sure why it is not working for you. Did you repair permissions after the 10.7.3 update? Maybe try resetting PRAM.

does it have to be so big?

In moments like this it really sucks to live in a place where the ISP monopoly only allows 4GB data per month ...

Have you ever heard of a wry comment? Unbelievably my comments weren't attempting to highlight your or my education, but to display disconcertment with companies tendencies towards say things to cover the lowest common denominator.

However, I'll take your comments on board to attempt to make my objectives and subjects more clear so as not to run rough shod over someone again. Thank you for that and your educational link; I couldn't see how it contradicted what I'd said but maybe it shall be come clear as I mull it over.

'Lingo' isn't a common term for you? From what region do you take your English cues, if I may?

MBP ran hot after Lion upgrade

I installed Lion the day it came out, and my MBP started running hot. Even 2 weeks after the install and I ended up downgraded back to SL.

Does anyone know if this patch fix this issue?

Thanks

I erased and installed 10.7.3 on my 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro and I had to force my machine to shut down (via holding down power button) not three minutes into the OS because System Preferences locked up hardcore. Cursor froze and everything. Behavior like this reminds me of Mac OS 9.

Generally, I notice no speed increase what-so-ever compared to 10.7.2.

I'm still not ready for it to touch my Mac Pro, which is beginning to look like will remain on 10.6.8 for the foreseeable future.

I do, for some sites (including MacRumors). But I'm currently on 10.7.2

BTW, if I install the combo update, do I need to do the iCloud setup again?

I installed the combo update and everything is fine. It will not disturb your iCloud login as it did not disturb mine. Think of the combo update as the accumulation of the 10.7-10.7.3 software updates rolled into one package only you don't go through software update to get it. Just make sure you repair permissions before and after, disconnect any external hard drives and do a time machine backup before you apply the update.
