Actually they do. TRIM is up to the hardware manufacturer to support. If it were true that TRIM degrades the performance of certain drives, the hardware manufacturer could simply disable TRIM support for that particular SSD and the OS would respect that since it communicates with the drive in order to find out which features are available.

It's simply a dirty trick to get people to buy Apple labeled SSDs.
Here's one manufacturer that does not recommend that you enable TRIM on its SSDs. I'm not using TRIM with my OWC Sandforce SSD, although free software enablers are available, because OWC does not recommend it. Am I missing something?

I wonder if this will fix whatever the heck is making Mail freeze, killing all .app processes in the dock except Finder, but still leaving their windows open, and making the Finder go haywire all at once. ready, set, go!

Issue Too

When will they ever fix the issue of the grey woven-texture appearing on an external monitor when going full screen?

This should have been priority #1 considering how much they are promoting their Thunderbolt display.

I sort of have the same issue when iTunes is in full screen mode it removes my desktop picture and replaces it with the gray woven one. At the top by the menu bar I can still see the top of the photo. The only fix i found was to close iTunes and re-launch and it works. It's been there since day one.

Install Virtual Box from Oracle - it's FREE and works great!

PS I've not tested it with this system update yet though, will let you know when I have. :)

Just installed 10.7.4 and VB is still working great - the rest of the system seems very sloooooow though!

Thanks I will check it out!

Bug with Foreign Languages not Displaying Properly (e.g. Japanese)

I just updated to 10.7.4 and now Japanese text does not display properly.

Is anybody else having this problem with another foreign language?

This is definitely due to the update as I was using 10.7.3 until last night and this problem was not present.

I hope Apple issues a fix ASAP!

I have been having to kill the mail app a lot over the past number of months. Really frustrating. Tried to rebuild and uninstall and reinstall. No help. I noticed a big problem related to outgoing mail to godaddy. Just yesterday I edited the smtp port which was 25, 465, 587 and I use SSL. But godaddy wants to only use 465 for ssl to I change to use a custom port 465. Seems to have helped but too early to tell. Good luck.

Correlation is not causation. It could have simply been the next reboot that caused your problem, not the update. You may have gotten a corrupted font long ago, but the older version is still loaded until you reboot.

Go to Apple's forums and find out if anyone else is having this issue. If they aren't, it could be something with your system, likely a font issue.

Uh oh. Really surprised it's out the door, still seems like there are a number of issues not yet fixed.

I just hope there is a 10.7.5 (if not beyond) and this doesn't end up being the end of the line, particularly since ML drops some hardware support and sticks some machines with 10.7 (I guess for those machines sticking with 10.6.8 may be the best option although some software probably requires newer).

Is it only me who checks the "reopen windows when blabla" upon closing/restarting ?

Due to habit of "Power + Space + Enter" combo i mentioned

How about fixing the Mail issue...sometimes its takes mail a few minutes to quit when trying to log off/shut down.

My iMac is admittedly an old Core2Duo, but it was above the minimum requirements for Lion, but mail runs like crap for me. It can take 5 minutes just to load (I even once cleared out everything and it still was this way.) And I have the same issue when closing mail. I like the new design of mail, but it's so damned slow. I can log into gmail manually and check a few things out before desktop mail even loads.

I even get 10 second delays when using the volume buttons on the keyboard, so I don't know if it's mail or my machine. Cant' wait to get some new hardware this fall, but before upgrading to Lion, SL was smooth and fast and just worked great.

I doubt this is the last Lion update. SL has seen updates beyond Lion's release. Apple is actually pretty good about supporting updates on an OS for awhile. This once a year OS upgrade thing is rather new (though since Leopard none of these upgrades have been what I consider full OS upgrades, more like mini-upgrades that are evolutionary more than so revolutionary), but usually they have pretty much all the bugs out by the time they drop support and move to simply security updates.

The Exposé bug which is prevalent in new 17" MBPs seems to be fixed. I can three finger salute my trackpad and go into Exposé properly without having to log out of my account and back in.

I guess Full Screen mode for dual monitor isn't resolved

And even worse, not even any improvements in ML so far.

Probably the last update to Lion since Mountain Lion is likely debuting next month.

Apple announced "late summer" and based on the state of the betas so far that seems about right. Hopefully not the last update, there are still bugs and there are still a few months before ML is released.

Let me fix that for you:

Ah the scourge of Apple OSX's implementation of SMB

That's funny to read considering that right now I'm dealing with a new Win7 machine having trouble writing to a windows server while my mac has no problems.

When will they fix the f*cked up behavior of locking files that haven't been edited as frequently as Lion deems appropriate?

I don't remember specifics but I'm pretty sure this is tweaked in ML.

Don't be ridiculous. There have been many folks who've been running 10.7.4 for the last few months. Beta testing is over.

And none of that is any guarantee that the update won't brick anything. There are bugs found by testers that aren't fixed in .4 and it's entirely possible that there are also issues the testers didn't find.

Thanks. I rebooted and now it seems everything is working/displaying as it should. I considered rebooting before posting here but since installing 10.7.4 was done rebooting anyway, I didn't. Now I know I should reboot at least once to see if these types of problems remain. I still find it curious though why it would exhibit this behavior when I have never had a similar problem before.

I also doubt it's the last lion update, I assume there will be a 10.7.5 beta out to testers and devs by the end of this month.

Apple usually has one last update a few weeks before the next paid upgrade ships. There have been a couple times where they've had a release after the next 10.x update, I don't believe they've ever shipped more than one after that though. Security updates, sure those come out for a couple years, but I wouldn't expect another version after 10.7.5 (which will likely ship around the time of 10.8, probably a few weeks before).

Still a fair amount of bugs in 10.7 to have just about all of them fixed in a few months and one more update, but we'll see.

Hi guys, sorry for not going through the thread, but can someone please tell me if its safe to install, or are there any big issues popping up...

Yes. First of all, you're not linking to the manufacturer of the SSD. Secondly, because Apple artifically exclude non Apple labelled SSDs people have been using a a fairly hacky binary kext patch which is unsupported by Apple and may cause problems, especially after 10.7.x upgrades. Not because there is a problem with TRIM but because the patch might screw with stuff it's not supposed to screw with.

I installed with no problems.

After the update, there are improvements in a few areas that needed it, and I sense more stability.

I definitely recommend the update.
