I love the "newspeak".

  • it "resolves" issues authenticating with directory services
  • it "addresses" compatibility issues with Windows file sharing

I assume this means that Apples still have problems using Windows file servers, but it's not quite as bad as it was before the update.

But, directory services do work correctly now.

Still on Snow Leopard with my trusted MBP 2010... From the look of things, still no go for Lion, and no new Mac purchase this time... :(

I just got done with the update and things are not good. Everything crashes! I can't open anything including browsers, mail, or Time Machine!!!! Any suggestions?

Try rebooting. If that doesn't fix it, repair permissions. If not, then DL the combo update and use that. :apple:

I have not noticed any overt problems. I do wish some actions were a little more smooth and boot time improved. I have not yet experienced a crash or kernel panic... even when moving a lot of data through USB. FWIW, I started from a clean install. So far I am pleased with the update. Safari really is snappier, particularly compared to OS 10.6. Perhaps that is because flash isn't loaded.

What is the purge command? Sounds useful. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

purge is a command that can be executed from Terminal.app (type purge and enter). In short, it forces disk cache to be flushed and reclaimed as free memory. OS X is supposed to do this automatically, but in my experience using Lion from day 1, this rarely happens before OS X decides to page out from virtual memory.

If you are not a fan of running commands from Terminal.app, there are several apps that do the same on App Store, such as FreeRAM Booster.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4S: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

With the long soak time of 10.7.3, I would think that the update would be well refined.

I tihnk I'll wait a bit to see how it pans out over time.

installed the security two on my macbook pro thinking of upgrade to lion but two many bad things:eek:

Just installed the update on a 2008 macbook pro and everything went and is going as smooth as pie. :D -- Amazes me how many issues some of you are having ... BUMMER!

I swear... I'm been using Macs since 2006 starting with Tiger. I updated on day 1 for every update and every OS. Not once has that broken something. I get on the forums and it's one thing or another. I guess I've been lucky.

But people need to consider some of the start-up apps that may interfering.

Disable those apps that start automatically at reboot or log in and less people will have problems.

EDIT:

Messing with it I can say positively that my system is noticeably faster. Before, at 4GB RAM it would seem to slow down, so I installed 8GB RAM. I was expecting that to speed things up, but I didn't notice it. But after this 10.7.3 update, my system is way faster - I wonder if it's using RAM better (?).

What really agitates me is Windows 7 is running beautifully on the i5, 12GB RAM iMac. Far better than Lion ever does. It's so much better performance-wise ...

Yup, same experience here. Exact same config iMac - Lion feels sluggish. Win 7 on the other hand is a breeze to use. Boots faster, programs launch faster, even sleep/resume is faster and more reliable.

iMac updated to 10.7.3 without issues - however I am bit reluctant to update my MBP as I saw many people reporting their machines got messed up with the CUI CUI program crash errors. That's just crazy for a OS update.

The CUI issue does not happen with the Combo update.

Ok, combo update it is then - after couple of connection resets on Apple's download server it is downloading faster (8 min) than the Software update estimate of 3 hrs.

I've never had a Lion issue. I installed on day 1 (iMac, i5, Thunderbolt) and I've taken every update as soon as they drop and I haven't had a single issue. I love the multi-touch gestures and Launchpad (w/ the amazing Magic Trackpad gesture) and I can't imagine living without them at this point. I also have had no issues with programs such as Avid Pro Tools which still lacks true Lion support. Maybe I just got used to Mission Control faster, but I just don't miss Expose as much as most seem to.

Bottom line: even I'm shocked to say that I would find it miserable to have to go back to Snow Leopard after living with Lion for six months. There's plenty of room for improvement and optimization still, but Lion was no small upgrade in my book and absolutely worthwhile.

For reference, the InstallESD.dmg for 10.7.3 has the following hashes:

Not sure exactly which beefs you have but I'm with you on that. A VERY long time between updates and the VERY small list of changes to account for a 1GB download ... pretty much confirms that Apple thinks Lion's features don't suck and we're not going back to greener pastures :(.

LOL I bet 'resume on restart' is still always locked on by default; I'm not going to bother restarting into OS X to update and find out. Not until versions, mission control and resize anywhere can be turned OFF, at the very least.

Ok well that update killed my MacBook. So frustrating!!! Good thing I have a recent back up so I can return to 10.7.2.

I can't open anything with out it quitting and an error message coming up. So far I've had a lot more negative experiences then positive one!!!!!:(

You need to update using the Combo update to avoid the CUI error.

What's wrong with resize anywhere? That's the one missing thing I found retarded on past OSX versions.

Not trying to criticize. Just wondering.

Wake on lan still does not work.
iCloud in system preferences still locks up my computer

Proper mouse position does work over vnc on a dual monitor setup though.
